I gave True Tone a chance for the first week I used my iPhone X. I could never get used to how yellow it made everything look, so I turned it off and will most likely leave it off.

Regardless of whether or not that's how it's "supposed" to work, my brain simply never adjusted to accept that what True Tone was showing me was the "right" colours for any given lighting situation, with the sole exception of strong, direct sunlight. In literally every other kind of lighting, True Tone made everything look awful.

I might give it another try later on down the track, but for now, it's a no-go for me.

I prefer it on. There have been cases where I have perceived that the True Tone screen was warmer than it should be. However, in those cases, I compared a white piece of paper in the same light to the True Tone white color presented on the screen, and the True Tone white has always matched the naturally lit white paper perfectly. That demonstrated to me that the True Tone color adjustment was correct in matching the white balance of my environment. I think most people are so used to the daylight white of most prior phone screens, that a transition to a True Tone display seems jarring. I don't think most people understand what True Tone's function is.

I also did this and I was actually quite surprised at how close the phone's white was to the paper. My wife's 7+ now looks horribly blue.

Off. True tone on the iPhone 8 was just fine. On my X it is tok aggresive. Do not like it at all.

On. It was a bit of an adjustment for me at first though coming from non-True Tone displays but now if I turn it off the screen seems way too harsh, and I definitely notice the difference going to my iPad Airs/iPad Mini 4. I definitely prefer the warmer display.

Tried it for a bit but I knew from using my iPad Pro I wouldn't like it. I prefer cooler tones to warmer ones.

True Tone - ON
Night Shift - OFF

I'm a photographer, very familiar with subtle colour correction and I must say I've not looked at my screen once and thought it was wrong since setting up as above.

Ahhhh I just turned it off and my eyes hurt. I think I got too used to the true tone. Will try during the day time so my eyes can adjust better

Always ON, love how it makes the screen more cold or warm depending on the lighting.

The yellow undertone puts less strain on my eyes. So I leave true tone on.

8+ I leave it on, it looks amazing. On X it’s flawed big time and is always off for me. Apple needs to look into how they’ve set it up on the new screen vs old.

I just noticed today with my x that with True Tone on, it more blue than with it off. Did I miss something here? New update?

iPhone 8+ I use it all the time, on X it looks awful so its off as I mentioned before. I just don't understand why Apple hasn't corrected it for the new screen. This is such an easy thing to do.. but I guess that's why its low priority.

I generally like it on, however I would like to option to be able to toggle it on and off quickly without going into Settings.

Is anyone aware of a terminal command that does this?
