I am seriously considering taking the hit financially in the short term to move to EE just need to try and justify it a bit more inside my head before making a decision, the apple watch is also very tempting but unsure I would ever need/use/want the LTE version.
That's what I did, had to pay to get out my three deal but it was made easier for me in that three signal was rubbish here and EE was always perfect

I am actually pretty lucky on every network where I live I get 4G with a very strong signal. I would need to find an extra £350 to actually buy out Vodafone completely so I can go sim only with EE and get the iPhone 10 through Apple.

oh that's a lot, I was sim free before so I just paid the remaining months of 17/m + 20% discount so didn't work out too bad. Presumably yours is with a phone though so you could sell that to recoup some money when you get the 10? Or trade it in?

FWIW, to me, that's a completely uneconomical move to make.

£350 to change over? I wouldn't bother personally.

If you've got that £350 sitting around, what about just benching it in a pot for next year's phone?

I have the money to upgrade on Vodafone come Nov 3rd with their flexi-update which would mean entering a brand new contract for 24 months again and just looking at other options really.

It's not a problem finding the extra money it's justifying the need to actually do it just so I am no longer in any 24 month contracts with networks.

In the short term it would cost more but afterwards the cost of IUP or 0% CC + Sim free should work out cheaper than having a contract with networks again

The common sense approach would be to upgrade with Vodafone, keep the iPhone 10 for 12 months then save up in the meantime to get enough money to pay out the contract with the value of the iPhone 10 then go IUP + sim free.

That much is a lot to get out of a contract but I also wouldn't go back to being tied into anything now, even a 12 month sim only is a bit too much for me. So if you can justify it to yourself and have the money then I can only recommend being sim free, at least for someone like me who likes to change phones every year and allows me to put money aside, plus trade in my previous unlocked phone, so my yearly costs to change are not that great, after the initial hit of buying the first handset.

He's now on delivery number 30 apparently (I'm number 39)...

He's doing delivery 34 now!

I completely agree and I'm SIM Free myself.

My point was more that £350 is still a lot to chuck away, when @daleski75 could just carry on with the contract, see it out and then go SIM Free (so extra cost to change over).

It's not like it's a now or never situation is it?

That would be the captain sensible approach but my OnePlus 5 is doing my nut in with random reboots, lock ups, severe battery drain even after multiple resets so unsure how much longer I want to keep this thing for.

Sold my S8 which I got on contract with Vodafone but could not live with the dire performance so I am my own worst enemy when it comes to phones/contracts/stupidity!

Not quite the same but years ago I had to pay O2 about £150 to upgrade early (it was probably to the iPhone 4 and had to balance of remaining line rental on an 18 month contract - can't exactly remember the detail). Anyway they took payment over the phone credited my O2 account with the money but never applied the early upgrade charge to my account! They never took a direct debit for about 4 months whilst the 'credit' paid my monthly bill :D.

Personally I wouldn't pay £350 to buy out the contract unless I knew I could sell my existing phone for around the same amount.

The commonsense approach IMO would be to switch to a sim only deal - see what Voda will offer, check the other offers around - places like e2save and mobiles.co.uk often have great sim only deals. Then you're free to do what you want with the phone.

yup getting the AWS3 too; i will be going for the SS, but need to go into the store to try on the case & strap. Not entirely sure the 38mm would work, my 1st :apple:watch that is...

I wish this was the X delivery notification:D

Got some work expenses coming to me this month so this brings it down to £200 now just need to get them to authorize my over time and this will pay for what's left

Don't know but Paypal do 0% interest on PP Credit for 4 months, if that helps, on any purchase over £150

Anyone had any experience with Sky mobile?

Just signed up with them for the 8+ 256GB on their "switch12" plan. Explored a few options and this one was seemingly the best option for myself; £99 upfront (and a £200 discount on the handset) first 12 months @ £41 (device) + £22 (for data) then last 12 months @£31 (device) and £22 (data). But after the first 12 months you can upgrade to whatever new phone is out (hopefully IPhone "X plus") and Sky will buy back the handset at £380 (aprox)

Only problem is that their top data plan is only 10GB/month but unused data does roll over to the next month.

£380 for the buy back seems a little low?

You could get an 8+ on the iPhone payments plan. £69 up front and £44 a month. After 12 months you would be able to sell the 8+ and you’d get more than £380 for the handset I’m sure. Envirofone quote £450 for the 7+ 256 right now! After 12 months you’d have £352 left to pay and say you got £450 for the 8+, you’d still be £100 better off.

After this you’d still have the freedom to choose your carrier on a sim only plan to suite budget and data needs

Yeah, after looking through this thread and seeing the prices some are being offered for their 7+ and the som only data packages they are getting from other networks I do see that there are more optimum solutions for next time. I'm just happy to be getting a new phone (after 3 years!).

Considering this was a bit of an impulse decision and I had previously only been exposed to the typical 24 month locked in contract/upgrade cycle I think I can absorb the £100 loss and apply these learned lessons in 12 months time.

If you’re within a 14 day cooling off period could you just cancel it and change to the cheaper method?

Virgin Mobile selling iPhone 8 for £29 a month
and 256Gb for £33 a month. that's the cheapest i found
