Aaand after all that... I’m really not sure I like this thing. Build quality is great, no cosmetic issues, functionally it’s all fine but I’m really not liking the display. The colour shift with TrueTone on is pretty aggressive (more so than my iPad Pro, whose screen I really like, under the same lighting) and I’m finding the blue shift of the screen when viewed off-axis really distracting: it’s more obvious with TrueTone on than off, maybe because the TrueTone is making the display colour temperature pretty warm. After a couple of hours of use I still prefer my 7, I think.

Received my iPhone X 64GB Silver yesterday! I was on the Nov 13-20 estimate and yesterday, my order changed from Processing to PFD, but I also reserved an iPhone at my local Apple reseller last week, and they called me yesterday saying they have my iPhone ready for collection, so I popped into the store and picked it up, and cancelled my Apple order.

I have ordered a Belkin BOOST↑UP™ wireless charger from Apple's website (expensive, but hey, at least I will get 7.5W charging soon!) which will be delivered tomorrow by UK Mail. I have also got insurance on it from SoSure, protected against loss/theft/damage and next-day replacement/repair, for £10.49/month, so I am going totally case-less!

This phone is beautiful. The display looks amazing, and I have turned on TrueTone, as I like it very much. The speakers are also pretty loud and clear. Face ID works flawlessly and it was a breeze to set up. Also bought a few paid apps like CARROT weather and Apollo for Reddit, which look amazing on the iPhone X and much better than other apps. Some apps like Google Maps have the black bezel, which is annoying, but I hope it gets fixed soon. Camera is amazing, wasn't expecting anything less than that, however front-facing Portrait features aren't perfect, as expected because its in beta, and I hope it comes out of beta soon. Battery life is also excellent so far. The gestures are easy to understand and intuitive.

It's only been a day, but I am loving my iPhone X. I will update in a week when I have used this phone more thoroughly.
Do these insurers use third party parts when repairing or does it go to Apple to be repaired?

Collected mine. As nice as everyone says. Also, Meadowhall is due for a delivery tomorrow, according to the staff there.

For those who didn’t receive an email this evening, are you London based? Just curious.

Also, does anyone know how finicky Apple are about reservation times? Couldn’t book a reservation time earlier than 3:30, but I’m home all day and would rather pickup first thing.

London here... :(

A update on my day and a half with my iPhone X.

Yellow screen back again, fed up with Apple and yellow screens, I’m sure they are calibrating them to a warm setting but I don’t like it, it’s just not accurate, this with True Tone off. So into the Display Accommodations I go to fiddle with the filter, managed to get it better, I don’t like using the filter as it does impact brightness a touch but the screen on this is still brighter than my 6s so I can deal with that, also don’t like how quickly it turns blue when angled, not very noticeable when something colourful is on the screen but if you have a white screen like a webpage or Mail it’s very fast to tint blue.

Now, saying all that, after my initial disappointment instead of wow moment some have had, after using it since lunchtime yesterday it’s become quite apparent that it’s a great looking screen, as I said it’s brighter than my 6s, and definitely pops a lot more too, colours are great, taken a few snaps and they look much better than I’ve seen with my previous iPhones, guess that’s obvious but I think it’s the biggest step I’ve seen in the camera from a previous model that I’ve noticed in my iPhones going back to the 3GS. I guess the display is helping there too.

I did pop into the Cardiff Apple store and had a look at the display models, checked a few and turned off True Tone, less yellow than mine but also not as bright, overall I preferred mine.

Battery life seems better than my 6s after using it fairly heavily while going around Cardiff since 9.30 this morning to 9 in the night with about 20% left when I got home, but I still have 1 or 2 more battery cycles till it settles in so hopefully a touch better to come.

Apple Pay with Face ID has been a breeze, used it about 8 times the last two days, if anything faster than Touch ID and less fiddly, I don’t know, it just seemed to work better for me. Double tap button while looking at phone, within a second move to terminal and instantly taken, much faster on the terminal confirmation than the still very quick 6s.

Face ID itself works great, even better than expected, even when the big collar of my winter coat was over my mouth with the phone held at the usual low angle it saw it was me Just fine, and plenty, plenty fast enough to unlock. Raise, swipe and as you finish the swipe it’s basically at the home screen, I’m all good with that. Only time it’s refused to unlock was when I was laying in bed where a fair bit of my face was buried in pillow, not surprising, just a turn of the head fixed that.

Only thing I have noticed is the Animoji are a touch more jittery than I’ve seen in videos, don’t know why.

Also one thing I haven’t noticed with previous iPhones is when you get below 5% battery it dims the screen a bit, then when it gets to either 1 or 2% it lowers the animation and scrolling quality a lot so rather chuggy, guess it’s trying to extend its life a bit more? Might just be an iOS 11 thing.

Apps wise, we still have a bit to go on that front, even those that have been updated for the X a few have issues with the Notch like app icons over or under lapping the OS elements up there, or a third party YouTube app that has a progress slider at the bottom in landscape mode that now is conflicting with the Home Bar so if you start sliding through the video you hit the Home Bar and then it slides the app off screen. That’s something that could be an issue in other apps but that’s the one I’ve seen, so some moving around of controls needs to be done on apps for the X. Still, early days, response from developers seems better than I remember going from 5s to 6 screen size.

Face ID inside apps has been great, definitely a time and effort saver there, 1Password for example, Just unlocks instead of waiting for a Touch ID confirmation, Amazon comes up with Face ID and in it goes, literally effortless.

So, I know this isn’t a first impressions thread but I thought I’d give an idea what is maybe to come for you guys still waiting and hoping for your X to arrive. I had mine only 5 days after launch day instead of the 13th to 20th window I was given so happy about that. I hope your experience is as good at least if not even better than mine, let me know if you have a question, otherwise take care all and good luck for another year, or perhaps even ten. :)

That wallpaper was all over Twitter today. Way to busy for me.

I went pink, for now.

Cool - i’m not on Twitter so I wouldn’t have seen that. I guess I won’t be able to decide until I eventually get my X. Yours looks cool, BTW.

iStockNow was showing 3 at Cheadle this afternoon so I called them to check and they didn't have any, must have been display devices. Again though, the fella on the phone reiterated about their 1000+ delivery tomorrow and recommended furiously refreshing the website all day. Like I haven't been all week! :p

Like magic my phone is also ready for collection tomorrow. Obviously there has been a huge delivery tonight!

The X really is amazing, for the people who haven’t got theirs yet it’s really worth the wait. I’ve had an Apple leather case on my last few iPhones and didn’t want to use a case with this, I just wanted to enjoy the design caseless but when I got it I was terrified to put it down and felt I had to be extra careful when using it, so I ended up getting an Apple leather case today, it doesn’t feel anywhere near as grippy as their leather cases for older phones, has anyone else got the leather case? What are all your thoughts on getting a case for your X?

Would like some insight on these iUP orders coming to fruition.

Have all stores had a delivery and some are still on hand scanning stock hence some areas getting notifications?

People with Dec 9th dates getting phones before people with Dec 1st dates seems... crappy.

I can understand focusing on London as it’s a demand-heavy area but these are pre-orders, they’d have known exactly what dates they were going to satisfy at point of dispatch. Why leave those who’ve preordered in the north with nothing?

To be honest I’m flabbergasted that my 27/10 pre-order, which was fraught with errors and took me 25 minutes to process, which subsequently led to a estimated delivery date of 2/12 is actually here AND 3 weeks early.

Good on Apple!

Sadly the last couple of years I’ve struggled to get launch day phones or even a phone within 3 weeks of launch, so it’s refreshing to see stock levels a little healthier.

I’m a complete fan boy, having had every iPhone from the 2g onwards, I did however skip the 3G and 3GS. I was on the brink this year if turning to Samsung’s Note, but I still can’t get my head around their OS!
