I still cant decide whether I like it or not. I think it's easier on the eyes and I get less eye strain, but I always have a preference for a bluer toned screen. Being from a Graphic Design background we were always made aware of the importance of screen calibration. It's odd that there would be a feature which dynamically changes it depending on your surroundings. But being a phone I guess the intent is to make the whites more paper white in the majority of situations. Sometimes I find it too yellow/warm at times like it's got it wrong. At other times it seems perfect.

Using True Tone at night allows for good sleeping (fact) as opposed to white light which disrupts sleep

All iPhone XS models seem to be suffering from a poorly calibrated True Tone. It favors warm temperatures more, and isn’t sensitive to cool room temperatures from my testing
Really! All of them? You must have been busy going around the world checking everyone's iPhone and making this decision for us, maybe I was out when you popped by as I find mine is fine. I passed the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test with a perfect 0. (which is actually true) I only put that on here as somebody always has to have a reason why they know best (I don't know best) Anyway can you not make such sweeping statement no matter how many iPhone XS models you have looked at or read about as that's still a very small sample or opinion and not representative of the entire number of iPhones produced, or countries that Apple ship to. So your statement is a tad over the top. let each user decide, and if you don't like True Tone yourself. that's fine.

Did I strike a nerve that caused you to react like this? geeze lol, I did not mean to offend you like this indirectly. Keyword though, was ‘seem’. But I edited my comment with a trigger warning for your sake.

If I can encounter True Tone not working correctly in person and over the web, then it is quite common.

But I do like True Tone, I use it on my iPad and MacBook Pro, and previously on my iPhone X. But the iPhone XS isn’t properly doing its job. It’s supposed to subtly adapt to the room’s color temperature, and from my experience with different iPhone XSs in person and seeing them over the the web - it seems like all iPhone XS have this issue.

You didn't offend me at all, and my post was intentionally tongue in cheek (I think you missed that) I just found the idea of checking all iPhones in existence out a bit amusing but adding 'seems' is better except it is still stretching things as not everyone with an iPhone XS in the whole wide world world has posted about True Tone on MacRumours, so you still cant really say that but it really doesn't matter as I was being a tad facetious myself anyway. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Sorry, but I didn’t need you to make excuses for your audacious outcry.

However I can say anything, it’s my opinion. My opinion isn’t fact, statements aren’t always factual. It’s even more downplayed with the word ‘seem’. So I don’t wanna sound like a broken record, but that’s the keyword here. I shouldn’t have to explain this to you, but you seem to be getting very worked up about it, sadly.

But it’s a ridiculous mindset for you to have to think that everyone — in the entire world — needs to complain about True Tone in order to consider it a problem, as well as having to inspect every single iPhone out there to state such a claim. That’s insanely unrealistic and absurd.

On my older iPhone I’ve turned on Night Shift. It looked better at night.

On my XS Max Night Shift is off bc it‘s too yellow and it needs location service for the timezone.

True Tone is ON on my XS Max. The display looks much better and and it’s good warm. When I turn it off it‘s too bright and blue and my eyes are hurting. When I’m watching videos I sometimes turn it off bc it’s looking better then.

Jeez, calm down I'm not apologising, just explaining a little thing called humour as you seem to have lost yours. Also when someone is actually being nice to you its generally in human nature to be pleasant back, not arrogant. Have a nice day...

On.

At first I turned it off since I wanted "accurate" colours. Now I've changed my mind completely and have it permanently turned on while I enjoy a natural white balance without any blue shift, or warm shift for that matter when I'm out under a blue sky. It's just a perfect white compared to my 6s with it's glaring blue hue. I love it.

I don't mind having True tone on on my XR.

But I'm not sure about night shift. I used to always use night shift on my old 6S but on my XR it seems really yellow.

Does True tone make night shift even more yellow than it normally is? Is combining the two too much? Is that possible?

On. I know it makes colors less accurate, but I guess I don't really care. If I want to do some serious photo editing (which is not often), I guess I'll turn it off, but the rest of the time I prefer to have it on on my iPhone and MBP.

I’ve had it on since having the phone. Just turned it off to see what it was like and thought I was going to have a stroke. Just turned it back on.

Off and lower possible screen brightness is the best combo for me. True Tone too yellow and warm in my opinion.

I find myself using higher brightness when True Tone is on.

Thumbs up for battery life.

The only thing I don’t like about True Tone is when you’re in a dark room and the display’s color temperature turns yellow.

That should be Night Shift’s job. I don’t think a dark environment is a warm colored room temperature.
