Hi

256 Silver being delivered today.

Regret my colour choice now though so if anyone is willing to meet at the Norwich Apple store with a sealed black 256gb I’m happy to get the store to exchange them (if that’s possible)

Regards
Warren

0815 silver 256 just changed to dispatched :)

Hopefully will be able to reschedule for tomorrow but I won’t hold my breath

I was late to the party on pre-ordering day. I was camped on the Apple Store app from 7.45AM but couldn't actually get my order placed until 8.14AM on 27th Oct. It's the first time EVER that I've not had my handset on launch day. Yesterday I finally got some movement when I got an email from Apple saying that my card had been declined - this always seems to happen with my bank. A quick call to the fraud department and the block was released.

About ten minutes ago, my order for an iPhone X 256gb in Space Grey changed to 'Preparing for Dispatch'. My Apple orders have always come by DPD so I'm guessing that will be the case, and I'm quite happy with Monday really.... I'd only waste my whole weekend 'playing' if it comes tomorrow!!!

So, yesterday I sent an email to Tim Cook, highlighting the issues and experiences that I had using the iUP process (this will be my 2nd year). Even mentioned that I doubted he would read the email.

This morning at 8:20, to my absolute surprise, I received a call from the “office of Tim Cook” who had “read my email with interest”. She apologised about the experience I (and countless others) had, and assured me that generally speaking this isn’t the way they wanted the iUP experience to be. Apple realised that this was the first year that UK iUP members could actually upgrade the handsets, and know that there were some lessons learned about stock allocation as well as giving iUP preorders some priority (as they had in the US with pre-authorisation).

I mentioned that people were able to circumvent the stock issues by reserving as iUP and then changing in store to outright buying and the lady was very apologetic. Apples model with iUP is to sign up as many people as they can to tie them into the iPhone (which is awesome business sense) but the various loopholes were causing allocations to go to the wrong people. She was in no doubt that people were reserving on iUP (non existing members) and then opting to pay in store outright to then scalp on the various markets. This is NOT what Apple want, and i'm assured that they value their loyal customers (admittedly it didn't seem like it this year). They are hoping to change the process next year to say that any iUP reservations need to go through at LEAST the credit check first (ie process it as an iUP) and if rejected only then can the customer purchase it outright.

She was offering to view my case personally, but i told her that this morning/last night (with or without intervention, not sure!) that my order had now been approved for pickup and i was actually on my way to the store to collect.

I thanked her for the call and told her that I was pleasantly surprised that from one email that was directly sent to Mr Cook himself, within 18 hours someone had actually reached out. I don't care how crap people think Apple as a company is or their technology is "so last generation", their customer service is light years ahead of anyone else out there.

Just thought i'd share.

PS...its been a LONG time since i was impressed by the build quality of a product (not saying that the last iterations of the iPhone were bad build, just got used to the standard they had set i guess) but wow...this thing is amazing. I feel like i've ruined the dynamics of the phone just by putting a clear full body skin protector on it, but running my fingers between the screen and the stainless steel, i can't actually feel where one ends and the other begins...this feels like the process is accurate to microns. i wouldn't even let my wife hold it...i showed her from far away :D:D

HAHA...she did say "you trust me with our child, but not with your phone...." i had no answer.
it will be interesting to see what changes they put in place (if any) but it was refreshing that even during such a busy time for them they had the time to ring me. I was, at most, expecting a standard boilerplate email response from them.

well done, apologies for using the 'evil bot' reference but you were so quick :D, care to share how you were able to bag it so quickly? I was already selecting the time slot when it said it was no longer available
I had the reservation page open on my Apple app from this morning so started maybe a step or so ahead. Pot luck I guess and good practice from previous year reservations!

People can say what they want about how Apple has changed under Tim Cook, their customer service is the best around and so are the Apple stores for that matter, i love going into an Apple store when i go shopping.
