I'm a California boy at heart, but 5+ years of being in NYC has toughened me up to where the 30s are tolerable, the 20s feel cold, but dropping down into the teens (like now) crosses firmly into my bitching threshold. :)
I was born and raised California. Living in the Midwest now. Still have some family in California. It was hilarious listening to them recently talking about how “cold” it was (40s, if I remember correctly)…while I was starting my car to warm it up for my drive to work because it was -10 with a wind chill in the -20s the other day 😂

Yikes! That's next level cold right there!
I can one-up myself on that one! Fellow Midwesterners will remember January of 2019! The wind chills here bottomed out at about -55. I like cold…but THAT was a little ridiculous 😂

This place, before the pandemic, would allow you to stay over a weekend for a fee during the winter to see what it's like in very harsh conditions. This place is in my state. They also have a railroad that will take you to the summit in the summer. They recommend bringing along a winter coat. We went there once and it was really good advice.

Mount Washington's weather is notoriously extreme. ... On January 16, 2004, the summit weather observation registered a temperature of −43.6 °F and sustained winds of 87.5 mph, resulting in a wind chill value of −102.59 °F on the mountain.

Definitely something I‘d be interested in if they ever resume it! I remember learning about Mt. Washington in a science class back when I was in school. Extreme is as good a word as any!

Yup. 4 degrees where I am. This is normal though. We've were just spoiled for a few years. We had -20 temps (real, not wind chill) a couple of years ago.
When I was a kid my family moved from Virginia to Cleveland and the temperature there fell to -12 F. I remember my damned eyelashes freezing together. :( And because we were staying at my grandfather's place, I slept in the uninsulated unheated 'sleeping porch' under an electric blanket. Actually that was kinda cool (pardon the pun) for a kid because it was like camping, but getting out of bed was brutal.

Still, I'd rather be cold than hot. It is easier to get warm than cool.

I schedule stuff like getting gasoline or going outside on warmer days.

One task I really hate when it is cold is adding air to tires. You add the air because the lower temps lower your air pressure but your fingers get numb on the valve and pump device.
Well, buy your tires from a convenient location that you can go back to and have them filled while you sit in the car with the heater on!

Woke up to 3F/-16C, second cold snap in about 4 days. Like the prior one, we'll be experiencing near 50F/10C by Monday.

Ya the winds were whipping again this morning. Looks like a miss on the next snow storm, but more wind.

Here in Geneva been below freezing but the worst is we get kind of a low stratus/fog and the accompanying humidity that chills you to the bones. Our friends in the UK know what I mean and certainly get it worse. Caused by being at the end of a lake with two mountain ranges roughly northwest (Jura) and South East (Alps).

A mere 26° in the DC suburbs right now, but it feels more like 16° due to the wind chill factor. Brrrrrrrr!!!!! Not looking forward to the messy "weather event" that is anticipated for this area on Sunday afternoon, evening and night. Thankfully this time the snow that we get will be washed away by rain so we shouldn't have any accumulation by the time this is over. I hope.....

The snow storm we have all been waiting for this winter is upon us. Maybe 3 feet for the Boston area, 10-15 inches possible for NYC. Hurricane force winds and bitter cold.

The snow has begun on boston, I'm right on the coast and so that's projected to the hardest hit, with 24+ inches.

Geez. That’s an incredible amount of snow. At least it’s on the weekend where hopefully you don’t have to drive anywhere. As long as you have a snowblower and any kids for hire for shoveling, you’re good to go! Be safe.

as you have a snowblower
I'm the snow blower, though I'm sure my kids will help. I normally try to get out there in stages to try to keep ahead of the snow, but truth be told, I don't know if that's going to be feasible, given the high wind.

Its not too bad right now, only a few inches, but the meat of the storm is coming in a few hours.

Although my goal is to move back to the south at some point, there’s something about snowstorms that are majestic, but really are impressive in terms of how fierce that can change in an instant with some visibility to white out conditions where you can’t see your hand in front of your face.

Some of my best memories as a kid, was getting snowed in, looking out the front window and thinking it was the end of the world where I couldn’t see any civilization.😁

I love the snow, I was actually planning on a camping trip up near Mount Washington in New Hampshire this weekend, but the storm changed that. I didn't want to leave my family with such a huge storm bearing down on them

When you camp, do you camp in a heated camper (Like Glamping) or are you really rustic, like in a heavily sheltered tent? Is there any specific temps/environment that you won’t camp in or it doesn’t matter?

Unheated tent, and sleeping bag. I've gone camping in temps down in close to 0 (fahrenheit) and given my sleeping system, I tend to stay warm. This weekend it would have been around -10 (fahrenheit) which I wanted to the challenge. The hardest part of camping in the winter is the morning when you have to get out of that warm cocoon of a sleeping bag and get out into the freezing temps.

I'll try to head back up there in the coming weeks, depending on my schedule.
