NO. WAY.

The TomTom application has been a major disappointment. I should have gone with Navigon, but I trusted that TomTom would try to save face and update their software... at the very least so that it doesn't say "Pic your COUNTRY" when it lists the US States!!!

I'll prop my iPhone on my dash with some silly putty before I give TomTom any more money for this.

TomTom are having an absolute laugh if they think that is in anyway competitive or appropriately priced

What happens next june if Apple redesign the iPhone ... the cradle could be rendered useless within months ....

I was really looking forward to this product but they've blown it in every way they could have done.

I'd rather just buy a TomTom stand-alone unit than pay for that.
Another customer lost

TomTom has sent out a short press release after our story which confirms the car kit does not include the TomTom for iPhone application.

So it's about $150 for a glorified mount? It's not even a good mount, IMO, because it utilizes the bottom connector and I use that with my car's headunit.

I prefer Navigon's software regardless.

Kind of off topic but can someone tell me how the performance of the Tom Tom app (or any other GPS app) will perform differently on a 3G vs. a 3GS (other than speed, of course)?

Thanks!

Lol @ all the speculation! I've already paid for the app. And I blu tac my iPhone to my dash and it works really well! There is no way in hell I am paying £100 for a suped up cradle. That price is bloody ridiculous!!!

Way to Expensive

AS a potential customer who would of loved to have this app I am saying no way as the price is over the top! WHat are they thinking! Geesh

What a shame, I waited ages for this.

Anyway, I've just bought a mount and car charger from eBay for £5.80 (delivered 1st class too).

It doesn't include a GPS chip, but I've never had an issue with that anyway. It doesn't have a speaker either, but there are some on there that do for similar prices.

I'm sure people will jump to educate me on the build quality, features etc. but when I'm saving £95 I really just couldn't give a crap - 17 of these would have to break before I met the cost of just one TomTom mount. I'm interested in looking at the screen, not what's holding it up for me.

iPhone TomTom Launch = EPIC FAIL

Wow... I would hate to be the launch manager for this project - good luck finding a new job!

Bad launch - Way Way Over Priced and NO REAL TIME Traffic? WTF?

I will keep my AT&T Navigator thank you very much!

Useless

Not only is it outragously Expensive for what it does, but I also think that tom Tom did not think about the fact that most people uses cases on their iPhone which would make it quite difficult to use the kit if u have to take it out of the case every time.

Again TomTom stubs their toes:eek: saying app comes with mount and then retracts it. Navigon is far more superior IMO with 2 updates and more on the way before TomTom can speak (TTS)I guess you would call that baby steps while Navigon is up and walking and getting ready to run to the finish line:D

Just a side note i use the icomplete from drive safe canada and found is works awesome the fm transmitter is great for the Navigon speach

Read the bloody forum will you. You'll see a conversation I had with the Apple Store this morning. The price DOES come with both app and a map!

Read the bloody transcript you posted. Are you really so naive as to interpret that as anything other than a CSR googling an reading the web page to you?

Many people here seem to read into things what you want to beleive... All this discussion based on NOTHING of substance in 12 hours... seriously... I read it on the interent it MUST be true... A low level CSR told me in a CHAT session it MUST be true. Soon you'll Ll be insisting they honor the terms from the web page because once it mistakenly appeared on the interent you were entitled to the offer...

I just don't understand how they can even get close to that price point in terms of value / manufacturing ..

You can buy TomTom's own GPS Bluetooth module for £25 (i wish you could just pair that to iPhone and use it as i have one) which includes a Sirf III chip... then you add in the charging and audio wiring into a bit of moulded plastic and get to £100?!

What also irritates me is the maps/app price ... £59.99 for UK/Ireland and £59.99 for US/Canada!!!! How does that even work in terms of content?

How?!

Crappy Deal

I don't know why everyone is saying this is a bad deal. I think it is a great deal! You have your GPS, Phone, Internet, iPod, Email, Games, and so on all in one device. This is where the future is going! Apple needs to continue to focus developing items like the iPhone. Having a multiple function device that is actually fully featured for ALL functions is a great!

Granted there has been a lot of complaints on the App store rating the TomTom application as not a great buy. If it wasn't for this, I would order it the minute they release the Car Kit in the US. But with these negitive reviews on the application makes me a bit more stand offish. I don't need a navigation system right this minute so I can wait and see what happens.

For the poeple that are complaining about the price, I don't understand. In the US the TomTom application is $100. That means it would be $64 for the car kit which is not bad when it comes with a speaker, handsfree, and power adapter.

Note: Why is the link broken that goes to the UK store?

I now retract my previous statment, $150+ for just the car kit is crazy! The most I would be willing to pay is $99. After the $150 for the car kit and then $100 for the application, I might as well go purchase a TomTom. If the application had better reviews, then I might bite, but right now, nope, sorry TomTom.

Wow, this is going to be way too expensive. I'll just buy a Griffin WindowSeat or something. The GPS on the iPhone typically works well enough anyway...

gosh ...

can anyone double facepalm tomtom for me please?

£99  for a tom tom dock & no app. they can stick that were the sun dont shine. i wouldve paid £ 99 for the lot. its way to expensive..

£100! Rubbish rubbish rubbish. I will stick to my original TT Go and not even bother with an app for the phone at such an overblown price. TT go sc*** yourselves. Totally greedy

£100 AND no application with it... Good luck selling that turkey to anyone... you'll need it!

Not at all impressed.

I waited patiently for the TT app, and I have to say it's disappointing - ie not fit for purpose.

Had been waiting for the dock, but at this price they can forget it. I'm more likely to pursue a refund on the app then throw good money after bad.

I used to really rate TT. Not any more.

TomTom has just commited PR suicide! OUTRAGOUS PRICING! The mount should be $25-$30 at most. Its obvious that TomTom are not really commited to the iPhone platform and are simply just putting something out there to be in the game, but are really concentrating on their standalone business.
