hey all -

if you're looking for cindori's card, amazon has one: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Rade...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255378342&sr=8-2

i've been looking for days trying to find some place that actually has them in stock, it seems they're getting pretty scarce...

cheers,

mike

If you end up buying this card and it works, please post your results in this thread.

The card you linked to appears to be a newer version of Cindori's card (notice the girl is different), which some have reported as not working. All the luck to ya, and please report back your findings.

Cheers

EDIT: The "newer" card I was referring to may have been this one, although the card you linked IS different as far as the sticker of the girl. I hope it works for you!

There is only one version of my card afaik.
The girl is different on all the online pictures, but same on cards.

Cables and Pins and Y-Splitters Oh my!

I have the early 2009 Quadcore Mac Pro.

I recently purchased the POWERCOLOR PLUS AX4890 1GBD5-UH Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFire Supported Video Card - OC Edition - Retail based on the ATI Radeon 4890 Compatibility List Thread

I know that power cables have been talked about extensively but I've scoured this thread and others and I'm still confused (sorry!)

The PowerColor card mentioned above has 2 X 6 pin power connector. So do I need to buy a couple of the cables from ATI as other have mentioned? I'm unclear because the ATI site doesn't give any specifics about the cable. And the only information here on the forum leads me to believe that the ATI cable is 6 x 8 pin.

I've also seen talk about Y-Splitters. Do I need one of those too? If so which one.

So, in short add me to the list of shumucks asking "What cable(s) do I need? (for the PowerColor 4890 2 X 6 pin card)"

Hopefully Tutor will read this and respond since he has the same card. :)

Thanks.

:confused::confused:

Looks like the ATI cable is 6 pin (same part number as is shown on the ATI website):
http://nuxx.net/gallery/v/acquired_stuff/ati_radeon_hd_4780/IMG_4091.jpg.html

And here is the link again to those cables:
http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3280778

Also, if you go this route (ATI cables) then you won't need the splitter. I believe the splitter you are referring to is for the molex connection from the drive bays if you choose not to buy the ATI cables and use the regular power adapters for the optical drives.

Taking into account that there are shortages on the "working cards", and that the new versions do not work, I've decided not to order another card and to try to make mine working, btw it should be better IMHO to try to make the existing working than to look for inexistent working cards.

The card that I received "New Version" is now proposed every where, so if we make it to work a lot of Mac Users could find it easily.

I have try a lot and can continue without any problem.

But I'm afraid that I'm reversing…

Before I had "ATI Radeon HD 4890" recognized, not working and not showing VRAM , so I've done a lot to make it to work and finally won that it's recognized only as "ATI controller VGA compatible…

Any idea ?

b. Go injector method.

Done : BSOD (blasckSOD..) "You need to restart..." during wheel...

Unplugged the two 6 pin wires and restarted.

Next ?

But may be it's biaised because I had removed all ati....kext within Extensions folder ??

Starting again almost from scratch for .kext part, I ran again 10.6.1 OS X upgrade, get the following kext installed, and ATI Radeon HD 4890 came back without VRAM information, next I'll follow your injection procedure :

1 - Install ATI_Init.pkg

2 - Install with kexthelper accel files :

ATIRadeonX2000.kext
ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle

3 - Install QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10.6.1.pkg

and then reboot

are things correct ?

I'm waiting for your GoNoGo

yup, that and ofc flash back card to original rom cause yours is not working.

I flashed it back to original Rom on a PC (and test it under XP, it works well) with:

atiflash -f -newbios -p 0 xy.rom

Does this write down the full 128 K, that means remove EFI ?

It's strange since back to Mac Pro it shows the same as before with Rom revision number and EFI manager number

ATI_init stuck at 90% and Mac Pro is also stuck, is there several versions of ATI_Init.pkg ?

GC should be installed during this injections ?

Where are now :

ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle

They shouldn't be within Extensions folder ?

Yeap

Thanks.

I installed all without the GC HD4890 in Mac Pro, install HD4890 and reboot and ... stuck, do I have to uninstall something after ATI_Init, accel and QE-CI before to install the GC HD4890 in Mac Pro ?

nope actually only that natit pkg is enough to get image, I know, I tried.
(the rest is to get 3d and stuff)

your card is pos :(

what display you using.

try it on both 4890 ports.

I can't try with ATI-Init, accel and QE_CI installed, if the card is in MacPro and supplied with the 2 cables Mac Pro show BSOD when booting.

My card works very well in a PC.

I found something wrong I reboot xfingers

Sorry for display , here is the answer:
