So, if I'm understanding correctly, when I hand my iPhone X back on Friday, I am going to get a refund of 12 months worth of AppleCare?

No as your going via the ‘official’ IUP process of just handing it back and that being used to close you existing IUP by Apple. That’s why it’s not great value.

The good ole Nokia 3110. I thought I was the business with that when I was at college.
nokia_3110.jpg

I drooled every time I saw somebody with this one - the Nokia 7110:

upload_2018-9-19_11-19-23.png

Until I finally managed to get one temporarily and discovered that although it looked super cool, it was a beast to fit in your pockets and the WAP browser was ridiculously slow!!!

This phone was also sometimes wrongly referred to as the 'Matrix phone' as it had a striking resemblance to the handsets used in the very first Matrix film, however, that phone, was actually, the Nokia 8110:

I went from the 3110 to the 7110. It was a nice phone but I agree, not great to fit in the pocket and not at all quick.

while we're all waiting for our tech to arrive, I thought I'd ask a brief question about cases in here as it's UK focussed, hope that's ok.

I've purchased a saddle brown leather case which has arrived, as well as a Sena leather case that is due in October, but I really would like to change it up a bit this year. Does anyone have any recommendations for a fabric type case, like grey fabric, maybe with chocolate or tan leather accents? Something classy but simple

Edit: I should say I'm looking for cases that fit XS Max

I've had to explain that to so many people over the years... the phone in the Matrix was a hybrid 7110/8110... it was an 8110 modified to spring release!

Nokia 8110 was my first phone when I was 18 (old enough to get a phone contract)

I've had TONS of phones over the years... loads of Nokias.. Motorola StarTac, Sony Ericsson T68 (with the camera attachment) iMate-Jam, iMate K-Jam...HTC Tytn, Nokia N95 (LOVED THIS PHONE).. then iPhone, iPhone, iPhone, iPhone Ad nauseam.... Hey,

Just bought an iPhone X case thinking it would fit an iPhone XS. Apparently, it does not, the camera is slightly larger so it may not fit. However, I bought this case.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0743B47P5/ref=twister_B074PPZ2J6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I have it with me now and it is polypropylene? Could I possibly just squeeze my iPhone into there without any problems? I would hate to have to get a new one off Amazon. Amazon Logistics are terrible!

Also, an iPhone X (edge to edge) screen protector should be fine right?

Guys & Gals,

If you could get a 10% staff discount from Argos and use their 12 month interest free period would you?

AppleCare+ would be bought direct from Apple. Argos would be paid monthly to the equivalent IUP payment.

Aside from last years delivery debacle, and not getting guaranteed launch day delivery, it would seem much better value to buy it from Argos. At the end of the 12 months the phone could be recycled and the agreement paid off accurring no interest. There would be 12 months of AppleCare to refund aswell.

Argos finance can all be applied for online thus no need to visit an Apple store (20 miles from me.) Argos will deliver too. I’m on giffgaff so have a cheap plan. I have cash in the bank to buy outright but it seems more sensible to use 0% finance.

Back in December 2005 I bought the rare Motorola A1200i which was an Motorola import directly from Hong Kong. It was part of the Motorola 'Ming' range in Asia.

Absolutely cracking / futuristic phone for the time with full touch-screen capability and stylus. Loved it, still got it today.

I remember all my friends at the time saying a phone without physical numbers would never work mainstream.

Roll on two years to June 11th 2007 and Steve Jobs announces the first Apple iPhone! The rest is history!

are you sure? IUP is split over 20 months not 12?

I’m just saying if I paid off 61.45 a month to Argos.

69 + (61.45 x 11) = £744.95

A 64 GB Max from Argos would cost me 1099 x 0.9 = £989.10

There will easily be £250 of equity in the phone at the end of the 12 months to settle the agreement and cover the next lot of AppleCare+.

Does anyone know what time deliveries start on Friday? I mean, what will be the earliest, 8am or even earlier?

What do we think the chances of walking into an EE shop on a Friday and walking out with an XS are?
And does anyone know if EE will let me use my student discount in the shop?

I was just about to ask the same question for Saturday as it's upgrade day... I'm planning on leaving work midday and heading out to try my luck for a Max.

Much better than your chances of getting a Max, from what I can tell.

I'm actually surprised that the iPhone X cases don't seem to fit the iPhone XS ones as I was actually gonna buy an iPhone X case for my XS as there appears to be a wider colour choice.

yup that would work.. 10% off on a thousand pound is something hard to ignore

Indeed. Not even allowed to open let alone turn on demo devices until Apple says so.
good old DPD last year releasing a CPW order one day early for someone who collected from the depot last year...
