I don't think Skype for Business will come to AS/Universal. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought it was deprecated when Microsoft went to Teams?
It's not for on-prem but your right Skype for Business are unlikely to become native.

What's the difference between native and universal anyway? What's preferred to install?

Universal contains both Intel and Arm binaris. So it has native binaries for both platforms, but the cost is size. Unfortunately I anticipate that to be the norm for many years to come, making base storage even more limited and partly why I choose 1TB (happy I did, since I am already using half of it).

I have about 83 GB left of my 245 GB available (256 GB nominal) ... a 'tiny home.' I like living on the edge (not really). I know, I should have bought the 'Macmansion' ... but I'd just fill the space with junk. Need to weed out even more ... think I can ditch another 30 GB ... just have to find the time to do it! I'll go work on my actual garage.

I checked my System Report > Applications. The only two 'pure' Apple Silicon applications that I have are: Rosetta 2 Updater and Zoom. The rest are Universal but with a very few old Intel applications (mostly printer related which I need to weed out). Goal is to get as many Apple Silicon applications as possible. I have about 21 GB of applications in total ... I don't know what the possible savings will be if they are replaced by Apple Silicon versions ... half?? But that won't be possible for years, if ever!

Blender has public release of native ARM(M1) support.

In response to apps like teams and dropbox not being silicon native apps yet would it make more sense if apps like teams and Dropbox and abode reader be made into single catalyst universal apps designed for both Mac and iPad? Or not?
Don't know. You always wonder if the Mac will turn into one large stationary iPad someday. They certainly have to somehow combine the app development on their hardware to some degree.

Probably wouldn't make sense for Dropbox, since on the Mac it needs to have Finder integration and on iOS it connects differently via the Files API.

But waiting (im)patiently for Dropbox to go Universal.

Unofficial build of Signal Messenger available. It’s built off the same source as the Main branch, just with tweaks to allow for native operation.

Maybe they could also explain why I'm now running 65 processes all called 'Core Sync Helper'

I looked at my Activity Monitor and I have no Core Sync Helper showing anywhere (I am running only Universal applications) ... I don't know what particular application scenario in your case generates core sync helper(?) usage. Sorry, can't help!

Going off topic... Using Creative Cloud I updated Photoshop, Lightroom Classic and Camera Raw earlier today. I've only run the Creative Cloud app (for the updates) and since then Lightroom Classic (which uses Camera raw). Neither are running now, but the 65 helpers are.

See what happens when I eventually reboot...

Yes, maybe that will degenerate those. I am lucky I don't need to use Adobe applications, or their cloud. For general work type stuff my work place uses MS applications/Outlook ... but I've also avoided these and their One Cloud by using the Apple applications. Really, I guess I am the ideal user for the iMac.

Seriously - Creative Cloud is so bloaty these days it's approaching the status of malware.
Off-Topic - Post reboot I was down to about half a dozen processes of various flavours and the only app of theirs that I've run is reader.

A few hours later and I'm back to twenty or so, all doing nothing

I'll say no more, there are libel laws 😁
