It's not hard to unplug something if you are that paranoid, its like opening or closing a door.
Yeah that sounds logical, buy a smart speaker and just turn it on when you want to ask it to turn on my lights, in the time taken to do that I could have just turned the lights on myself. Do you not understand how absurd and ridiculous that sounds? I am actually shocked someone liked your comment, like they were in agreement this was acceptable. 😂

I am not paranoid, I have Echo devices and the original HomePod. Sometimes Alexa wont work so I will ask Siri and it works, and sometimes Siri wont work so I will ask Alexa. They are both excellent products in my opinion, I was simply discussing the concerns millions have regarding data protection and Amazon using this in ways not everyone may know about.

I have to be honest, you do seem very anti-HomePod, in itself that's not an issue, but 1) you are talking about it on a phone thread and 2) this is primarily an Apple fan base website/forum.

I’m looking to transfer my physical EE sim to a eSim. Has anyone done this and what was the process like? I know you have to pay £1.50 for them to post you a QR code. I’ve read something about when EE dispatches the eSim, the physical SIM will be disconnected? Thanks everyone!

Once your QR code arrives you need to activate it on the EE website, that's when your old physical sim will disconnect :)

The new Echo 4 Dot arrived, wow what a bargain at £28.99, placed them side by side, the Dot oozes quality and well thought out design, raised buttons for visually impaired, a visual light you can see from any angle, actual function buttons and Aux 3.5, the dust collecting cheap looking plastic top on the HomePod mini which shows fingerprints if you have the black top doesn’t exist on the dot, sound wise the dot is louder and I find it hard to compare sound difference but the mini did sound slightly tinny, at the end of the day these are cheap budget speakers so can’t expect too much, they aren’t going to win any hifi awards, the dot trounces the mini in functionality overall, the mini wins in Apple eco system integration but you are going to be very lonely and miss out on the huge wider outside world connectivity functionality that the Amazon dot offers, it really makes the mini seem archaic with no real understanding or interest in connecting with the bigger world.

Conclusion: The HomePod mini is being returned, my home is fully automated and runs flawlessly on Amazons system, I bought the HomePod to put in my motorhome hoping to benefit from linking my Apple TV’s to it but lack of any other real functionally killed it off, Amazon are King and this new bargain dot will now be a great addition.

£99 mini v £29.99 dot? The dot is an absolute steal at the current offer price!

I’ve got Homepod Mini and I will be retiring my echo devices soon. We are all on apple devices +HomeKit and prefer HP mini because

1. Seamlessly detects family members and trigger actions on their own devices/accounts
2. Ability to move media and calls in and out of HP mini by simply tapping on the top
3. Trigger Siri Shortcuts (more customisable and easier to setup than Alexa skills)
4. Intercom feature to send messages to family member devices

How long does it take for the QR code to arrive? I ordered mine yesterday online. I wished I ordered it sooner :(

After getting a call off UPS from the Netherlands 8am this morning, Then also from the Manchester depot at 9am. Manchester asked for the CCTV of the collection so they can trace the driver. They said they had no record of even a booking going ahead with who they thought was the driver who collected it. I emailed CCTV over to a Manager.

All of a sudden it’s been delivered within 6hrs. Still bit of a mystery why it’s never been scanned throughout its journey.

Apple received and all ready refunded

this was our concern we found the section on our account, interesting read, the amount of stuff it picks up outside of asking them is amazing, it picked up some conversation around some financials we were having at the kitchen table, discussing husband and wife, not husband, wife and amazon services. hence the reason for swap out, we liked Alexa for the integration, but this is promised to come to apple, and if I want to have amazon services listening into some private conversation, we might as well go to the local supermarket pull up a chair and have the family meeting there.
I have to say that as far as Apple goes (and I am more than aware of how much of our data is out there) I’d prefer it to be in Apples hands than amazons.

i hold my hands up, I’ve bought into their eco-system and I’m more than happy with that. Looking forward to trying out the Homepod Mini.

Out of interest do you know if Apple ties into your voice? I.e if I ask it for MY appointments I get mine but my other hald wouldn’t she’d get hers?
If that makes any sense?

That’s really good news. Life is too short for unnecessary stress like this. Glad it was sorted. I’m pleased to say that my problem has been resolved too.

MM just paid up full price for my X, mint condition with a screen protector and case on from the day I got it, only issue was a scratch on the rear camera. Sent on Friday and expecting payment tomorrow.

Starting to get the fear having packaged up my old 11 Pro Max to send in for Apples trade in program, used the same program to trade in my sons old iPhone against his new one the other week and it wen't through fine however dropped mine off on Monday at the local post office and checking the tracking it doesn't seem to have moved further than the local hub.

Probably panicking over nothing but it was sent Tracked 48 would have thought it would have got to the trade in partner by now:confused:

Finally tripped over the fact that my Hive products integrate with Homekit lol, got them 3 years ago and was sure it wasn't supported back then so had to use Alexa, now Hive's integrating with Homekit Alexa's getting the boot, had Alexa spots's which had chronic issues with screen flickering, maybe Amazon's got better in that department but after that I doubt it.

Admittedly Alexas got a wider range of integration but for what I need access to Homekit does the job, plus started to get frustrated with Alexa pinging up when I wasn't even looking to use it, would be on a work call and Alexa would kick in all of a sudden meaning most of the time it was set to mute defeating the purpose.

Plus I'm not saying that Apple's privacy is absolute but with Amazon & Google you're the product not the gadget, you just get the pleasure of buying something that's selling all the data they can get from you.

Now that I've got the HomePod Mini's set up and Hive integrated everything's working seamlessly :)

Its good to have an open mind or you will never know what else is going on, look, I gave it a go and thought it was pretty poor, I boxed it up to return but have an issue as I bought it from John Lewis and they do not accept returns for items that have been opened, so its in a drawer now until I get bored one day and have another play with it, quite frankly I have no use for it as I am too deep in with the Amazon Echos, plus for MY circumstances Apple HomePod system is pretty useless, I have too much other tec that will not work with it. I did buy it with an open mind to set it up in another 'zone' i.e. my motorhome to work with the Apple TV's I have in there, but the sound is pretty awful in there, I think its the soft furnishings so would need 2 if not 4 and I am not prepared to invest that much I may as well get some sound bars.

This section of the forum is quiet at the moment as most people have had their phones and gone, so its a chance to chat and pass the time while the poor sods who have been unlucky with deliveries get theirs, I'm not one to use the forum and disappear, its nice to support others. I don't know what it is with the Home Pod section of Apple but they really are struggling to comprehend what is going on in the big wide world, if you want to live in an Apple bubble and be connected then fair enough but I don't, there is too much other exciting stuff out there that Apple doesn't produce, I have loads of Apple products and in the last couple of months have invested in a few new iPads including the 12.9" 512GB Pro and the Apple Magic Keyboard, watches, phones including the 12 Pro Max, a MacBook pro and other accessories, not all for me but for my kids as well, and what is great about Apple is that things last and can be handed down, that is why we have so much stuff, from me or wife to kid to kid to kid to kid to grandma so all benefit, but I'm not blinkered I go for what fits my requirements not because it has an Apple on it, it just so happens the items I bought I felt were the best out there, but for the HomePod, no way but now I'm stuck with it in a drawer with loads of other stupid purchases, I should know better at my age but unfortunately as things are we cant really see touch and listen to the products which must be great for the sellers unless of course they accept returns after the tie has been open and used then it could be a nightmare.

I have a hue lighting system that at the moment has 63 lights indoor and outdoor, strip lights indoor and outdoor and 42 accessories such as sensors, switches e.t.c. all work flawlessly, can you imagine re programming all that into Apple HomePod, some of them do work but there are issues with having duplicate names and it would mean reconfiguring the whole lot, that is just one example of the issues I would face, never mind the CCTV, doorbells and all that jazz. I understand that my circumstances will be different to some so each to their own, I am sure there will be some people very happy with the HomePod and I wish them well 👍

I have a Hive heating system. How do I add to HomeKit?
