Does anyone else feel like the phone is too small? They could’ve at least matched the width of the 7 Plus.

Other than that I am underwhelmed and will probably downgrade to an 8. Anyone feels the device is weird?
Having had a 6 Plus for 3yrs, I think it’s great. It’s still similar enough that I could understand anyone with a 7 wouldn’t be as impressed as I am. I wouldn’t consider an 8 at all. But in the end, it’s all down to personal preference.

Yes. They have a special machine that apples it. Excellent protector.
Just take the one you have bought online back to an Apple store with the invoice, they will swap it for the one they can apply with their machine. Providing they have one in stock.

I had an Anker KARAPAX one on from Amazon and it was too thick and annoying when swiping up from the bottom so I called into Apple Belfast to check out the Belkin Ultra and it is perfect. The machine they use to fit them is brilliant and it is a great job
got the same one but not applied it (phone comes tomorrow) I'll probably be doing the same if its that thick (given its a glass one its probably the most protective).

also did you notice on the packaging for it, it says for the iPhone(r) edition!

Glad to see so many happy people! This seems to have been a good launch. For people still waiting - keep checking those 6AM reservations and good luck!

Initial observations...

The good:
  • Face ID is great and seems to be getting faster over time
  • The industrial design is exceptional
  • The interface is silky smooth
  • Animoji are good fun!
The bad:
  • The Notch is more distracting than I expected. I was a big fan of ‘embracing the notch’ but now not so much, especially after seeing how the Music app looks (which doesn’t embrace the notch and looks better)
  • Off axis colour distortion is worse than I expected. So much for Apple having sorted this out with Samsung
  • Off axis colour varies by device. Looked at a few in the Apple store and some were noticeably better than others in this regard
  • QC still disappointing - the scuffs on mine were also present on display models
By the way, has anyone else noticed that you can’t keep the now playing screen in the Music app open without the display going off? I assume this is to avoid burn in but this is VERY annoying for in-car use.

QC is disappointing...especially for a +1000 phone...Mine has fine scratches on the frame, only noticeable is some light. But there nonetheless.

Also some phones on display that i saw, the flash was not sitting flush with the rest of the lenses. Even the Apple rep was pretty alarmed by this.

JL's cover is an additional warranty.. its not a mechanism to get a broken screen fixed.. you your phone develops a fault in the 2 years, you can go back to JL and get them to fix or swap out the phone. You can't take a broken screen or back to them and get a repair. For that you'd have to go via apple (or someone else authorised/or insurance) to do so and pay full retail price. if you had Apple care, the cost of these repairs would be significantly less than for someone asking off the street and asking for the same repair.

So what's the difference between the standard 2 year warranty compared to the additional warranty you speak of?

I too am underwhelmed...I'm not expecting miracles, but after all the fanfare its a bit of damp squid

How good is it? You got a pic by any chance? Tempted to just go get one tomorrow. Really want a crisp HD finish and don’t want the screen protector to stick out as bad.

If I run finger over camera the flash is very slightly set back..... is this same for everyone else??

I think it’s fantastic, wasn’t underwhelmed at all... To me the size is perfect, speed is great, FaceID blows the TouchID on my 6 Plus out of the water, and the design is sleek.

Only thing I’d changed is theming and layout options, and that where Apple has relied on the same springboard for way too long.

For those asking about John Lewis guarantees.
They essentially just double the manufacturers guarantee on a phone. So everything your Apple warranty/guarantee offers you the John Lewis one will do the same in the second year.

Of course, whilst it's in the first year of that you could take the phone to Apple or JL whichever is easier.

And yes, the flash is set back slightly.

Well my plan for today was to try my luck at ordering a phone from John Lewis at 8a.m. I already have a phone on order with Apple, but it is in the ‘13th -20th Nov’ group. Unexpectedly, my plan of trying John Lewis changed very early this morning, when I stumbled upon posts on here just after 5.30a.m, about Argos having stock & to my surprise, I managed to order from Argos (just before 6a.m), for delivery tomorrow.

However, even after receiving my order confirmation and seeing the Argos transaction on my bank statement, something just did not feel quite right & I did not feel ready to cancel my Apple order. I know this sounds really snobby, but I just kept thinking ‘Argos?’. As a brand/company, Argos has not got that Apple or John Lewis premium feeling...and I am buying what I consider to be a premium product. Started to have doubts about what kind of service/support I would get from Argos if I ever needed it. Also, when I had been thinking about trying to get a phone from John Lewis at 8a.m, I was toying with the idea of purchasing the John Lewis Additional Support, but that idea had now gone out the window. I felt that I had been too impulsive by jumping on the Argos bandwagon so quickly.

Anyway, sat at work this afternoon & around 3p.m, I manage to take a brief break to check my personal emails & notice I have an email from Argos, advising that delivery will not now be tomorrow, but between 8th & 24th Nov!!! To be honest, instead of feeling disappointed, I was somewhat relieved - this was my chance/excuse to cancel the Argos order & just stick with my original Apple order. So I called Argos & asked to cancel (apparently I should be refunded within 5 days)...but the story does not end there...still not learning my lesson about impulsiveness, I click on the John Lewis app on my phone & it opens on the basket I had created from a wish list yesterday...and it says ‘1 in stock’! So I proceed to checkout & to my amazement, place an order for collection from John Lewis store tomorrow! Also phoned John Lewis after placing the order & placed a separate order over the phone for the additional support (£139)

Although I have far more faith in John Lewis than Argos, I have still not cancelled my Apple order. The John Lewis order is still at status ‘Processing’, but once it changes to ‘Despatched’, I will cancel the Apple order.

Hope everyone who has received their X today is happy with the phone & good luck to everyone else who is still trying to get their hands on a phone.

John Lewis order despatched at 8.15p.m - phew! Apple order now cancelled, so hopefully someone, somewhere who is expecting a 64GB Space Grey from Apple after 20th Nov, will receive a ‘bump’ up to the 13th - 20th slot.

yeah that's obvious as I've used it before as they always offer 2 years on "electricals". But you are also allowed to buy "additional warranty". What's the difference with that one compared to their standard 2 year?

Man alive. Mine says the same thing too. I.e dispatched for tomorrow. Talk about taking us on a rollercoaster. Odds are its BS... but hopes obviously raised.

Sadly I think this is most likely setting us up for more disappointment but you never know and this is certainly the closest I’ve got to an iPhone X so far.

It is a minefield as under UK Consumer law the retailer only has to pass on the manufacturer's warranty (forget the EU 'regulations, the UK has never adopted them as they are still in directive status).

if there was an issue after this 12 months then the supplier (who you bought the phone from, say Argos) would be responsible to a repair/replacement.

The problem is that you as the consumer have to prove, under law, that the fault was inherent during the warranty period and only manifested itself with the 'reasonable lifetime' of the faulty goods (Apple quote three years life expectancy for an iPhone).

that could be something difficult to prove and get Argos to accept in this scenario. If you had bought the phone from Apple directly, you would have an easier time getting them to fix it as the onus is on them as the supplier.

with the JL 2 year warranty you get piece of mind for not having to deal with such issues in the first 24 months of owning the phone.

Went to my iup appointment. When I was asked how I wanted to pay for it I asked if I could just buy it outright and trade in my old phone. Wasn't a problem and 5 minutes later I was a 7 plus lighter with a shiny new X

Gotta say face id is impressive. Takes a little bit of getting used to but it's impressively quick and having the phone just unlock with no interaction required other than tapping on a notification is neat. The phone itself feels great.

Gets bloody hot though!
