I remember the iPhone 5S launch it was a total debacle, me and a mate queued for hours at Watford.. we were 4th in line and by 3am we must have been 80th.. scalpers were turning up and we actually got threatened by them!! Decided a phone wasn’t worth dying over and went to MK.. had the same issue there but we all banded together as we were sick of it.

Security just stood there. Was so annoyed it totally ruined the experience and said I’d never do it again.. I emailed Apple about it and received a call, my point was they could simply walk up the line Over night and hand out the reserved cards.... then it doesn’t matter as our phone is all reserved!! So simple and would stop it instantly..

I used to queue at Bath every year and there was never any trouble. Yeah there were scalpers but we never had any trouble with people queue jumping except for one occasion that the manager sorted out really and the security guards kicked them out of the queue

This is why I’m staying physical sim for now. It’s too new and aggro! Well unless there’s any benefits to having it??

I use it for Dual SIM. Allows me to run my personal line and a work line in tandem and not carry a second work phone.

Other than that, it’s potentially more secure than a physical SIM card because it can’t be moved from the device. Arguably, a physical SIM card with the PIN enabled is only marginally less secure with the 3x attempts before lock out.

Oh well, my order from Amazon has not been dispatched even though they confirmed everything look fine yesterday evening. System still says it will be delivered today. Anyone else being unlucky with Amazon? (fortunately for me I will have another being delivered today by Apple)

My phone wasn’t arriving until 3rd October So just got to my local Apple Retail store in Bath. No queues. The staff were setting up the queue lines for the preorders. Had a chat with the manager who knows me really well from years gone by when I used to queue overnight. He says that they have loads of stock for walk in so following a selfie with him, one of his team put me on the preorder list for an 8am pick up.

Just came on here actually to see if anyone has any news on queues from stores around the country.

My phone and watch are showing as being at their respective depots, but no time slot yet.

And thanks for everyone’s comments re screen protectors. Whilst temping to go without, I already have a new one ready to go and would end up kicking myself if the screen got even some micro scratches. So the protector will likely be going on first thing as always.

What!? I must of missed that. No emails received here. Amazon are usually good with pre orders.

Still nothing from Sky since the original confirmation emails got sent out on pre-order day. They stated the next comms would be from the courier. Still, not a great process as I'm not the only one left in the dark with delivery. As someone that has worked in telecomms and specifically digital comms, this is pretty shady. I'm Sky VIP. That's VIP for Very Irritated Person.

I'm also a grown man that is utterly jealous of everyone picking up their phone today. Adult Xmas ruined

Part of me thinks that Apple will always prioritise their own sales over any partner like Amazon, but I suppose they just want as many out as quickly possible too.

Normal,y Asians that buy as many phones as they can so they can sell them for profit. One guy queues up overnight and gradually throughout the night, his buddies turn up to join him effectively queue jumping and then they buy dozens of phones together depleting stock availability for everyone else.

They were often then seen handing them off to someone who was thought to be an organised crime member, who paid them for their time and then arranged for the phones to be resold at hugely inflated prices.

Scalpers are people who buy up as much of an item as possible and sell them at higher price

Generally hated Because they Stop genuine buyers getting the item due to it going out of stock

Like if a game has an massive sale or price glitch a scalper would buy as many as they can and sell later when price is higher

Only really hear about it in the game/collectible groups

Yeah I think it could be before 11, I've defintiely had windows as early as 08:00-09:00 I think.

Annoyingly my Apple Watch S5 is on the way any minute via DHL but it's a brick until I have a phone to pair it with!
