Carriers are the same every single year. Its easy to say this, but its just not worth the hassle of chasing them for an update once you've placed an order. Especially on chat, as you'll be talking to an offshore call centre agent following a script who just wants to say what you want to hear.

I fail to believe carriers don't know how many phones they're due to get on launch day though? So are they just not managing stock properly or are they over-selling because historically they know Apple under-promise and over-deliver, or even that they know stock will trickle through after launch day?

I think Apple may have given them failed quality checked stock that are functional. Why take a handful of fully saleable iPhones for review when pre orders are sky high. Units steel rims where scuffed to. I know it’s stainless steel but it doesn’t scratch that bad after 24 hours , took me good month to scuff my watch slightly

There is no way any company would effectively use cast offs as review models. Maybe display models or something (depending on the reason they failed) in a controlled environment, but not to give out to reviewers and especially not for a flagship product like this. The false negatives that could come from a reviewer having a defective product (which they would understandably conclude to be a wide spread problem) that didn't pass QC just isn't worth it. A few dozen "sellable" items being given out for review is absolutely worth the return on investment.

Anyone interested in a Safari extension that automatically hides any posts about Francis?

I'm not sure I can handle another year of the dispatch day posts... :p

He was a blessing before though...

Hope so! I'm checking far too regularly to see if my 13-20 gets bumped-up! :D
My girlfriend's order still at "Order In Progress" too - albeit that's a store pickup for Friday morning.

Please keep me posted on if the delivery gets bumped!

The carriers are so annoying. They do this every year.

I feel like the majority of the issue comes from the fact building a scalable system that can accurately handle stock is expensive.

Most of these providers are using old legacy stock and dispatch systems, so the idea of using a realtime lookup at order time just isn't feasible - and even if it was - trying to avoid race conditions in that would be a nightmare.

Apple have their own share of issues mind. A few people got the "this iPhone X is available for pickup today" message, which was actually just a translation string key bug - it was supposed to tell you that the iPhone was no longer available - but some people thought that was basically a success message and only found out later it didn't actually go through.

And come Friday morning, we're gunna have tens of people on here talking about how bad John Lewis is. Their API seems to cache for up to an hour, so it's gunna look like they have iPhone X stock for way longer than they actually do - and even placing an order with John Lewis isn't enough to actually guarantee it - no doubt a few people will have their orders cancelled because they actually didn't have enough stock.

Little worried now, if that Defect made it past QC what else has. Unless as you said they are display models, maybe it came as a result of that and not a manufacturer issue
[doublepost=1509535255][/doublepost]Anybody know any updates on Barclays and faceID support? They are usually the ones to spoil the party , took them like ages to finally allow Apple Pay

Things are always going to slip the net. At this point all we can hope is that this was a one off or perhaps the reviewer caused the damage.

Yep, inconvenience everyone for the sake of the 0.3% of the population that have an identical twin and the even tinier proportion of those who would try to maliciously access their twin’s phone. Great idea.

Plus even if you can log in to someone’s backing app you usually wouldn’t be able to set up a new payer without the online banking password etc

O2 online orders have started being updated with tracking numbers for couriers ! My 256 Silver 07.42 order has a Parceline (DPD) reference.

Has anyone's Nov 13th to 20th shipping date been bumped up and when are you expecting yours to ship with these dates? I'm hoping mine will ship early next week as Apple is usually earlier than they say.

Just to let you know guys in regards to the banking apps...Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland which are under the same group they have updated their apps recently and Face ID will work straight away on the launch of iPhone X! :D

That’s right. The only change will be an explicit request from the app to use the camera( will be the same for any app wanting to use Face ID). The app will accept Face ID as it would do finger print so there’s been minimal code changes

Not sure about the credentials of this publication but they are pretty negative about the iPhone X.

Sour grapes perhaps?

The Register prides itself on disliking Apple.

Reviews Faceid , Not used Faceid. Yeah bunch of sour grapes just looking for views. So far only the verge review has had issues outdoors and under some lighting but then iv seen many others use it fine in same situations so i guess its like TouchID, gunna have its moments.

Definitely nothing to do with the fact they were not given an X for 24hrs..... :D

If you know the register you will know they are more akin to satire than a trusted source for a tech review. I wouldn’t read it personally as I can already guess what will be in there.

Mine is still showing "Order in Progress" :(

You can't really believe early reviewers anyway. They have been given a free phone, they have to say positive things as they won't get an invite next time if they don't.

Anyone else got a "Delivers 28 Nov - 4 Dec by Standard Shipping" date? ordered at 8:05am? I got mine in the pickup from apple store and its due on 3rd, but my wife got hers delivered and got the above date!

So amazon delivered another case to an unoccupied building even though there was a clear sign stating we do not have access and for all deliveries to be made to next door.

That means most likely you are waiting for the next patch from Apple. There’s no date as EE don’t know when yours will be with you

Petty point, but you keep saying “patch” in your posts when it looks like you actually mean “batch”...

Not According to this

https://www.macrumors.com/2017/10/31/iphone-x-reserve-and-pickup/

Unlike the standard in-store pickup option offered during the checkout process on Apple's website, which requires paying upfront for the device, the Reserve and Pickup system lets customers pay for the device in store upon pickup.

Reserve and Pickup also lets customers bypass the current 5-6 weeks shipping estimate of pre-ordering with in-store pickup.

The pickup generally must be completed within a 30-minute window selected, or else the reservation may be canceled. A valid government-issued photo ID must be shown at the store, and there's a max of two reservations per customer.

I am aware of what you quoted, but, with respect, I know more than the person who wrote that article.

Out of interest, what it your experience and expertise?

@pennbank has a point as I saw a very unhappy customer get turned away without a phone after he arrived an hour late for his appointment last year...
