Some launch day pickup slots still showing at stores (particularly in london) for models that have slipped delivery dates.

Oh no, I definitely didn’t enjoy that! It seems I don’t have the best of luck with these pre-orders.

Thankfully, I managed to get mine ordered for launch day – iPhone 16 Pro Black 256GB – but I was just sitting there like a lemon, waiting for the app to let me in. When it finally did, it logged me out and wiped my pre-save, so I had to do it all over again, just like last year!

Well that sucked. I don't understand it but for me the store didn't open until about 13:08 by which time loads of people had already posted "that was easy" messages here. And I tried everything - cycling through the web site, the web site in anonymous browsing mode (in case stored cookies were an issue), the Apple Store app on my iPad (hard-closed and re-opened multiple times), the Apple Store app on my iPhone also with hard restarts multiple times and connecting through both WiFi and then mobile data in case Apple was doing some sort of IP filtering to stagger the store opening. Nothing was working until about 8 mins after others saw the store open.

When I finally did get into the store delivery for Pro Max black 256GB was already showing 25th September but luckily that didn't matter to me because I was already picking up a new watch at my nearest Apple Store and iPhone store pickup was still showing 20th September availability so I got what I wanted in the end but that was frustrating (seeing all those other "done it" posts while I still couldn't get in) and nerve wracking. I wonder what was going on that stopped me getting in

Will be DPD or DHL. It’s a coin toss.

l had one of these couriers last September for my Apple Watch and they were terrible, no tracking available. Meant having to sit near the window just in case I didn’t hear anyone at the front door.

Apple ought to take more care when selecting couriers.

interesting....desert titanium not as popular as black and natural, going by delivery dates

Order in with EE

got an error message with the discount code so had to call them… then realise I selected the wrong colour 😅 thankfully they rebuilt the order and i got a better deal overall. black 256 pro max on launch day 🥰

Man I love Sky Mobile. Always easy, credit checks are quick, can buy phone on credit with them directly without having an airtime plan (I just use a £10 SMARTY sim).

16 in Ultramarine ordered. No fuss.

But then most at this stage will be going for the Pros for that new video capture feature. 😝. Oh and new button.

Or by the poll here. I thought blue was popular last year, but Apple ditched that option.

Interesting poll in fact - medium interest in desert pro max, very low interest in desert pro (note: changing constantly :))

I stayed on the page and pre order came up at 13:02. Had the natural ready for pre order, I then changed my mind at the very last minute. I always end up getting the darkest colour.

Done too. Last year 15 mins before I got in. Today, 3 mins ish.

Difference? I didn’t refresh (kill and relaunch) the app on the phone at all since I opened it at about 12:30pm.

The other two windows (desktop browser and ipad store) I kept refreshing, and they’re still showing please wait.

Not suggesting thats the reason, but if others see the same thing then maybe its a sign.
Nice one. It's a very plausible theory - a queue that gets reset every time you hard-launch the app. I was struggling to think why I was having such issues and I think you might well be right. I certainly did a lot of hard re-launches of the app while I was waiting and when I eventually got in I was messing with another device when the app on my iPad spontaneously went to the ordering pages.

App worked amazingly well for me this year. Preapproved for 16 pro 512mb black.
Changed to collection, first slot available 08.30-08.45.
Order complete 13.03

Had Mac, iPad, iPhone and laptop all in store. Got in on iPhone 20th Delivery of 16 Pro black 512gb

Yea as others have said, now the excitement of pre-orders is done it moves on to praying to the courier gods that I get DPD not DHL.
That said, all my recent large Apple purchases have been DHL :(

The other theory i have is that I opened it very early on my iphone but much later on the others. Maybe a secret “queue“ is started then? Others saying they did refresh and then got in - maybe its when you first join (cookie?)

I wonder whether it’s because most people put a case on anyway and it’s harder to colour match the gold to different coloured cases. Much easier with the other colours. Either that or they made more of that colour expecting the demand to be higher.

I managed to get a Natural Titanium 256GB, with clear case.

Case arrives next week.

iPhone 25th - 30th September.

Interesting that Apple tells people to wait on the page, when it’s quicker to quit the app and re-launch.
Browser on my Mac is still in the queue!
More devices is defo the way to go!
I stayed on the page on my iPhone whilst simultaneously refreshing on the MacBook; both loaded at 13:02.

I can say this isn't true — I got through first on my iMac when I kept refreshing the browser. My iPhone and iPad had the apps open and the iPhone didn't get through until I'd already completed my order on the iMac. The iPad app didn't get through at all before I closed it after placing the order.
