Definitely a step up after iOS 7 - 9. It's a lot easier to listen to your music now then it was in the past few years.

My only real complaint is that the app once again ignores the sort tags you set in iTunes.

Can you double tap on the album cover to get the full album track list, like you were able to do with iOS 7 and earlier?

Are there screenshots of what the player looks like if you disable Apple Music (assuming you can disable it like you can in 8.4-9.3)?

Can someone please check if a crossfade option been added to the app anywhere? Either in Music settings or during playback?

Haven't worked out yet how to rate songs... The pop up (three dots) has options for Love and Dislike, but don't see how to get the stars for those of us who, like a more granular rating...
It has no option to rate songs yet.

Sounds like you really don't have a clue how I manage my music library or my listening habits. Let's hope someone can actually answer the question I asked rather than pushing their own point of view about what I should or should not be doing.
I use ratings a lot and a lot smart playlists are driven by this.
I feel extremely irritating when I find no method to rate on this music app. Yes new music app.
Hope they add it back, but currently I really don't want to use this music app as long as I still can use others.

So here it is, the new interface, WITH Apple Music off.

Could somebody check two things for me:

1- can you swipe the album art on the now playing screen to skip forward/backward?

2- if you add a song to a playlist that's already has it, will you be notified of the duplication?

Thanks.

It currently keeps all the For You, etc tabs at the bottom even with it disabled. It could be that they're still working on the new bolder icons so they can give us the old setup back, but that might be being hopeful.

No, and they removed the new way they did it in 9.3 too.

They still don't support the "Skip when Shuffling" again option either. I don't expect stuff like this is going to come back. :(

Thank you! I'm confused to what the 'Downloaded Music' tab links to when not using Apple Music? I assumed that would link to the actual files on your phone, but it seems Artist/Albums/Songs also covers that...?

No reason to panic about all the missing things (such as missing star ratings, and the like)

It's VERY clear and apparent that it's not a complete app we are seeing. There are things that are clickable but do nothing yet (such as tapping the red artist - album name on the player, long press on an artist/album brings up a menu but is missing a ton of options and the > next to the artist name in the menu is greyed out (when it is probably supposed to take you to that artist "page" in your library))

Was the same in the 8.4 redesign of the Music app. DP 1-2 was pretty much a half completed app.

There are at least a dozen things not in the DP 1 preview of the new Music app. I would worry if it was still the same by DP 7-8/PB 5-6, but not now when it's obvious it's barely out of Alpha stage.

"Downloaded music" only shows music downloaded on your iPhone iPad whatever. Main page shows everything, including those from Apple Music, and songs purchased but not yet downloaded to your iPhone iPad.

Actually I think the new way is going to come back. When you click on the artist-album font, the color changes. It's just not working right now. In addition, clicking on the dots for the expanded view and clicking on the artist link also doesn't work right now.

It really is funny how this feature, as well as shuffle for your entire music library, must be so difficult to implement, given that it is absent from most of the 1st betas of a new iOS.

I don't particularly like the new Music app thus far. The large font does feel out of place, in a way that it does not where it exists within News.app and Home.app (where it feels right at home ;)). The card view for Now Playing is especially silly: text is far too large, and for some reason we've gone back to an iOS 8-reminiscent, ugly shade of pink.

Everything looks a bit too bold and "filled in", and content is not put at the front and centre. The design language seems pretty at odds with the rest of the OS, and I worry it's in part because of capitulation to those who couldn't be bothered to understand the Apple Music/iOS 8.4 Music.app overhaul.

Feedback feedback feedback, people. Please don't just complain here. Not being a developer it won't be my turn until next month but you can be sure I'll be submitting tons of it when I find issues.

Though in my case it'll probably be on an iPad because I don't like running early betas on my daily driver iPhone.

I hate the size of the fonts now. I do not have an eyesight problem and I don't need all the text to be that huge and bold. Ugh. Look at that search bar too! Ugh!

The font is likely a work in progress, it seems like when you change the font settings the app does the opposite, lol. All in good time, I imagine. This is a beta after all!

I hope they tweak the podcast app to be consistent in appearance with the music app.

THIS, it doesn't take long to copy your observations complaints into a message and send it to Apple.

Kinda surprises me to see not so many complaints in this topic. If I look at many others here at MacRumors I'm being overwhelmed by the amount of people hating on the new Music app.

I'm on of those who actually like it. The biggest text should be made a bit smaller tho, but I'm pretty sure Apple could do just that. Overall it looks nice, Apple really nailed it this time. Not that I hated the previous version, by the way. But this for sure is an improvement. :)

Bad use of screen real estate, and big fonts just make the phone look cheap.
Hate the look of it. Too much white, ugly red fonts and can't hide the trash Beats radio.

It looks very tacky. The big headlines reminded me of the default style of HTML <h1> headlines. The beautiful individualised backgrounds are gone, no navigation bar as a consistent component, clunky and big buttons, different grades of translucency. It looks disgusting, absolutely just not classy.

I hate apps that flaunt the UIKit default style with a passion. Apple is so hugely hypocritical when it comes to this, they tell developers all the time that they should stick to UIKit and to the Human Interface Guidelines, because that is what customers will expect the most and provides a more consistent user experience, but they openly disregard them here and have done so for iTunes again and again. It feels like the app has been outsourced.

So here it is, the new interface, WITH Apple Music off.

The colour seems to match your albums and profile picture though. :p

For your last comment: ahahaha....;)

But for the rest, I sincerely hate the new design and prefer previous one. If Apple ever make Apple Music "non-removable" then I will stick at iOS 9 forever... This is a huge deal breaker since I use music app extremely frequently every day.

Can you sort your music with newest at the top instead of bottom?
Yeah, does anyone know whether you can sort playlists? This was a major bugbear on the Music app on iOS9.

I would add new songs to my new music playlist on iTunes on Mac, where you can then sort alphabetically (makes sense when you want to find a certain song or artist within the playlist).

But when it came to iOS, the playlist could only be sorted by oldest to newest. SO unintuitive.

Like it a lot! It's not a cluttered interface anymore (kinda reminds me of the iPod Classic). But what I don't like is that they push Apple Music on users. Apple Music is disabled in settings but I'm still seeing: 'For You', 'Discover' and 'Radio'. Give people the option to customize it just like you can change things up within iTunes (on iOS). Also the Downloaded Music tab should be the standard I don't care about music that I once bought. There is a reason why I didn't put it on my iPhone.
