I remember the original iPhone too. I queued at the Apple Store in the Trafford Centre to sign up for one on launch day in November 2007. O2 only and the contracts were not cheap. Edge was rubbish so Apple introduced the 3G model within months.

The iPhone was revolutionary and started the whole smartphone thing. Who would have thought then that phones would get as far as they have. It's incredible really.

I think they gave us money off for upgrading from the first phone to the 3G model from memory. So long ago now I can’t remember exactly, this years gone on forever.

Anyone order from Argos? If so when do you expect the delivery? Got my order confirmation around 13:10. Blue 64GB. Order status page says Sit tight - we're processing your order. Email says - ‘We'll get your items on their way to arrive on from 23rd October 2020

Does anyone have any experience with cancelling online Apple orders and having the authorised amount returned to their available balance in their bank accounts?

I placed a pre-order for a friend. An hour later, they changed their mind. I spoke to a specialist on Apple's Live Chat who eventually put in a request to cancel the order. The specialist said I would not be billed/charged. It had not gone to 'Processing' yet. I checked my bank account and the deduction from my available balance had been made.

I then received an email a few hours later stating my order had been cancelled and that 'You will not be charged for this order'. I've been checking my account all evening and my available balance is still showing the amount deducted.

I need this money back urgently.

I tried finding an answer via google, the only thing I found was something from 2017 which stated it could take up to TEN DAYS for the authorisation on my debit card to expire.

That's absolutely ridiculous, and regardless of what the actual definition is, certainly feels like I've been 'charged' for the amount even if it's coming back to me in ten days. Live chat currently offline and phone lines don't open until 9am tomorrow.

Anyway, I hope it's not true and the amount is back in my account later today.

Does anyone have any experience of similar?

You've asked this question about 3 times mate and the answer is still the same, 1-7 days depending on your bank. Most pre-authorizations on cards expire fairly quick (within 1-2 days), some banks will even refund it manually if you ask them (Monzo does).

Lesson of the day is that you should not pre order for a friend unless they transfer you the money first imo

I've asked it again but specifically asked if people have dealt with Apple as it seems Apple are a law unto themselves and not the average company.

Yes I've been told it could be just a few days for a typical order cancellation with a normal company, but according to google it could be anywhere from 10-30 days if it's a cancelled order with Apple - which obviously isn't acceptable and that's why I'm asking if anyone has experience of dealing with Apple for something like this (not another company).

They did transfer me the money, it's their money they need back urgently.

It’s not going to be anywhere close to 30 days. Not even a couple days. My bets are you’ll have the money back by Tuesday at the latest. When you buy something on card it takes roughly 3 working days for money to go from pending to sent.
It only leaves your account and sits in a holding account. Once apple have cancelled it your bank won’t authorise the payment and you’ll get it back.
Last time it happened to me with Monzo I had the money back 1 hour later

Its their own fault for having buyers remorse. I don’t think there will be much you can do at this point but to just wait it out.

Fun times indeed!

I agree, I'm not expecting anything to be done but if anyone on here has had experience of cancelling a pre-order and the time it took with Apple to get their money back (as opposed to any other retailer who may act more reasonably) then at least I can pass that on.

Had a similar issue myself about 6 years ago when I returned a £1500 MacBook Pro I'd purchased online to a bricks and mortar Apple store and was told it would take up to 25 working days to get a refund to my card, ended up escalating it to one of their area managers and had the money refunded quicker plus a £100 goodwill Apple gift card.

On the note of screen protectors and cases. I swear by these: I always get the thin clear ESR case from Amazon and this year trying the screen protectors too as they fully cover the notch. I’ve had the same case for the full year and serves me well. Also very affordable got 20-30% coupons off as well atm. Check out the brand! ESR. I’ve also had the cables from them too.

I usually go for the Belkin ones to however they are very pricey and yes I know they last long and they are great but just need something a bit more affordable this year. And to be honest most screen protector brands now have an alignment frame that comes with it

Thanks for the ESR advice! Look great and with excellent reviews, bought one for the 11 Pro being handed down to the missus...

Apple Store App has been painfully slow to load for months on my phone... is it only me?

You can definitely get a 20% discount via EE with a blue light card as I got it tonight

i tried my blue light while I was doing a early upgrade but it worked work and spoke to chat and they said the codes are suitable for this device?

Upgraded two lines on my EE account at 1.20pm today, both went through had order confirmations for both.

Tonight I went on live chat to find out both orders never went through at all as EE had a technical glitch on launch causing orders to be confirmed then immediately cancelled (even if up front cost had been taken).

So anyone who has either pre-ordered or upgraded on EE be sure to contact them via live chat and double confirm your order has actually gone through.

They gave me more data as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience.

Just checked my account and showing a iPhone 12 pro as ordered and confirmed. I upgraded and got a confirmation email from ee at 1258

Think I’ll hold out on MagSafe chargers from apple until this bad boy comes out

I like the look of this, only issue is my AirPods are the original version with a wired case, I'd have to upgrade those as well to be able to charge everything together.

I remember the original iPhone too. I queued at the Apple Store in the Trafford Centre to sign up for one on launch day in November 2007. O2 only and the contracts were not cheap.

I queued at the Brent Cross Apple Store for the first iPhone. If I remember correctly it was launched at 6:02pm the 2 mins past the hour being because it was available on O2 only.
Worst thing was I knew I didn't have an O2 signal at home, but I was that desperate to get the latest Apple gadget that I brought it anyway and I could only use the phone when I was out and about. There was no WiFi calling back then... 🤣

I ordered from Apple and then cancelled. I used Barclaycard. My balance is showing as £0, but both the purchase (£1099) and refund are showing as 'pending'. I would expect it to take 2-3 days to not show as 'pending'.

As it is just an authorisation, it isn’t a case of Apple sending the money back.

You asked when the money will be back in your bank account, so I assume that you used a debit card. This is a potential issue as that can sometimes take longer than a credit card to disappear from your account. Many places recommend not using debit cards for this reason, and many forums are full of people with complaints about how long it takes.

This part is absolutely nothing to do with apple. It is down to your bank how long they hold the authorisation there.

Most likely it will take a couple of days, but if it is longer then that won’t be anything to do with apple. The fact this is an apple order is irrelevant, as is the amount of time it usually takes them to do a refund. Your previous experience with your MacBook is totally different as they needed to refund that, rather than just not use an authorisation.

For what it’s worth, I’ve cancelled apple orders at this point a couple of times and the authorisation took a couple of days to disappear, but that was on a credit card, and just because that was my experience doesn’t mean that it will be the same for someone else.

I used a 20% BLC but not with EE currently, had to call them up for whatever reason, no questions were asked about my discount code and they just applied it once order confirmed

With all due respect, if you place an order, you are in agreement to proceed with the sale or abide by the cancellation policy in the selling companies T&C’s, whether that be two days, two weeks or two months. .

if your friend has decided to pull the plug because he/she has decided they need the money back urgently then to put it bluntly, it’s tough titties, they’re going to have to wait for the refund process to complete.

imagine how hectic it must have been yesterday with everyone pre-ordering and effectively selling out stock allocation let alone with people ordering and then wanting to cancel shortly after.

Can chargeback not be used? I tend to agree with some others here and I’m not usually one to blindly defend Apple. Preorder day is the busiest day that company experiences and people ordering on a snap decision and then wanting their money back instantly causes a headache in the system. There will be a process and I’m sure it’ll be less than 30 days but can’t be expected within a hour of the request. People need to be more decisive I think and respect that this sort of purchase is a significant investment. I hope you get the money back soon but that’s life I think.
