That's sad. A lot of macOS users use Dropbox. Would think they would make it a higher priority.Dropbox is quiet. I don't expect a M1/Universal Dropbox client even this year.
I understand. It still will use more resources than necessary. I had issues with it on my 2012 iMac i7 3.4 with 32 GB of memory. I can only imagine having issues running Rosetta.I run Dropbox on my M1 Mini, it works fine.
I replied with a thumbs up because I think the Mac universe becomes more valid by acceptance. However, I use Xcode and the Accelerate framework to perform my types of calculations. I know that is not like using a simple spreadsheet but I can do most of this stuff because I am not interfacing with too many other people and don't have to pass spreadsheets back and forth. I do use Apple Numbers for things and can export to .xlxs but I usually just pass around a .pdf of the sheet.Listen to the interview, it’s not about replacing programming with Excel. It’s about making Excel stink way less. And it’s about coders who can deploy workbooks for non-coders that stink way less. I think it’s going to be huge.
I am planning to transition my dad away from the one drive and excel to iCloud and Numbers. He really doesn't need the power of excel for the simple stuff he does. And the one cloud vs iCloud is causing him some confusion. Is there that much benefit for OneDrive to be written in M1? I'm showing my ignorance here because I honestly don't know how resource intensive it is.
I'm not a fan of the iCloud drive. Much prefer OneDrive. Despite my issues with Dropbox running on my 2012 iMac (performance issues), I broke down and installed Dropbox (Intel app) on my MBA M1 and Mac mini M1. So far, there hasn't been any performance issues.I am planning to transition my dad away from the one drive and excel to iCloud and Numbers. I tried iCloud, but the Desktop/Documents sync didn't work as intended. Dropbox and OneDrive both run seamlessly. OneDrive folder for business, Dropbox folder for personal. One thing I do love about OneDrive is that you can turn on AutoSave in Microsoft Office 365. Wish Microsoft would expand this to include other cloud services.I can't say anything about onedrive since I've never used it ... but my iCloud desktop and documents folders seem to be synced on all my Apple devices ... really convenient. I am sure one drive syncs everything too, but I can't use more than one cloud ... overwhelms me ... and since it is an Apple ecosystem ... iCloud works. I bought the Excel license for my dad's iMac and onedrive was there ... but he never used it. So, hopefully just ditch Excel and use Numbers instead.
I think all my Pages, Numbers, and Keynote documents autosave(?) ... because I can move from one Apple device to another and pick up where I left off.I tried iCloud, but the Desktop/Documents sync didn't work as intended. I spoke to their CS, apparently stable version is coming soon. But to be honest, I have been using Mac Mail, jus to wait until Spark is released natively, and it's growing on me. And after latest updates, even two attachments i got, are not displaying in email body. Not sure what happened, but true.Does anyone know how to get access to the Spark mail app beta?
Version 2.10.0.455 supports Apple M1!
Would love to be able to test this as I use Spark as my main Email app
Does Spark work on Apple Silicon Macs?
Support status of Spark on Apple Silicon Macs and Apple Silicon(M1/M2) Processors.isapplesiliconready.com
And so is OneDrive, which is really pissing me off.Dropbox is quiet. I don't expect a M1/Universal Dropbox client even this year.
I was waiting for thisGitHub Desktop 2.8.2 Native Apple Silicon Support
Ditched Skype, Teams, never used VM or Adguard, dumped Messenger (but once in a while I sign in through the browser), don't use Logitech. At my work everyone uses Zoom but I had Skype and Teams just in case but never used them so deleted them from my previous Intel iMac before I switched to the M1. Also, I've always used the Apple Numbers, Pages, and Keynote so even though the MS Office is universal(?) I never needed that. Once in a while I use the Twitter application ... I think that is native(?). I should check the application type in my System Report. Oh, and I never used Spotify ... just Apple Music. So, I'm still waiting for the following softwares to get native Apple Sillicon.
I did ditch Spotify for the Apple Music family.
- Skype for Business
- Teams
- VMWare Horizon Client
- Adguard Pro
- Messenger (Facebook)
- Logitech Options
