Some comparative benchmarks between OS X and Windows here (French).

Performance are quite similar on the Mac Pro (even with crossfire ), but on the rMBP (geforce 750M), Windows does much better. I'm guessing it's due to the drivers, if Edwin cares to comment on this...

The GT750 Mac figures look wrong to me on OS X, it is smooth as on Max settings here so I can't say for sure but I think they made a mistake. It's a lot higher than that as I recall & the fps will go up again with the next OS update.

I have contacted Mac4Ever to see what's wrong with their MacBookPro.

Woah that was a swift reaction Edwin!
I also wonder why the game did not perform better on Windows, which supposedly enables crossfire (they have checked that it was enabled on Windows).
I'm guessing that somehow Crossfire didn't work.

Well, this is not the first game where crossfire performed like the single gpu. On a previous nMP review, there was another game that ignored it, while others gave double the performance. I'm assuming it's a combination of drivers and specific games.

Metro Last Light.

It's not always drivers, game developers have to get multi GPU support working as well.
In this case it seems like a mix of both as you said. :)

Even if I am a windows gamer, I still look at this thread. I really like this game, and happy that everyone can enjoy this game on any platform.

There are games that don't scale well with multi gpu's... and some games that play better in x-fire over sli... or the other way around. A lot of the time it's driver related. BF3 did not scale well with multi gpu setups when it first came out. Today... it's really smooth on my tri-sli setup with the current drivers. BF4 is a different story... LOL.

I don't know about x-fire game play on Tomb Raider, but Tomb Raider scales very well with SLI setups. My tri-sli 780's runs this game very smooth... and no stutters. Game runs 89 - 120 fps no problems at 5760 x 1080 in ultra settings.

I think benchmarking comparison games is silly sometimes. If the game is playable at around 60 fps on all platforms... doesn't matter what platform you use. Unless you are playing on 120hz monitors.:p

Anyhow... this game is a lot of fun to play, and glad everyone can enjoy it. I may even buy the Definitive Edition for our PS4 if it doesn't come out for the PC.:)

Nice setup! Multi screen support (on Mac) is on my todo when I have time list :)

Thanks... I prefer playing all my games in tri-surround. But some game developers don't give the option... like the Mass Effect series. But there are hacks out there to fix that like "widescreen fixer" or "flawless widescreen". Once you play in surround... you are hooked. But... I still like playing the PS4 on the big screen.:p

OMG.

Do you play Skyrim like that? If you do, I have another thing to add to my bucket list!

Time to add it to your bucket list because... you can play it in surround...:)
Skyrim tri-surround picture

I just linked the pic so this thread doesn't get hijacked with other games. Skyrim game plays well in tri-monitor surround... but Tomb Raider looks just as good and fully immersive gameplay in surround.

It's now available on steam for mac but you can't run it "missing executable" or something like that. Installs 0 kb but shows the play button.

It's isn't available on Steam, you just own the PC version already so Steam has enabled an install button but there is NOTHING to install yet. :) The Mac version will not be available until Thursday.

On,y a few days left now :)

For those not convinced to pre-order/buy the game, ready my preview and be convinced! :)

http://www.macgamestore.com/features/article-6/Tomb-Raider-Preview

This is of the Steam version, Multiplayer impressions included.

Thanks for the review. Can't wait to start the game again while still completing the current run.

Two things--
• I wish you had mentioned which Mac you're running for your review and video. Unless I missed that somewhere. I have modest expectations for my base 2013 Macbook Air even though i'm perfectly happy with how it's running on Bootcamped Windows7.
• For the video: I've only been playing very casually and sparingly since November, I'm 75% complete, and I don't think I've got so far as you are in that video (haha!). unless I've just forgotten about that portion. So I had to stop the video about a minute in because I didn't know for sure.
If it is from the final quarter of the game, maybe choose portions from just the first third or half of a game for video demos? Just a suggestion.

Will this be available on steam at midnight?

There are 24 different "midnights" per day so it's hard to me to be sure which one you mean. :)

We don't have an exact time other than Thursday, we are based in the UK so thats likely early on Thursday for the US and late night for our Australian and New Zealand players.

I will post here once it's live :)

Glad you liked the preview. As per your suggestion I went back and added my specs in at the top of the article.

Re: Videos, it is from the final portion of the game. It was the only pure combat clip I had and wanted to show that off. I actually figured it would be less spoiler-y as it doesn't show off multiple locations, cutscenes/story etc. But I will certainly keep that in mind when posting future videos!

Officially unsupported due to low CPU speed/lack of dedicated card on the MBAs but we have seen a few reports of people quite enjoying the experience on their MBAs.

I like Tomb Raider, and used to play it a lot years ago on a PC. So when I discovered that it's available for the Mac I was quite pleased. However, after downloading the demo I was a bit disappointed with the controls.

On the old PC versions, pressing the UP arrow moved Lara forwards. Pressing LEFT or RIGHT made her side-step left or right, and pressing the DOWN arrow made her walk backards. Then, pressung UP and RIGHT would make her move forwards turning to her right. There was also a roll key, that would make her to a roll/tumble turn, so she would turn 180 degrees. If you did a turn, then pressed UP, she would run towards you, but the camera would swing round to end up following her.

The Mac version is very different, and I just can't come to terms with the way it works. For example, pressing RIGHT makes her run in a right hand circle, and pressing DOWN makes her run towards you, but the camera stays where it is.

Is there any way of making the controls work like they did in the old PC versions? If not, I'm afraid it's unplayable for me.

What Tomb Raider game are you talking about? There are quite a few TR games on the Mac and PC.

I know all of the Feral versions (Anniversary, Underworld & 2013) use exactly the same controls as the PC and have the same camera behaviour.

I suspect you are comparing two different games, I recall that Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (and 6 too, if I'm not mistaken) used the original 3D engine so it was very different the way we (the players) used to control Lara.

Since Anniversary was released ~8 years ago the controls were altered for all versions (console, PC & Mac) to use the more modern standard of controlling movement in games and not the older 2D style controls that existed in the original games.

If you are used the original it takes time to get used to the Mouse look controls in the 2006 and later Tomb Raider games. The good news however is these newer games match the control system in most modern games so getting used to it will help when playing other games too.

P.s. Think of it as the controls move you based on where you are looking and your direction is controlled by where you are looking. This (once you get used to it) is easier as for example when running up a twisty path you just hold down forward and the as you move the camera to follow the path Lara also changes direction and follows where you are pointing. Hope that helps your adjustment from the old way things worked.
