Yeah last year I was shocked at so little snowfall. My driveway was plowed ONCE. Usually it's ten or twelve times at least. Not sure what to budget for that gig this season. Hedged my bet and figured half the usual amount but stuck the other 50% in savings account "just in case" a La Nina forecast isn't quite right for the Catskills. I'd prefer colder weather this time of year anyway, because it usually means it's not as cloudy. This greyness making "darkness at noon" almost a reality in the runup to the winter solstice is hard on the spirit.
Since we are close to the Pacific Ocean up here in the Seattle area, El Nina can affect us, and especially the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. And yes, cloudiness this time of year (and through about 1/2 of February) can be the pits! Plus, since we are so far north, the winter solstice, coming soon, means it gets dark around 4:15 PM! That's one reason why I wish Congress had got off "their butt" and implemented permanent Daylight Savings Time. That extra hour of sunlight does wonders! I am actually counting the days until we "spring forward" on Sunday, March 14th. That of course leads to gorgeous late setting suns in May, June, July, and August. Shoot, on the summer solstice, as long as it's nice and clear (happens most of the time), it does not get dark until around 10 PM. Such wonderful weather pumps me up! And since I am up here in "God's Country" and the absolutely beautiful surroundings, it's truly the best!
