Q: How is everyone getting on with their 12.9 battery? Anyone think it’s draining quicker? ? maybe because I was on FaceTime and playing with it this morning lol Charged it to 100% and it’s already 54 ?

A few of the reviews mentioned worse battery life than the 2020 model, I assume related to the screen and possibly beefier CPU

I think you can’t really assess the battery life accurately when you've just got a new device. Partly, because you’re constantly messing around with it!

I think it goes without saying that if you’re running hdr content, the screen will eat battery though.

Battery life seems quite good so far on my 11”, going to completely drain it and then charge it up to full to properly calibrate it.

you don't need to calibrate a battery any more. in fact, fully charging to 100% (and draining to 0%) will only cause your battery to degrade faster. if you have AppleCare+ then i suppose go knock yourself out cause you can get it replaced if the battery goes below 80% health within 2 years.

ideally i like to keep my devices between 20-80%. sometimes i will allow 10-90% but i try to avoid completely charging and draining it. i learned my lesson the hardway. i used to calibrate my old MacBook battery all the time (like every 1-3 months) and eventually it stopped working and cost me £360 to fix. it died again with 5 months (not battery related) so that was a complete waste of money.

my iPad Pro came out the box with 82% and i charged it when it go to 17%. i charged it to 89% and that's what i'm one now. i got ~6 and a half hours from 65% charge so had i fully charged to 100% i'd have 35% left. so i'd say i'm quite happy with the battery life on my 11" pro so far.

Yes that’s all very true, but for accurate battery calibration you still need to occasionally go down to 0 and then charge up again.
like i said in my post. that's how my MacBook died. stop spreading dangerous information.

i am only going to do this once in a blue moon. I know how batteries work. Thanks.
nah. you shouldn't need to calibrate it. the OS should be smart enough. sure sometimes my iPhone would be stuck at 96% charging but rebooting it fixed it.

that link posted is for when you put in a new battery. apple calibrates the batteries at the factory so you shouldn't need to bother with calibration. unless someone installs a new battery themselves this is useless information.

but sure if you think you know better just ignore me. thanks.

”dangerous information” ok then. I guess I like to live dangerously by completely discharging my iPad once and a while. No more then many other people would do in a normal day. you are the fearmonger here irrationally spreading rumours because you had a bad experience with a battery once upon a time.

How are people finding the battery? Mine isn't as great as I thought it may be. Overnight drains about 2% (in magic keyboard) when not doing anything. During use it drains faster than I thought it would.

Still new though so going to see how it goes.

I do really like the 12.9" size though, not really sure how I used the 10.5 before for so long, not sure I could go back now!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know a good iPad Battery Health App I can download, need to sell my Pro 11" 2018 and someone will no doubt ask for the health status..

Thanks :)

Picked up my 256GB 12.9 in store at Regent Street after finding one on Friday. Canceled my launch day order due to want to exchange a different Device. Seems a bit more snappy, maybe down to extra RAM vs 2018 model, or just my inner justification for new device!

P.S. Fit last year’s magic keyboard fine, maybe a little bit less gap near the edge compared to 2018 model. I don’t have a screen protector.
