I’m really surprised there haven’t been any pre-embargo hands on videos and etc of the new phones. I remember that for the last couple of years there are always some videos on the devices before embargo and before shipping, usually released by people working at a carrier or a phone store. Looks like we need to wait for Tuesday (the day when embargo lifts) to see first videos....
i find it ridiculous that they wait that long every year for this, like the phones been announced, just let big companies like The Verge, Bloomberg, CNET etc do the reviews, makes sense to so people are able to make a decision quicker in case they were waiting for reviews to come up and then buy and have to wait longer for delivery

I hate ukmail with a passion, brought an iPad from o2 a few years back and paid extra for evening delivery as no one was home during the day, they tried to deliver during the day and surprise no one was there to take delivery!

Yeah, idk what’s the point of an embargo on these videos. I know the reviews aren’t always 100% positive, there’s always some downsides (whether it’s battery life, or camera quality, or whatever) but even if you don’t tell people about it before they pre-order the phone, they will discover it anyway once the phone is delivered and return the phone if they don’t find those downsides acceptable. The embargo isn’t going to stop anything!

anyone know the difference in charging time between Apples fast wall charger and the standard old ones? I wasn’t fussed about getting a new charger but am now considering it.

Not interested in the MagSafe wireless one

20w should be about 50% faster than a normal 5v 2.4A charger that you may have lying around. If the Apple one really is only 5w then that’s half as slow again.

They’ll all have a curve so fastest charging <50% battery. Should get you to over 50% from flat in 30min but the second 50% will take another hour or so

Payment has been taken for my store collection one so that’s both iPhones and iPad I’ve ordered that payment has been taken. Roll on Friday!

Yes precisely, like we have a returns process for a reason, i'm sure the phone will be a huge success like every one before the 12 but longing the reviews out until 2 days before its in public hands is not ideal, most reviews come out the same day the phone is announced (OnePlus 8T, Samsung phones etc etc)

1. it’ll probably maximise pre orders just in case the feedback from reviewers isn’t positive.
2. it’ll give reviewers time to actually use the device instead of trying to be the first to get a review out which can usually lead to poor reviews
3. If there are issues reviewers can report them to Apple and Apple then has time to figure out what to do.

That’s my thoughts anyway.

It’s a good deal to me 200gb is a huge amount of data, it also includes Apple Music which I used to pay £9.99 a month for so it is really £15.01 a month for the phone contract side.

Yep, I also paid £9.99 for Apple Music separately, so it works out a pretty good deal for me too.

Plus as others have said it’s a “Smart benefit” for the duration of the contract, not just free for 6 months.

i can agree on point 1 and 2 but this is why some reviewers get the device given to them the day its announced, and Apple could simply says once pre-orders are open then on saturday/sunday you can post your review, i want to see the device but letting good morning america do a 2 min segment isn't ideal. Post a hand's on video or something

This is my speed from home on EE tested just now

Don’t disagree, I just think those are three reasons they won’t allow it. It’s common for companies to not release embargo’s till just before products are released. I don’t think companies see an upside from letting reviews being released. People that want to preorder will and those that are happy to wait will.

Another point is most of us on here follow Apple news all year round and most the world just hear the news. Apple make a big announcement and that will create media posts for a few days. Then pre orders go live and that’s another few days of posts and finally the reviews will go out and generate some more.

EE total shambles in my opinion this year. I placed an order yesterday for expected delivery on 23rd Oct. Received email few minutes later confirming order placed. Funnily i decided to ring them tonight to check if the order had been processed and i was told by their digital sales team they can confirm order was not processed (god knows for whatever reason she couldnt tell me). Went and placed new order on same terms but now delivery date is with in 14 days. I was bloody fuming total joke. Now my new order is tracking but i am disappointed.I would strongly advise if you had placed order via EE online ring them and confirm.

“Upgraded” my EE contract yesterday.

Was on 60GB with one smart benefit for £27 a month. Initially upgraded to 100GB for £20 (no smart benefit) and then today, went for 200GB with a smart benefit for £25, but with 20% discount making it 20%.

All done online. Perhaps I could have gotten a little more through the Live Chat but I just feel fortunate I was able to do anything at all. I was under contract for the 60GB plan but, for some reason, the app allowed me to “upgrade” anyway, despite the new plan being cheaper.

I’m currently a dedicated Spotify user but have chosen Apple Music as my Smart Benefit. The others don’t appeal to me. I suppose the £10 a month saving offsets the cost of the contract so £10 a month for 200GB 5G isn’t bad at all.

Now to start the arduous process of moving all my playlists from Spotify to Apple Music. And to think - until last week you could automate it!

i think this is a pretty solid response, at the end of the day we will be buying the product (unless there is nothing attractive about it anymore)
