Makes no odds in the UK; if you buy from JL or anywhere else you can still walk into an Apple Store with it.
JL Customer service is outstanding; I'd be picking up Applecare too anyway. Wouldn't touch Currys or Argos with a bargepole mind.

You can’t walk into a Apple store once the warranty has expired. Apple are hassle free getting repairs or replacements outside of warranties once you mention consumer rights

I am upgrading to the 12.9 model with O2. I ordered on 7 May (so I know I'm well behind everyone else). The feedback from O2 is pretty bleak as to when they will get any stock. Looks like it might be July before I get mine.

(Btw hi everyone, this is my first post).
Hi and welcome to the apple side ?
I’m not sure why order with a carrier? They‘re so much more expensive unless you have some kind of excellent discount in which case I totally get it!!

Only thing with me I would rather wait a little and have consumer rights with Apple than the likes of Argos, Curry’s, JL etc especially if you thinking of keeping it a number of years
Totally agree … John Lewis would be fine as they have their 2 year warranty. I’ve had a brand new phone from apple way after 2 years because they could see my point that the home button (dark ages!) had stopped working. They only did that because I’d originally purchased from them. Curry’s (?) aren’t interested after a year and even within a year they try to fob you off with a repair rather than a replacement. (Not used them for Apple stuff though, it could be different?!)

With AppleCare of course no doubt you will be charged the fee for replacement.
Sure. It just means that you are not completely left with a faulty device.
It's better to pay the AppleCare+ fee, than the replacement fee outside of warranty.
It makes more sense if you are getting a discount from other retailers.

Otherwise, I agree that if you are planning to keep the device for more than the warranty offered, go with Apple direct.

Thanks for the welcome! Actually the device cost is the same price (O2 separates device cost from the tariff). Plus O2 allows the cost to be spread over 48 months at 0% interest). It's better value for me than eg using a credit card.

John Lewis give 2 years guarantee on all Apple products as standard plus you can buy 2 years accidental damage insurance for an extra £40. It’s probably not as convenient as AppleCare but it’s down to cost v convenience.

Have just pre ordered the 11" 256GB Space Grey model off Amazon for £835 with delivery which is due 29th May :( Wish I done it yesterday when it was at £814 with delivery on the 28th but whatever :) This is my first iPad since I bought the original back in 2010 lol.

Screenshot-25.png

I could've obviously ordered much sooner than this but didn't think i wanted one. My plan was to buy a Mac to replace my PC which is doing my head in. I was gonna wait for an iMac with larger display (24" is pathetic) or a future MacBook Air revision but I think I'll be quite happy with an iPad. The iPad will be my main device for at home but I'll be keeping my PC around for gaming so likely will only get used at weekends now. I should be able to do everything else I want on the iPad which would be watching YT/Netflix, listening to music/audiobooks, general web browsing, light photo/video editing, making songs/recording music, and some gaming (League of Legends, Genshin, Football Manager, etc)

The iPad Pro is probably overkill. I was actually originally looking at the iPad Air but of course that only comes in 64GB or 256GB. I wanted 128GB lol. The 128GB 11" iPad Pro is only £20 more than the 256GB iPad Air. Well done Apple that's clever... Also, despite initially wanting 128GB i realised I would probably be better with 256GB anyway. my iPhone is 256GB and my PC boot drive is 250GB. I have a 2TB SSD for games (I'll only be playing casually on the iPad) and 2TB for storage but I can just transfer files from the iPad to a USB or something and put it on the PC for backup. So really I only need about 250GB.

I decided to go for the Pro over the Air cause for £120 difference you're getting a higher refresh rate display, better camera, better speakers, M1 chip, face id, thunderbolt, and double the RAM!

Even though I've ordered on Amazon I am gonna keep checking Apple to see if they have any stock in stores I can order for collection. I done that with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I had it pre ordered through Apple but it wasn't gonna arrive until a couple weeks after launch. I went on the day of launch and managed to order one to collect a couple hours later! So if I can get one from an Apple Store I'll cancel the Amazon one.

Once I pick up the iPad from Apple or Amazon ship out the iPad I'm gonna order a screen protector and case. Also gonna need a USB C to A dongle for backing stuff up to my PC. If I'm happy with the iPad then I'll buy AppleCare+ :)

John Lewis give 2 years guarantee on all Apple products as standard plus you can buy 2 years accidental damage insurance for an extra £40. It’s probably not as convenient as AppleCare but it’s down to cost v convenience.
It's £80 across the board for JL's accident insurance (Protect Plus) on iPad Pros. AppleCare+ £130-150 depending on model. Protect Plus is run by Domestic & General on behalf of John Lewis.

I have Protect Plus on my OLED TV that I got from John Lewis. 5 year warranty from JL and for £140 I get protection against accidents + burn in. Setting it up is easy but yeah it'd be more convienent from be able to just go into an Apple Store and get it replaced there and then. I don't know if you can go into a John Lewis store with an iPad to get it replaced if you have Protect Plus but I don't imagine so. I just know I can't walk in with a 55" TV but hey it could be different for an iPad...

Anyway, I guess you need to decide if you want the convenience of being Apple to go into an Apple Store or save yourself £50-70.

I just got a notification from the Apple newsroom that the new iMacs, iPad Pros and Apple TV will all be "in stores" on Friday, so that suggests we should get ours delivered then. And if not, get to a store early!

Order as soon as store went live — Silver 11" 256GB Cellular still saying Processing, Arrives 27 May (as is the new TV 4K), but the Magic Keyboard in white (which previously said the same) now says Processing, Arrives 24 May - 26 May.

don't know but you can just check the website in the morning and order it that way for collection. that's what i done with my 12 Pro Max in November and what I plan to do on Friday for the iPad.

edit: looking at my local store (Glasgow) it says:

"We’re currently open for shopping by reserving a one-to-one session with a Specialist, pickup of online orders, and Genius Support by making an appointment. We are open with health and safety measures and look forward to welcoming you."

Doesn’t seem to be many people posting that their orders have changed status. So I assuming majority are still sat in ‘Processing’ but we have fingers crossed for a change to ‘Preparing To Ship’ with a ‘Shipped’ by Thursday evening.

Same! I ordered a 12.9 a few days ago when it said delivery within 6 weeks. Now delivery’s are over 6 weeks but still very vague on actual delivery so I’ve no idea when mines coming either

My 12.9” Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case, which is still sitting with ‘Arrives 21st - 27th May’, now has the cost amount pending from my bank account. So fingers crossed, same goes for the iPad Pro :)

and online orders for the pro currently says unavailable for collection. Wonder if that’ll change Friday morning, and how short notice you can arrange a pickup.

I can confirm. I've also been charged for this now. The Apple Store still shows 'processing'.

The original email was 21-27 May and the Apple Store Order Status says 27 May.
