Are you going to pay outright?

They were available for outright purchase when I tried going through the normal reservation method but then went back and cancelled my IUP reservation and did it through IUP.

256 seemed to be unavailable

Update: tried again just now and nothing available for outright purchase.

Did you go in and tell them your reservation, and then ask if you could pay outright? What was their response? and how long did it take?

Yes went in and gave them my name and the guy sought confirmation that I was wanting iUP at which point I said I’d actually like to pay in full. He said “that’s not a problem, you can pay any way you like” and referred me to his colleague.

While the phone was fetched this colleague scanned my collection code and then asked why I didn’t want iUP. He seemed very surprised I didn’t even want to try and get approval but reiterated paying in full was fine. Then he started his AppleCare sales pitch comparing the price of it with the price of an out of warranty screen repair but conveniently not mentioning there’s an excess for accidental claims. He added AppleCare on to the total and said look it’s not that much when you’re paying £1000 anyway.. I told him no thanks. It was not really the experience I expected from Apple.

It took about 10 minutes but could have been five if I’d said no to AppleCare straight away.

Hopefully the employees at Lakeside had a good nights sleep and are in a good mood when I get there later

Thanks, and hopefully I can report back later with my new X.

It was nearly closing time when I went and I wonder now if maybe he hadn’t hit his AppleCare targets. He was keen to point out they get no commission, so why push it so hard, even after I’ve confirmed with them it can be bought later.

Anyway, good luck!

No 256GB in any of my local stores this morning. I popped into Apple Birmingham to have a play with the X and the EarPods yesterday. The guy said they’d had 800 units in, second highest in the UK, with Covent Garden being the only store to receive more.

Did anyone who kept their Argos order get any further updates about delivery today?

That’s really crap service from Apple!!!!

Be sure to leave feedback through the link on your emailed receipt. I’ve don’t it before and they do follow up on it.

Perhaps he’s an ex currys employee who needs to see the Apple way

Few thoughts on my X after using it for a few hours.

Space Grey is *gorgeous*. I know silver is the most popular colour this year but those of you going SG will not be disappointed. I love the way the stainless steel band looks, it’s got a shine but at the same time is blacked out.

The notch really doesn’t bother me. You quickly forget it’s there in normal use, and tbh the ‘ears’ having all of the system info makes sense.

Face ID is mostly super quick. It had a problem recognising me just after I’d woken up a few minutes ago but I’m assuming that was me not having my eyes open enough/just being generally very tired.

Only thing the X is really waiting on is for developers to sort their apps out, I hate having massive black bars on Spotify for example. But that’ll come.

Online Argos person has just said my 256SG is out for delivery for today, but he also couldn't give me a tracking number as yet. I'm managing my expectations…

Anyone think John Lewis will be good again for 8am?

I ordered the same, one person said it will be coming tomorrow one told me not, no idea who to believe. No idea who to believe

This makes me very hopeful that my “dispatched” order is genuine. A friend of mine ordered at a similar time and the order tracking can’t find her device so it seems plausible. I’ll believe it when I see it

I would hang any hope on John Lewis today; they gave me the right run around yesterday, website crashed multiple times despite having phone 'in the bag' at just after 8:00am, and eventually they were 'out of stock' before I next managed to get to the check out. Their systems were atrocious, as was the attitude of their call centre staff .... apparently they're not now getting more stock until next Friday.

I was thinking about leaving feedback while typing that out. Hadn’t looked at the email receipt so didn’t know there was a survey - thanks!

There was also a minor data protection breach.
