Well, at least it says you get the TomTom app with the car kit. I wonder if they'll have a version without the app for cheaper or if it will just be the bundle.

It wouldn't make sense for them NOT to offer that. I mean, comeon....you released the app a month and a half to two PRIOR to the car kit, and then you're going to screw all those LOYAL people who bought the app when it came out?

I am sure they will offer the car kit alone, but I doubt it will be at much of a discount. It will probably be like $99

Looking forward to this arriving on the Australian store now, despite the slightly high price tag, especially if it comes with the app. I wonder how that works, I didn't realise you could sell apps through any other place but the app store.

It probably comes with a code to get the app from the app store. Like those Blu-rays with the digital copy.

Q 15. Will the app be bundled with the car kit when that becomes available?

When available, the TomTom car kit will be sold without the TomTom app. The TomTom app can only be purchased via the Apple App stores.

This is what I was thinking. WTF?

$150 or whatever for that kit and app is a decent deal, but the app has been out for months and in the top sales charts. What about all those people? Something isn't right. Either the kit is just $150 w/o app or there will be a second option. I'm thinking it's the former.

Also, note that the Navigon car kit is just a holder. No charger, no speakers, no hands-free calling, no GPS assistance. It's not really comparable other than it swivels horizontally.

It's no longer there. Anyone know why?

They are removing the note that says it comes bundled with the Tomtom app which isn't true. The price was for the cradle only....

As someone has said already, way too expensive. And Navigon is still better in performance and feature wise.

I hope Navigon decides to come out with a cradle that has a GPS in it as well, but for < 100 USD

Uff... It's already gone...

Oh no... It's gone already... I need it that thing!! :D

dock+app for £99 is okish...

i do hope tomtom sell the dock seperately for those who have purchased the tomtom app already... for around £40...

I'd buy the dock for £40 maximum. Any higher than that and I will be continuing to use the electrical tape stuck to my wheel!

IF the price above does include the app via some redemption code, then surely the most tidy way to offer it fairly to early purchasers of the app would be through an in-app purchase, offering the mount at a price point which matches the price of the package????

I think when you consider this makes your iPhone a fully fledged, and more elegant TomTom device (with a much better touch screen), which allows you to take calls hands free, play music into your car stereo, have full GPS etc, then £99 really isn't that much to ask.

Those devices separately would cost quite a bit more, and there'd be several of them, all requiring power and hanging wires etc.

I'll be getting one! :)

You can buy tom tom standalone units that come with a cradle, and can connect to your phone via bluetooth to give you hands free calling etc, traffic updates and can play your mp3s.

This is massively overpriced and if you're going to use it all the time frankly I'd just buy a standalone tom tom or Nuvi.

Updated article -- price does NOT include App

Um, so, is TomTom effing stupid??

$163 for the car kit and $99 for the app? $262 for the two together??

HAHAHAHAHA. Good luck with that TomTom.

HAHA. Good luck. If you buy it at that price for only the cradle, you're a complete sucker. I'm getting the Navigon's and that's it. I dont need an extra GPS on the cradle, the one on my iPhone works excellent.

...PS everyone send as many pics as you can tomorrow at 10am lets try and crash the system.

what a great idea. And after that, we can all call 911 and see if we can crash that system (they didn't respond as quickly as i liked when i reported that barking dog, so I want to get even). And then at 10:30 let's all flush our toilets, see if we can crash the sanitation system. I didn't like a post on this forum once, is there some way you and your playmates could do something to it all at once and bring it down, too? the rest of your post was pretty reasonable. Try to control these impulses!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C144 Safari/528.16)

Well it can stay on the shelf as far as I'm concerned. I can buy a Tom Tom for less than the app and the kit.

There is some benefit from having one device that can do it all, but not at that price. I was hoping that when the GPS companies released their apps at such high price points that people would send them that message. But since both the Tom Tom App and the Navigon app are in the top 10 grossing apps they seem to be getting enough suckers to bite...

For £99?

Either way, Bluetooth is a ball ache in this capacity in my experience, and it still lacks the elegance of the iPhone solution.
