Other UK iPhone (2017) X(Ten)/8/8+ Pre-Orders and Dispatch Thread

We are now entering the fun phase of this thread as people start to worry about orders still saying "preparing to dispatch". The pressure will slowly mount through today and tomorrow until, sometime tomorrow afternoon someone will report having spoken to Apple and being told that no deliveries will be made on Friday, and we will all have to wait until Monday for them.

Mass hysteria will then follow for an hour or so, until people start getting notifications and tracking details and everyone will calm down again. Except for two people whose tracking info does say Monday. One will be from the Scottish Highlands and the other will be somewhere random, like Hemel Hempstead, and seems to have been selected totally at random so we have someone to direct group sympathy towards.

That's how it always used to work anyway. This is my first release day order for a few years, so I haven't followed this thread for the last couple of releases. Does that still happen each year?

Same here for 13-20

Just got off a chat with an Apple Rep, pretty much stock responses but that for our date range there is a chance of the delivery time being bumped but they can't make guarantees.

Considering it says "Dispatch expected in 24hrs" and it should arrive on Friday Im getting a bit nervous. Poxy phone

Sorry if this has been covered before, but:
Can any of the UK 'Preparing for Shipment' orders for this Friday from the Apple online store already track their shipment?

I know some US orders can track their shipment with UPS by using their order reference number, but UPS might not be the carrier in the UK, or is it?

Not until Thursday. UK orders are usually despatched from Hinckley not China like the US.

I would be concerned if it doesn't show as despatched today because normally it should arrive to the EE store the day before release.

Reviews Faceid , Not used Faceid. Yeah bunch of sour grapes just looking for views. So far only the verge review has had issues outdoors and under some lighting but then iv seen many others use it fine in same situations so i guess its like TouchID, gunna have its moments.

Yeah, but Nilay of the verge was trying to unlock outside from hip level?? Surely common sense would make you lift the phone closer to your face? maybe when you are acting like a hipster you are too cool to lift the phone beyond your waistline.

I'm glad it isn't just me who noticed that. Such a Verge thing to do. Completely inept. How can you even read text from that distance?

Nilay complained that Face ID was intermittent in bright sunlight. Frankly, that it can work at all from hip-height is astonishing.

We now have man on the inside. His name is Francis. Generally a member of the board will post after just getting off a chat with him for some 11th hour reassurance. This normally opens the floodgates and triggers a series of ‘dispatched’ posts

I am sure I spoke to him on chat last month - maybe about my watch. I remember recognising his name from his thread but despite following various versions of this thread over the years I didn't know what is what that had made him a legend around here. Just seen lots of praise be Francis type references!

Just to let you know guys in regards to the banking apps...Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland which are under the same group they have updated their apps recently and Face ID will work straight away on the launch of iPhone X!

Wish TSB would follow suit since they still tend to use the same platforms after splitting from Lloyds.

Haha yeah, he was holding it at arms length. Such an odd way to use a phone, but I guess this will expose those rare and special butterflies.
