Decided to lock in my trade-in value for my 64gb 8 Plus with MusicMagpie for £450. Not ideal but I know I’m gonna be tempted to upgrade anyway, and so I want to see what the new iPhones offer before I commit, and it allows me to guarantee that amount before the prices decline anymore. Looking forward to tomorrow! Hoping the base storage is 128gb on the new phones, but I’m managing fine on 64gb (27gb free) so not a deal breaker.

What new features/improvements do you all want to see?

I’m hoping for: ProMotion, camera upgrades, stereo audio recording, and the other usual improvements, etc.

Also upgrading from an 8 Plus. I’ve flipped flopped between the “Xs” and the “Xs Plus” in my head about 100 times - can’t decide!

Aw it’s so tough to decide! I used to be on the regular sized 4.7” iPhones (6, 6s, 7) before moving to the 8 Plus, and honestly I find the size manageable so I think I’ve decided on the Xs Plus. Plus, the battery is significantly better on the larger phones and so this 8 Plus is the first time I’ve been really happy with the battery life. My main reason for upgrading is dat OLED HDR goodness.

The price is the only tempting thing to me about the regular Xs tbh, and so if it’s £200 less than the Plus then I may decide to go with that if it has the same features.

All the small print shows that you’re able to upgrade after 11 payments rather than when a new phone is released. Clearly least years delay added that additional month. Apple would need to get this back on track at some point rather then delaying launches from their usual September.

Most people moving from the IUP X to this years phones should have 1 payment left (initial 8 owners should be ready to go). I’d rather pay the remaining payment a few weeks early, it’s coming out the bank sooner or later.

Obvs it might inconvenience people on tighter budgets

Aye. The cleanest way forward would be for Apple to promote an early upgrade path, where those that want to can do so by paying up for that 11th month on launch day or whatever.

Apple will want to have a bumper last couple of months of 2018, so I can't see them delaying the physical launch for the early X adopters on the Upgrade Programme to be eligible. From all the hubub I've seen of the last few weeks, it would seem Apple's main target this season are all the people still hanging on to 5s, 6 and 6s devices - a pool of people that would surely be far larger than the above X early adopters.

The sell-on value is what I love about iPhones. I got £361 for my 7plus 128gb, from musicMagpie. Not bad for a 2 year old phone that cost 819 new

Did you get an 8 or an X? I got an X and I haven't paid my 11th payment yet as it didn't come out till the 3rd of November.

Given the X launched 3/11 the earliest 11th payment should be 3/10?

I didn’t get my phone till a week after launch so my upgrade date shows as 10/10.

You’re right. I got an 8 so wasn’t affected by the delay and have made 11 payments. Guess the only option will be to make an extra payment, unless there are similar delays.

Although looking at trade in prices with third parties, it may be an option to trade in and settle the loan and have a few £ leftover.

Regarding the EE non-max tariffs, I've just moved to one, and I get 141Mbs down and 95Mbs down still. Also, if you are getting the slower speeds, you can get a go faster addon from EE for £2 per month (which can be cancelled at anytime).

Also, if any of you are with Bupa, you can get a 20% discount on EE Sim Only (and the Apple Store!). https://bupa.xexec.com/

Yes thats an option but marginal for me. after 10 payments I have £639.50 remaining on the loan and envirofone offer £635 for the X 256gb.

If I make 1 more payment, the loan remaining drops to £575.55 but the residual value of an X after the keynote is likely to drop too. If it doesn't drop <~£64 then reselling next month might make a few quid.

saying the above, I'm pre-ordering Friday so no waiting for me!

Does that remaining balance include AppleCare though? Because you’d likely be able to get the rest of that refunded.

Edit: it probably is better to sell privately and settle the loan. I just find the iUP is easy

Pretty sure you don’t get AppleCare refunded if you’re on the iUP.

That’s correct. I was referring to the case where I settle the loan with Barclay’s myself. I was under the impression you could then contact Apple and cancel/refund the remaining AppleCare cover.

If I manage to make a reservation for launch day stock at my local Birmingham Apple Store and then go to collect/sign up to IUP first thing in the morning on launch day, will I have to join the queue with those that don't have reservations? Or, is there also a queue for people with reservations?

This will be my first time going to an Apple store on day of product launch so just want to be clear what the process is. Cheers!

separate queue, there'll be a lot less in it! you might get away with turning up early but its usually best to arrive during the given time slot

thats what I had assumed but the small print seems to suggest otherwise. Who knows if Apple enforce this, as its like going to take days for them to credit the refund to Barclays and then it to show up before you then clear the remaining balance... feels like an admin nightmare waiting to happen! would have made more sense to pay us back directly!

7. Cancellation of Financed AppleCare+. If during the term of your Instalment Loan you cancel your Financed AppleCare+ policy associated with your iPhone Upgrade Programme or if it is cancelled in accordance with the AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions, any refund due on your Financed AppleCare+ will be paid to Bank as a payment toward any amount owed by you to Bank. If the AppleCare+ refunded amount is greater than the amount owed on the Instalment Loan, Bank will pay the balance to the bank account you used to enrol in the iPhone Upgrade Programme.

I paid off my X 2 months ago and they refunded Apple Care to to Barclays who then transferred the money to my account automatically - so, you'd be better off paying off the X, selling it to a recycle co for £635 and get £110 back from Apple Care - today's prices.

Ah I didn't know they will give me a time slot, that's ideal then! Just hope reservations/preorders go smoothly, last time I preordered through Apple was for the iPhone 7 and it went through a breeze on the app. I'll have my Mac, iPad and iPhone all set up ready anyway so fingers crossed!

As I mentioned before, they give you an extension to the 14 days but I'm not sure if you have to request it or not?

I think this answers the question I raised earlier today on here. Thanks to JinJin for doing some digging as well.

Pretty sure you have to ring them and request it (or possibly email, in my experience they’re pretty good on responding).
I’ve had reasonable experiences with envirofone although they did rip me a bit with a 6 Plus I sold to them.
