They sound like crap to me and are no where near as good as the 2018 model I’m coming from, it‘s very disappointing, and looks like I’ll be using my AirPods more often. This is definitely a case for not going so thin, sound quality always suffers when you make speakers smaller and smaller.

I‘ve just compared to my iPhone 14PM and definitely not as good. Also as am testing and ‘deciding’*between the Air and the Pro I’d compared both and would say the Air is better than the Pro. All tested playing same song on Apple Music.

It’s not a biggie for me as if just listening to music on speakers as I often do in hotel rooms on holiday I’d likely use my iPhone instead. If watching a movie then would probably have my Airpods on.

So my initial observations between the 11” Air (Starlight / white magic keyboard) and the 11” Pro (Space Black and black magic keyboard). NB upgrading from 2017 iPad Pro.

Screen: Pro is slightly warmer than the Air. I prefer the slightly narrower bezel on the Pro and definitely notice and prefer the slightly wider aspect of the Pro. You can see the difference when viewing websites as the AIr has slightly less rear estate width if that makes sense (NB picture above Pro is on full brightness but the Air is not as could not adjust whilst the software was updating).

Camera: Weirdly I think the front facing camera on the Air is much better than the Pro - the air is much sharper in fact. Not going to post pics for you to see as I have panda eyes in both from rubbing and generally look crap in both! Identical pictures using the rear camera show the difference in lenses and the TrueDepth system. Will do some more photos tomorrow when have more time to set up exactly same position etc.

Weight: I can feel a noticeable difference in the Pro being lighter. Both feel fairly heavy to me in the Magic Keyboard probably as I’ve never had this type fo keyboard case before but the Pro and M4 keyboard also feel marginally lighter.

Magic Keyboard: Blooming well love these and whilst I prefer the look of the non M4 version without the function keys I have been immediately drawn to using the function keys on the M4 Pro keyboard so that is the definite winner for me. I’ve never used before and am loving being able to type this post really fast as well as correct typos by touching the screen. Much prefer the aluminium wrist rests as feels more premium. Colour wise I much prefer the white keyboard and considered briefly this afternoon whether I should swap out the M4 keyboard for white (which would probably also mean swapping the Space Black iPad for silver) but have realised that the white would soon get marked and shabby. In fact it already did even though had barely touched (make up from fingers touching face, food). Whilst am not adverse to changing 3rd party iPad folio cases as they get cracked or grubby am clearly not going to be doing that with a £300 keyboard case.

Pencil Pro: I have the original pencil with my 2017 iPad Pro but never really found any benefit to it (and mostly can never find it). So really I ordered it expecting that I might return it but I really like and as lots of reviewers have mentioned it does feel quite intuitive to use. I like that it can attached to the iPad as version I had before didn’t. Despite not being able to stretch to a 1TB with a nano screen (or even really wanting that) I have found the brief play I had writing on the screen to work fairly well. However am going to keep as sure I will get use out of this. I kind of wish it came in Space Black though so it fitted better with the aesthetics of the Space Black IPP and black MK combo.

Colours: the Space Black is a little lighter than I hoped but I still really like it. I think the Silver and the White MK will be a fab looking combo but as stated above I think for me will get dirty too quickly and I’d absolutely hate that! The Starlight on the Air is nice though. I really wasn’t keen on the blues and purples I’ve seen on YouTube reviews so if I hadn’t caved and ordered the Pro I’d be really happy with this choice (aside from the potential dirty white case issues!) As the years go by am getting less bothered about colours on the iPhones as I usually always have solid cases on them and on this basis am less bothered about the colour given it will be living in the Magic Keyboard. That said the Starlight and white case is a stunning combo! Also much nicer with the Pencil attached to this combo.

Misc: whilst I thought I might prefer the Touch ID on the Air (because sometimes Face ID can be a pain in in the dark) I found the set up on the side sensor much more faffy than the old style touch ID. Immediately much preferring the speed and simplicity of the Face ID. Not much detectable in my use so far on speed/performance other than ‘wow’ compared to my 2017 Pro!

VERDICT - as I pretty much expected it’s the Pro for me though not necessarily for the reasons I expected. I am ’sacrificing’ cellular this time but feel that the money is better, for me, spent on the M4 Magic Keyboard which instantly feels like such an upgrade from using a 7 year old iPad with the on screen keyboard. Battery life seems much better and really hope it is as the 2017 drains really quick for me.

One last thing I just tried my Flash Magic Eraser sponge on the white MK and it lifts all the marks perfectly so watch this space. Am going into the Apple Store at the weekend to return the Air and for my husband to buy new iPhone for work so I could still be swayed to get the Silver Pro and White MK yet…………and keep it in large ziplock bag to carry around. Am basically going to spend the next few days debating the Silver and White 😂

Having a nightmare! DPD just came with the shiny iPad but EE ot DPD sent the pin to our existing iPad which doesn’t accept text messages! He’s walked away with it 😡
In a happy ending the Dpd guy came back an hour later before he left our area and we got a new pin to get it working.

We have a happy 10 year old with her early b day present.

I agree I don’t think the 2024 iPad Pro 11” sound as good as my 2018 11” iPad Pro. I’m guessing this is a consequence of making the new iPad Pros so thin, which will limit the room for speakers. It isn’t a problem for me personally as if I’m travelling I’ll have my AirPods with me and when at home I have a much better sound systems for music and TV. I do appreciate that for some people this could be a big downside though. What is surprising given is that I don’t think I’ve seen any reviews mention this despite it being pretty obvious.

Got my 13” M4 Pro delivered by O2 yesterday. Went with the 512GB model and magic keyboard from John Lewis. Got to say I am very happy with the setup so far. Using it in work today with my 15” Air in the sleeve as a backup. If I can get through a day of work on this, the Air is getting sold.

It’s an absolute beast of a machine Apple have created here. Just needs a few more tweaks to iPad OS and it’s almost perfect.

My only complaint - the silicone material on the outer sides of the Magic Keyboard. Anything would have been better. Aluminium, a nice fabric, literally anything.

Does anyone have any tips for covering that?

The Magic Keyboard just arrived this morning and early impressions it doesn’t feel great when on your lap. Very wobbly and for it to be comfortable you have to rest your hand on the left side if you aren’t typing.

The material is great and the function keys makes this a big deal. And the trackpad is certainly so much better than the previous models.

The screen of the iPad Air is super bright. And here I was thinking that I was missing out on the extra brightness by not getting the Pro.

Finished setting up my new iPad Air, and after spending a while organising the home screen (I didn’t realise how much junk I had on my old iPad that carried through with backups), I have a few thoughts:

- I really like the size. The 13 inches (among a lot of other things) is a big change from my 9.7-inch iPad Air 2. It’s gonna take me a bit of time to get used to the extra space though, I’ve got to say. I also chose to have the display scaled so that icons and text are smaller, which I generally like as I can still read everything and I feel like I have more space this way.

- The keyboard is impressive so far. It’s weighted very nicely, I think since the keyboard was designed for the 2018-2022 Pros, which are heavier than this one, so wobble is kept to a minimum and it’s fine to use on my lap. Ing is a good experience too, but there are some quirks that I need to get used to. I’m used to typing on an iMac keyboard, so some of the shortcuts etc. are different.

- Stage manager…jury’s still out. Very different to Stage Manager on an iMac, but it took me a while to get the hang of it there as well, so we’ll see.

- Touch ID is fine, no major issues there so far.

TLDR: An excellent device, but it comes with a huge learning curve considering I’m upgrading from a nine-year-old iPad.

How would that work? Genuine question as wondering about something to put over a white MK to protect but would want to be clear or white.

They are both great iPads!

I had on my lap sitting up in bed last night and thought it worked fairly well but I've never found an laptop comfortable on lap in upright sitting position to be fair. Though also I tend to lounge horizontally on the sofa or use at the kitchen table so not.

My issue with the MK is that it doesn't appear to fold right back behind the iPad like a folio case does. I presume this is because the keyboard would be exposed but I'd like to be able to use like that (e.g. when reading kindle/eBooks).

You don’t say which carrier you’re referring to - or a general comment. I’m on a pay monthly with EE and I’ve read that they don’t offer PAYG eSIM.

Anybody struggle to find cases? I tried all supermarkets. Argos one didn’t fit. Most phone shops have those cheap eBay ones mostly for 9 inch tablets. In the end I have another coming from Amazon today so 2nd time lucky hopefully. Surely people still use tablets for there to be some in retail stores?

Yeah, I’m babying mine till I can find the one that works for me, worst launch for cases I’ve seen. Feels like Apple have been very late giving manufacturers the specs this time.
