The new Echo 4 Dot arrived, wow what a bargain at £28.99, placed them side by side, the Dot oozes quality and well thought out design, raised buttons for visually impaired, a visual light you can see from any angle, actual function buttons and Aux 3.5, the dust collecting cheap looking plastic top on the HomePod mini which shows fingerprints if you have the black top doesn’t exist on the dot, sound wise the dot is louder and I find it hard to compare sound difference but the mini did sound slightly tinny, at the end of the day these are cheap budget speakers so can’t expect too much, they aren’t going to win any hifi awards, the dot trounces the mini in functionality overall, the mini wins in Apple eco system integration but you are going to be very lonely and miss out on the huge wider outside world connectivity functionality that the Amazon dot offers, it really makes the mini seem archaic with no real understanding or interest in connecting with the bigger world.

Conclusion: The HomePod mini is being returned, my home is fully automated and runs flawlessly on Amazons system, I bought the HomePod to put in my motorhome hoping to benefit from linking my Apple TV’s to it but lack of any other real functionally killed it off, Amazon are King and this new bargain dot will now be a great addition.

£99 mini v £29.99 dot? The dot is an absolute steal at the current offer price!
...nice review. I cancelled my HomePod Mini order yesterday as it didn’t seem worth the money when compared to the Echo.

Do you also have the Echo 4 (the non Dot version) - think it’s around £89?

Wondering if I need to get the Echo 4 as the main hub and then get a couple of Echo 4 Dots to place around the house.....

They link seamlessly to Spotify https://support.spotify.com/uk/article/alexa/

They are on a deal with Amazon at the moment at £28.99 in any colour, BUT you need to place the order through an Amazon dot, or at least tell it to buy it then it goes in your basket and complete the transaction on your computer iPad or phone, so you need to know someone that already has one. They are really brilliant and you can have 3 for the price of a mini, if you have more than one you can drop into rooms and chat to people, announce which gives out the nessage on all, and so much more, I run 15 at home, we have one in every room of various sizes and types including Sonos with Alexa integrated, it really does change the way you run your life efficiency wise and so easy to set up. There are different ones on offer just search echo on Amazon but here is the dot 4 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084DWCZXZ?tag=googhydr-21&ref=pd_sl_7r382gr2dm_e

More Echo goodies on the deal here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/b?node=22159831031

Just but a few it’s a no brainier, at least on the Echo you can mute it so it can’t hear you on the mini YOU CANNOT

if you have any questions I’m happy to help 👍

I’d trust Apples security/privacy a lot more than Amazons though!

Thanks for that 👍🏼

Only a quick question - can you have say multiple Dot 4 Echo’s without having to buy the larger Echo 4 or do you need the Echo 4 as a main ‘hub’?

You are being watched and listened to all the time, you have to go in open minded that anything could be heard, but they can do that on your phone if they really want as long as as it’s switched on, they also track you, it’s the way the world is.

Exactly! I’d trust Apple more to have this information than Amazon.

If you have an Amazon account they know everything about you and profile you, these are my orders so far this year so they know exactly what gadgets I buy 😁

I ordered one for my phone a week last Friday and it arrived Tuesday - I got a text on the Saturday to say despatched.
I have ordered another one as changing device. Ordered that on Friday and had a despatch message yesterday so hopefully be here tomorrow.

Just waiting on my wife's eSIM - ordered hers Saturday as that is when she decided she wanted a new phone - not confirmed despatched yet.

Still nothing today! Almost a week with my new 12 Pro Max and i can't use it to full capacity!

Had the dispatch text this morning! I ordered it 8 DAYS ago!

Whats most frustrating is, they can surely see im using an eSim! So i would of thought it would be common sense to stick a QR code in with the phone! If not a SIM at least (Like they said they were)

I also got a dispatch text this morning for my replacement eSim and I called them on Monday afternoon to order so it seems like they must send them out maybe once a week in batches. Might be something to do with covid safe warehouse / posting measures but still beggars belief that they cannot email this................as that would be safest and fastest method. Unless they feel email is not secure from fraud. I held off ordering a replacement eSim until I got the 12PM and was sure I was keeping as didn't want to pay EE £1.50 for nothing!! Now I am wishing I did sooner as will need to send my 11 Pro to Apple shortly for trade in for the sake of £1.50 lol.

UPDATE: just arrived in the mail. Fingers crossed @Mikey86uk you get yours in the post tomorrow.

They also know everything you say to Alexa. I can’t remember where it is in your Amazon account but you can download the history. Could make for an interesting read 😂

Just off the phone with them now, they confirmed they received it and it will be processed. The guy told me that the Apple online status tracker is pretty much useless.

Just got delivered for the replacement screen protector. And subsequently receiving Apple email confirming that they received my return faulty screen protector. I think order tracking process is haywire.

It only records what has been said after you have activated the word Alexa, and yes I have seen some funny stuff on there especially after interacting after a few drinks 😄

this was our concern we found the section on our account, interesting read, the amount of stuff it picks up outside of asking them is amazing, it picked up some conversation around some financials we were having at the kitchen table, discussing husband and wife, not husband, wife and amazon services. hence the reason for swap out, we liked Alexa for the integration, but this is promised to come to apple, and if I want to have amazon services listening into some private conversation, we might as well go to the local supermarket pull up a chair and have the family meeting there.

I always put myself in difficult situation. Apple can’t allow Spotify on smart speaker system and is quite a bummer. Same situation I had last 2 years with Apple Watch. Spotify streaming not supported. Same conundrum with homepod system. I always have to bite bullet with Echo to run Spotify. I really want to be in the whole ecosystem and it will be such a streamlined lifestyle.

Bottom line is that Apple TV must pick up better shows compared to BBC, Netflix. And speaker system must support Spotify. That way, they can count me in for Apple One service

Security matter, I don’t want to jump in that conversation. If we are really concerned, we should not even be online, using social media and such.

Forgot to mention after long winded, I also managed to get for Dot 4 via Alexa. Twilight blue. This is the Blue year

Well done, blue it is then Sir 😄

Look forward to your honest feedback, I am also looking forward to HomePod mini genuine users feedback not just sponsored ones. I just added some pics of the best and the rest to one of my earlier posts ;)

Well I have 16 now, and never had an issue, I also dont have anything to hide.

To be fair, its not really about having something to hide, its the whole privacy situation, just because I have nothing to hide it doesn't mean I am happy with them listening to me discuss personal information with the gf before bed.
It's not hard to unplug something if you are that paranoid, its like opening or closing a door.
