I was expecting to use the "Reserve and Pick Up" to buy the phone outright.

For any iPhone you reserve, you can 100% pay for it up-front at the Apple store.

Ok - if you're IUP, but had an IUP reservation for December, you might want to cancel it, then go through process to make a new IUP one (confirm eligible then search for stores - there's still stock available for in store pick up today
. I saw Reading, and several other stores had it for IUP only and it's 6:19am)
EDIT I want back through the process - Reading had IUP in store reservations slots for today/this morning as did Basingstoke, Bengal in Kingston upon Thames, Bath store also.

I had a 64GB space grey for pick up at 1pm at Birmingham. Nationwide blocked my card and sent me a text. By the time I’d replied to the text to okay the transaction it’d gone. I am REALLY pissed off right now.
Apple Reseller stores, or at least the one in my city. Apple Stores get stock every day, resellers every week.
That never showed for me. Said unavailable for all models. Been on it since it went live
Stupid question, but where are you seeing IUP as an option? I don't use the apple app, and the reserve and pick up link wasn't working - but I realised if you add a phone to basket and then checked out, you could select which stores to pick up. The only store that didn't have any stock for me was Regent Street store. I wanted IUP but could only pay the full amount :S, but by the time I was reading around, all the phones were gone (at around 06:04).
Some someone confirm, if I select pick up through checkout, will I be charged there and then - or can I change my option when I get to the store? :S Will try again on Monday I think.

I'm using the app. But you could try https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program and then use the link their to check eligibility and then see in store reservation
If you do IUP, you don't get charged then and there it's just a reservation (you have to sign an agreement, so basically there you do the paperwork, and give bank details, any upfront fee etc)

You can pay in full, although they do seem to be pushing iPhone Upgrade Programme with Reserve and Pick Up.
I did this yesterday, but the sales assistant was curious why I didn’t want to go for iUP. He was also pretty pushy about AppleCare in a Currys/PC World way.
Did you go in and tell them your reservation, and then ask if you could pay outright? What was their response? and how long did it take?
Jeez, just seen what’s left of the Audi hit by that UK mail lorry - if anyone was expecting a delivery that might have needed the QEII bridge look no further - hope the people are all right it’s completely wrecked
Set my alarm this morning for 0550 (on a Saturday?!) and found that the two local stores had stock of the 64GB in space grey for pickup for outright purchase & IUP. Cancelled my pre-order day estimated Dec 1st reservation (changed from the 2nd over the past week) and ordered for one for pick-up on IUP this morning.
I presume that the pre-order system allocated me a specific device in the inventory/manufacture backlog but find it strange that Apple couldn’t adapt the system to make use of existing stock.
