I see no difference either, that's kinda my point. So no limit for the Watch should mean no limit for the iPhone.

Weren't there folks who had issues paying with Apple Pay for their Pro Max pre-orders, and their banks told them it was because of the value of the transaction being >£1k? Maybe that's only for 'card'holder not present transactions though? I'm genuinely interested to find out for certain what the limits are!
I'm one of those whose Apple Pay went through then got the 'Problem with your payment' email.

My bank told me it's because I had registered a phone number to Apple Pay on set up but that they didn't have a phone number for me on the system (not sure why). Apparently the mismatch caused the block.

Did you get the refund first and then pay off Barclays?

I am wondering what order to do everything in.
I’d just pay off your agreement now and then start your apple care refund. As i think the refund can take a few weeks to go back to Barclays. If your agreement goes into credit Barclays will contact you to issue you the refund back into your account. Or you can wait until the refund from apple is taken off your finance.

Same, came in an enormous box. Probably the default packaging size and like the product image they hadnt fully updated the product information to ensure it got a more sensible box.
Maybe they're just covering their backs incase the drivers trash/crush the parcel that way nothing gets damaged, not surprised though I've had some stuff from amazon come in huge boxes for a tiny item and other times no box at all for large items (ruins christmas presents when that happens) or a box only just bigger than the item itself, seems to depend on the packers mood and whether they give a s***.

I feel sorry for everyone who on here are getting their phones delivered by Hermes. Just found out Hermes driver marked the parcel as delivered and took it with him. Caught all on CCTV. Luckily it was only a Guess Who board game.

Sorry to be that guy. We have already brought enough of annoyances on game consoles and such. Don’t want to be that guy bringing this thread to another level as of legal advise thread.

If this is the case and no CCTV record, how will one claim as Hermes fault? Raise to Hermes and subsequently the seller such as Apple/Currys etc.?

Hermes is bad news. I haven’t encountered that stealing case yet but they always note as delivered on first attempt fail and delivered in second attempt.

Actually it’s set by the retailers. Asda have a Max of £45 for Apple Pay, had to phone my mrs who was sat in the car to come and pay as I didn’t have my card with me 😂
Where it gets even more confusing is, that some stores to not have that limit, for example my local Asda in Watford does have any limit on Apple Pay, but the one in Hemel Hempsted which is about 5 miles up the road does have the £45 limit, this is mainly because the card payment machines have not been updated to the latest software or using old PDQ machines.

So after seeing people post here. I went ahead and bought an EE student discount code for 99p on eBay and then went on live chat and they said they can’t add it on my account yet but they can add it once the order has been dispatched.

the person I spoke to took the code from me and said she will personally add it to my account next week.

This means I have a total of 30% discount thanks to posters in this thread.

Anyone else on EE, make sure you go buy the 20% discount code and get yourself on live chat!!

Surely using that code isn’t ethically right. I don’t think people should be abusing the system.

Card payment terminals operate in 2 'modes' and Apple pay supports them both:
  • Legacy contactless mode which is identical to a bank card, so has a £45 limit
  • Mobile contactless, which has no limit as it's as secure as chip + pin
It's up to the terminal (or the till) which one is supported. When apple pay was new everyone was just tapping away in legacy mode, and over time more and more terminals/tills have been upgraded to understand the difference in payment methods. Another fun thing in the mix is if a till which only knew the contactless limit was £30, but which was hooked up to a card reader which knew Apple pay was unlimited, would never turn the reader on for anything over £30.

ASDA not accepting Apple Pay is a legacy of Walmart, who had a battle with Apple to introduce their own payment system in the US. Annoyingly there's no easy way to tell until you try to buy something for above the limit.

B&M was like that. Was always £45 with them but the ones with new machines are limitless, the staff didn’t even know the £45 one had been removed until I used my watch for nearly £300 of garden furniture earlier this year.

I’m glad I found this thread because it shows a level of impatience and frustration that I enjoy with every pre-order, delivery I’ve ever had. Glad to know I’m not the only nut job out there. I’ve booked the day off to receive the phone on Friday and you best believe I’m going to be in my pyjamas in the front room looking out the window and constantly refreshing whatever courier service they give me. Plus I might attempt to call a rep or two at Apple and the courier and do their heads in. Impatience. I love it. I can’t help it...

Yeah it's so difficult explaining all this to store managers etc. I work for Barclays Business Payment Solutions (BPS), I work for the department who supplies the card payment machines to retailers.

However thankfully in the UK our payment infrastructure is way ahead of the US.

I am not sure that’s the thing for specific people like you and us. Took leave last Friday for pre-order to receive this launch day. Ordered it for missus. She shows no excitement at all and saying it will arrive when it arrives. Sounds like we really are the nut-jobs

Watching all these ‘reviews’ is just getting me even more stoked for Friday! One below clearly shows some significant upgrades on the 12 Pro Max especially in lowlight and slow motion over the 11 Pro. Not that it’s that relevant to me as I’m coming from the Samsung s8+ so the camera will be a massive upgrade regardless 😁

I’m giddy just thinking about it. I think I’ve told everyone who will listen that I’m getting mine Friday. No one else cares but I care and you shall know about it!

I phoned my girlfriend at 13:10 and excitedly told her I’d managed to get my new iPhone ordered for Friday delivery. Deathly silence on the end of the phone.
Love this. I’m excitedly updating my girlfriend on every step of the process. She has rolled her eyes at every part, it’s great. I’ve spent about 10 minutes looking at my leather cases every day since they arrived and she just looks at me and goes oh god...
She secretly loves it as much as I do I’m sure of it.
