Well...

Got the education links sat in my email inbox, now to decide which one.

14 inch, base 8 CPU/14 CPU, 16GB RAM 1TB SSD or 14 inch, base 8 CPU/14 CPU, 32GB RAM 1TB SSD. £360 price difference.

My primary use case is photo editing. 16GB is perfect on my current Pro, but want to use this for many years to come. Is it easier to spend £360 now than have to get a whole new pro sooner than I want to in a few years. Any advice?
Well I’m in the same boat especially with UNiDAYS. I have the base 8 CPU ordered as well as the 10 Core CPU with 16gb ram and 1TB SSD. It’s around £360 more but I think having that extra power (even tho I probably won’t notice) and the 1TB SSD will come in handy along the line as I don’t intend on upgrading this mac for the next 3/4 years.

Get the best model you can afford to spend on. Don’t want to be left regretting it in a few years.

Similarly to me, this machine will be with me for the foreseeable and given its performance I’ll expect 5 years minimum out of it.. if not much more

Maxed it out. Nice Xmas present for myself. First Mac and laptop in general since my late-2011 15” MacBook Pro which I sold in 2015.
I went a few a years of not purchasing any Apple products.
this year alone I’ve purchased AirPods Pro, Apple Watch 7 & now the MacBook Pro.
Hey the PDF you attached includes lots of personal information - probably want to delete it!

I have had my M1 MBA for a year, and love it. At the time I thought, no not going to upgrade to the large screen 16" MBP with Apple Silicon when it is released as I thought I could manage on a smaller screen (I previously always bought the 15" MBP's). Even though I have largely got used to the smaller display, as Apple went through what the new M1 Pro is capable of, in particular the better Promotion display, Mag Safe back and not having to worry about dongles as well as improvements to the camera, microphones, I decided my daughter needs an upgrade - she can have my MBA and I ordered a new 16" M1 Pro 16GB 1TB, due to be delivered on the 26th.

Went in just above middle ground (ish) and bagged myself a 14" M1 Max with 24 core GPU and 32gb RAM. Compromised on storage and stuck with 512gb, hopefully I don't come to regret that but it should be fine for my usage. Needed to save a few quid somewhere, gonna be fibbing to the Mrs about how much I've spent as it is ?

Will finally be replacing my late 2013 13" mbp (i7, 8gb RAM) which is hands down the best computer I've ever owned, it's been brilliant. Seen me through so much, although it has struggled this past year. Here's hoping the new one sees me through another 8 years. The longer it lasts the less guilty I'll feel about how much I've just spent...

Delivery is quoted as 8 - 11 November, fingers crossed!

Hi guys. UK’er here. I have a 2018 Mac-mini (3ghz, 6 core i5, 16gb with a intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB) - I’m struggling to run some Final Cut Pro plug- ins which need 2mb of graphics as I only have 1536. - Am I right that the base 14 wouldn’t struggle with this task?

The base 14 would breeze through that.

Yeah, I can afford the 32GB RAM, but it's more about making a sensible purchase for me. I have decided on base chip, I don't see the extra £200 for 2 more cores as needed especially when the GPU cores are the same.

RAM needs could change without my use case changing which is what I'm concerned about

Ordered the base 14 before putting the kids to bed. Thought about it, had a bit of remorse, came down and read this….
Cancelled and reordered 10 core/32gb.

I use the M1 MBP for work and it's ace.

I'm a bit torn over which model to get for my personal machine which will replace my MBP from 2017. Swaying towards the 14 with a bump in CPU and RAM, but getting I'm getting slightly tempted by the 16.

I'm also trying to delay putting my order in. I'm going to the USA around thanksgiving so I'm trying to get a delivery slot towards the 3rd week of November. I would have thought delivery dates would have slipped by now, especially on the base model

Yeah I’m not clued up on how big a difference the 8 vs 10 core will make. I’m sure we’ll see more about it soon enough.

Agree with the ram which was my comment alluded too, I go with the ‘get what I can, not what I currently need’ moto. My workflow could change in a few years and I don’t want to be regretting it

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm coming from a 2013 13" MBP, which has served me very well. 8 years is a good run, and this thing still has life in it, but it has been feeling long in the tooth for a while. The 14" with the 32GB and the MAX 24-core GPU rang up for $2900 and it is a big jump from the price tier that the 13" was in. But it also finally feels like a real upgrade, and a real spiritual successor to the 2013 MPB, which I think was a high-water mark for Apple. I'm a sucker for architecture changes too, so it is fun to jump in on the new platform. Harkens back to my beloved early-Intel 2006 black MacBook.

Ordered within the first hour and got a November 5-10 delivery window.

I have a problem with Barclays partner finance.

I chose finance as the payment and it gave me a link to click but when I clicked it nothing opened and it timed out.

The link then didn’t work again and I haven’t had any emails from Barclays. I didn’t even get to fill out the finance form.

Has anyone else has this problem? Apple said they don’t know what is happening and to contact Barclays tomorrow.

Just create a new order and the old one will just get cancelled
