The biggest iPhone homer there is on YouTube but also who gets paid by Google...

Pixel 2 XL wins like 60/40 of the time vs iPhone X. The gap is extremely close to even 50/50. I liked Justine Ezariak's selfie with the X but for some reason in the slo-mo video of the ducks, the Pixel looked more realistic. I don't like the orangey tint the Note8 and X had. Even if you choose the iPhone X in most of the shots, is it really $500+ better than previous iPhones or OnePlus 5T? Is it $600 better than an Essential? That's the point many reviewers like Lewis are trying to make.

Most of them didn't say the iPhone X is a bad phone. Many said it's the best iPhone ever. What they're trying to say is it's not worth it for them and it doesn't really do anything special where it truly is the best in important areas except run iOS. A low-bezel phone is a cosmetic gimmick to make it seem fresh to a shallow showoff. Where's the real practicality in it? You lose protection and areas where to hold it. OLED, wireless, and fast charging are old tech. Animoji are for kids. Swipe gestures has been seen before since 2009.

What we are left with something new and useful is Face ID and that's not exactly something everyone loves or improves from the previous secured way. My main qualms with it involves iOS11 and how it doesn't mesh with my work flow. Just last night, I tried updating the Dasher app (it's sideloaded). It took forever to download it. If Apple works on fixing and completely revamping how notifications really work combining toggles and messages together like Android's while making tethering more simple without the need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles, then I would be more than happy to use iPhone again as my daily driver.

The phones to look at for 2017 -
Google Pixel 2 / 2 XL
LG V30
OnePlus 5T
Essential PH-1
Samsung Galaxy Note8
Apple iPhone X
Apple iPhone 8 Plus

I never purchase anything based on positive or negative reviews especially youtubers.
If I want it I buy and make up my own mind.

Congratulations. You just described every flagship of 2017.

I must be a glutton......I just ordered an unlocked iPhone X 64GB silver form the Apple store.....pick it up in an hour.
Gonna give the X one more shot.....

Wow, have you bought every single new release flagship phone this year ? Damn :) My wife would murder me if I spent that much on new smartphones ever year. She's of the opinion, one new phone a year is more than enough for me. LOL, no it's not.

Anyways interested in your opinion the iPhone X again. My customer a big phone nerd, let me play with his every time he's in, and I have to admit the design is frigging fantastic. Size is darn near perfect, wish it had a 6" display instead, but the display is very bright and crisp, the weight in hand feels hefty and solid in a nice way. The overall package might be the best smartphone in a very long time.

But...it runs iOS :( Ugh.

To me if the iPhone X was the stock Google phone running Android 8.1, that would be a geeks dream. How is iOS 11.2 on the X, as a daily driver ? If you a big Android guy like me, can you forget about Android and just dive right in, and get used to iOS ?

See that is my problem.....I get bored or fed up with one mobile OS and go to the other. Then get bored again or miss a feature only the other phone or OS has. That is why I can't just have one phone. It's a curse.

My thoughts though are we all can get used to the little nuances of any phone or mobile OS. It just depends on the features we want and are we willing to over look other things. It becomes a trade off of sorts.
There are some things my iPhone does better than my Note 8....there are some things my Note 8 does better than my iPhone.....there are some things my Pixel 2 XL does better than both and vice versa.

I would think having a iPhone X and a Pixel 2 XL would be the best of both worlds, satisfying the craving both stock OS's.

yes! But I also like a lot the features Samsung has on their skin too. I know its not for everyone though.

The Pixel 2 XL is so buttery smooth....... But it has QC issues this year.

It seems so strange that so many focus on the messenger and ignore the message.

It isn’t hard to see how Apple (and Samsung and others) can get themselves into big trouble. The smartphone market is now 10 years old. It is mature. There have been hundreds of millions of devices shipped by just about everyone.

The highest end iPhone with every bit of innovation that Apple could muster in a year used to cost $650. That was the cost even with new camera sensors, with Touch ID, with a whole new design, etc.

All of this now costs nearly a third more and that more expensive cost has a considerable head wind because they aren’t just new, never before seen features, but also features that are replacing current features that often work well enough. That’s why it is a mature market. The low hanging fruit is gone.

The iPhone X isn’t just competing with Android. They are also competing with every other iPhone they’ve ever sold and every model they currently sell. I personally decided against the X and kept my 128g/iPhone7.

Realize Apple used to have a few tiers of prices based off selling prior flagship models. Now they have those same prior tiers but several new tiers where they segment off brand new designs.

At some point it has to be trying to get blood from a stone. Even if you love Apple with all your heart and buy yearly at some point the latest and greatest isn’t going to be that much greatest and the bar is even higher when the cost keeps going up.

Last year I gave Apple $750 for a 128 GB iPhone 7. Even if I felt the compulsion to upgrade to the 8 (which I don’t) I couldn’t take the same steps. Apple raised the price of the 8 by $50 and got ride of the middle storage tier. So my choice would be to spend $850 to basically take the same actions I took last year.

Apple needs more money from existing customers to maintain profit growth because there aren’t large batches of new customers to go grab anymore. That is a sign of a mature market. it is also a sign of consolidation and decline for that market. When Apple needs $900-$950 for their baseline “new” iPhone next year that isn’t the X or SE, they won’t get it from me or I suspect from many others.

Those are some great points! But i would caution that some of those points become moot if Apple sets new iPhone sales records with the iPhone X. That would seem to prove the buying public is will to buy even at the higher price.

I like the Apple Watch, I need an iPhone, I don’t like big phones, the X is for me as I also want that camera and bigger screen.

So for me whilst interesting to see this video, it is worth the money over the competition.

I love the phone.....it is awesome and you get used to FaceID pretty quickly. The only thing that would make me not keep it is the size. I am more of a iPhone 8 Plus...Note 8... Pixel 2 XL kinda guy to be honest.

If you could only have one phone. Which is it ? Pixel 2 XL ? iPhone X ? Note 8 ?

Hmmmm..... That is tough. I have several phones because I can never just stick to one. But right now I would choose the Note 8..... but a month from now it might something different.

Love my X!

Upgraded from a 6S+. Thought I would hate faceID, but it works flawlessly for me!

Love the smaller form factor as well. Much more comfortable carrying it around. It doesn't feel like I'm carrying a cookie pan with me anymore!

Yes the iPhone X is a nice phone. But $1,500 nice ? No frigging way !!!!!!!!!!

I heard next year's X2 or whatever it's called is supposed to be a little cheaper price. Apple saying the first go around this year your paying for the R&D etc...next year the factory will already be setup and ready to build the X style phone, thus allowing costs to come down a hair.

I still think the LG V30 and Pixel 2 XL are the best phones this year. No way I'd get a phone running iOS 11.

And the OnePlus 5t for $499 is the bargain of the year.

Especially when you consider you need shell out other 100 or more for quick charger and cord.. Apple is too cheap to includes a pair of quick charger and cable... This tell you something. For a 400 dollar devices, I have a earbud and quick charger

Those of you that have an iPhone X (or 7 or 8) do you use content (ad) blockers with Safari? If so which ones and how do they work?

What you seem to be blind to (because you make essentially the same post all over the forums) is that there are many of us who don’t consider Android alternatives when we are phone shopping. I have plenty of reasons to stick to iOS, AirPods and my Apple Watch (which I love) for example. The value proposition of Android phones plays no factor at all in my purchasing decision. The iPhone X is the best phone they’ve ever made, and so it’s the one I choose to spend my money on. I feel like I am getting a value out of it, as a device I use every day for work and play. It’s not about being biased or being “blinded from the truth”, it’s about being an adult that makes decisions based on my needs and finances.

This is a tech board we've already picked what we like. You don't consider Android for the same reasons I don't consider iPhone but we're not who he's talking to.

I would argue that techy people are the ones who would really give though to what they're choosing anyway. Most of the non-techy family members I have would never watch Unbox Therapy to see opinions like this (aside from the fact that the host is super annoying).

To wrap up this thread, it boils down to this. The iPhone is for the teenagers and grandparents, that like Fisher Price type simple to use phones, or want to show off that they have the 'popular cool phone'.

Android is for the adults that are tech nerds, and like modern and futuristic gadgets.
