I'm definitely doing an encrypted iTunes backup after unpairing my apple watch. I want to preserve my health data and the backup of my apple watch.
App and photo/video wise I've spent the past couple of weeks strimming here and there (I've done a full photos backup separately, I'm just going to keep some key photos/videos to carry over for the curated memories features) - It's shocking how many screenshots and burst mode photos have been hogging my storage for the past year! :p

I'm ready for a 'relatively' clean start with the new Max Pro

Isn’t AC+ excess £79?

Plus time, fuel, parking etc.
AppleCare+ for iPhone is an insurance product that provides up to two years of expert technical support1 and hardware coverage,2 including up to two incidents of accidental damage, each subject to an excess fee of £25 for screen damage, or £79 for any other damage.3 In addition, you’ll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts by chat or phone. Coverage begins on your AppleCare+ purchase date.

i thought health data was all on iCloud now so no more needs to backup/restore to move it?

The new iPhone Migration tool should retain this data for you, too. These days I find that the iPhone backups won’t fit on my MBP! It only has 512GB and we have four 256GB devices in the house...

It is, I’ve set up both a phone and a watch as new in the past and kept all my health data.

Welp, having watched all the videos of the recent unboxings, I can safely say that it has confirmed that whilst I like the green a lot, I prefer the silver 11 Pro.

I've kept my SKY order for my green (due to come on Friday) but I've just ordered the same phone in silver from Virgin.
Virgin's monthly price is exactly the same (it's interest free for the actual device) but you can't buy it 'sim free' like you can with SKY so it comes with a sim which is £6 a month.

However, the data sim is on a 30 day rolling contract, so can be cancelled day one. I'll be billed £6 for a month, but the fact that Virgin are throwing in new Wireless Case Gen2 AirPods for an extra £1 a month is almost too sweet to pass up.

I've just checked and CEX will take my series 1 AirPods for £78, so that's a win too.

Delivery is 21st Sept from Virgin which actually works better for me as I have an appointment midday on Friday (which will likely be around 3 hours all in) and I'm out for breakfast for my sisters birthday in the morning, so would have been a bit touch and go with my SKY order.
Just waiting on confirmation from Virgin and once locked in I'll call SKY and cancel.

Awesome! great news! Just going to do some digging to be absolutely sure!

Yep, I'm also struggling with the iTunes backups... far too many older (existing) devices, I can only ever store the backup for the device I'm updating, it's a pain!

... had a quick look re the icloud backup/restore to new phone.... will this also carry over all my passwords (mail, wifi) and bluetooth connections without having to set them up again?

I'm generally on top of things, can't believe I've been living in the past for so long with the iTunes encrypted backup. I knew of the other methods of course, I just didn't trust them!

This thread is so quiet this year!!!!

proof of how easy the pre order process was I guess.. normally there’s people raging about mess ups and lots of deal talk.

Previously a couple of hours away would result in 4+ pages of posts to read through!
Here's an interesting fact. On the whole we're actually keeping up with the pace of last year. We hit page 120 on the 18th September 2018 (also 3 days prior to launch).

There’s always something odd about clear cases - trying my 11 cases on my XR which fits but with a stupid big camera hole. Clear cases always feel too thick (the softer ones) and sticky, or too hard and brittle. This batch seems similar. Starting with the spigen which is squishy and soft - the mojo and ringke are a little stiffer but will save those for the 11 proper on Friday

Don’t be too hard on yourself, the iPhone Migration tool only came in with 12.4. :D
given I've got a 'burner' I'm going to have to wipe it and have it ready to refund when i pick up the pro.

everything is on iCloud so should be good to go when I get the new phone. will just have to remember all the apps I need to re-download!

will have to take a copy of the reservation email and any other bits I might need

Really?? Maybe it’s been constant small posts rather than manic hours of crazy posts. Feels much slower this year

the issues of years gone by have seem to have been sorted. Apple's supply chain is reliable and they're pouring out phones.

I remember when the jet black (iPhone 6?) came out.. it was really late in the day the rumours of production problems came out... remember that that colour launched with no release day availability..

thats all gone now, not much moaning about not getting the phone you wanted anymore .(although I'm peeved apple started pre-orders for the watch straight after keynote... which I didn't watch until a few hours after! looks like i missed any titanium watch release day stock)

iCloud backs up passwords for WiFi as they are stored on keychain and syncs them across devices.

when you say mail, do you mean iCloud mail? Yes it will restore that.... don’t think it would automatically add back third party services ...google etc into mail.

Bluetooth is not synced, apart from Apple / Beats headphones using W1/W2 and H1 chips.

you have to add Apple Pay cards again too, from memory.

so when I set up my burner Xr last week, I used the migration tool.. that did the initial set up with the old phone next to the new... that did the wifi passwords etc.. at that point it asked if I wanted to restore from iCloud back up which I did.

I sync my gmail with the mail app, and I had to put my password back in again (use 2fa and it realised i was on a new device).. similar with twitter too not liking I was on a new device.

Without me trawling back through all the pages, could anyone recommend a case for me?

I’m looking for a transparent case that adds as little bulk as possible, and I don’t really like the soft ones, I like a solid case.
