Cool vid - thanks for posting.

Biggest shocker for me is the fact that the iPhone XS Max has exactly the same screen size as the iPhone XS in that on the XS Max, you don't get any extra row of icons or extra info when in any app, when compared to the XS. The Max is displaying the same screen as the XS but in just a bigger format.

I'm pretty sure this was not the case with the 8 and 8 Plus as the Plus sized screens did actually display more info.....

This has cemented my decision that I made the right choice going from the 8 Plus to the XS.
:)

It's just because no third party apps have been updated to utilise the extra screen real estate yet. We saw the exact same happen when the 6 and 6 Plus were released, apps stretched until developers updated their apps. The screen has more "points" compared to the standard X/XS, which allows more content to be displayed.

"Apps that were built with Xcode 9 (i.e. targeting iOS 11) are unaware of the existence of the iPhone XS Max screen size. When built with the Gold Master version of Xcode 10, apps see the true nature of the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR screens. "

Hey guys,

Decided that I’m going to sell my 8 Plus (owned outright) and jump aboard the iUP to get a SG XS 256GB.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to secure a reservation before they stopped accepting them. However, I work very near the Regent St store- I’m wondering whether there is any point trying my luck there before work, or if that’s a stupid idea. I suppose that it’ll be mental as it’s their flagship UK store...

Any thoughts? My plan b is to get up early Saturday morning to go for a second wave reservation

Thanks!

I wonder if they had the Zoom Homescreen turned on? I always prefered the smaller icons on the bigger Plus screens. Hope they didnt remove this option.

Don’t think you got any more icons as previously..think it’s always been like that

Will take time for developers to adjust to the bigger display for apps

The Plus phones displayed the same number of icons as the regular sized phone !

...I guess I stand corrected then - perhaps I just imagined my 8 Plus displaying more icon rows than my previous iPhone 7!!?!

I currently use Tweetbot as my only twitter client and that displays about 7 or 8 rows of tweets on the page, whereas on my old iPhone 7, the same app would only display about 5 rows of tweets but as stated above, I guess this is down to each dev to develop their apps.

Can someone tell me if I can go early to the Regent Street store on Friday to pick up my iPhone? My window is 6:30-7pm, but can I go earlier to pick my phone up? Is it going to be really crowded if I go early?

I was planning to go either at 8am or 2pm

the consensus seems to be no, 30 mins or so you might be ok, otherwise you'll likely be told to come back.

Got my black leather, black silicone, taupe leather & stone silicone cases today. I'll wait until I get my phone (and decide if I'm keeping it) before deciding which case(s) to keep.

Id say go at lunch and see if there are any stock? I've got a pickup slot at 10am and would be happy to ask for you whilst i'm there what the stock levels are like.

"Preparing for dispatch" on mine. When did you order and what's your delivery estimate?
08:04 on launch day, still showing for collection on the 21st but I would have assumed the status would have changed by now...

Has your payment gone through ok? I know some people who were having problems with payment which resulted in them being stuck on processing. "Preparing for dispatch" usually means payment is all sorted and is ready to ship.

Regent Street will be manic all day - isn't this their Flagship Store?!

Just picked up the Cape Cod Blue leather case for the Max from my local Apple Store, wasn't supposed to be here until tomorrow.

It's certainly going to be a beast.

Uploaded a couple of pictures here -

These can't both be Cape Cod can they?! What colour is the one on the left?!!

I'm in a similar situation. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't do my usual thing and jump on the pre-orders as soon as they opened to get a Friday delivery. Now the 64GB SG Xs is showing delivery of 26 Sep - 3 Oct (maybe 2 Oct, I forget). If it was guaranteed 26th it would be no big deal but I'm going away for 2 months in mid Oct and I want the full 14 days while I'm still in the UK to have a good play with it and make sure I'm happy with it, it'll be my first FaceID iPhone.

What is the "second wave reservation" thing that you mention? Is that a standard thing with new phone launches where after launch day any Apple stores that didn't get rid of all their units either because people didn't pick up reservations or because walk-in trade wasn't as high as anticipated open up reservations on the stock they still have? If yes then I might try the same thing this weekend.

My thoughts on your question - I would swing by the Regent Street store given you say it's close. I don't think anyone quite knows how many people will hold off Xs until they see Xr. I suspect there are enough people who want the biggest and best and will go for the Xs+ anyway with hardly a glance at the Xr to sell out the Xs+ stock completely on launch day whereas there just might be enough potential Xs buyers holding off until they can see the Xr to leave some launch-day stock unsold if stores do tend to provision some extra units for walk-in trade beyond what is pre-reserved. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part but it's what I'm hoping for.

I'm interested that, coming from an 8 Plus, you say you're getting an Xs not an Xs+. Was that a typo or have you decided that the Plus size is just a bit too big for comfort for your personal tastes/requirement?

I'll check my credit card-nothing on the order page to indicate a payment problem-I'm nervous now!

That is incredible. Actually sounds too good to be true.....as effectively you paying £1098 over 2 years which (given the phone itself is £999) means you paying £4.10 a month for a 100GB data plan!

Out of interest, how is everyone pronouncing this? I know the X is supposed to be "Ten" but i'm definitely reading "Ex" and with the Xs im reading "Ex Ess"..

Anyone else?
The X = 10. That's what Apple say so no argument - otherwise you'll be the idiot. I find people who have little technological expertise tend to pronounce is as 'ex' and they call Mac OS X 'Mac OS ex' too. It demonstrates ignorance to be honest.
