Ya having reliability problems ? What did you install in your iphone ?

Seems to reset itself quite often.. I jailbroke mine and used it for a couple of days. Got fed up of it due to reliability issues and now restored it back to normal.

Hey All

Im using my OTB 1.1.2 iphone on a non iphone O2 contract, i.e. i jailbroke it after downgrading and upgrading again.

What im more concerned about is our IMEI numbers getting banned by O2. I have a friend at apple who says that all IMEI numbers are sent to O2 when you purchase because the scan of the box stores it. Therefore if the phone isnt activated there is potential to have it barred/blocked.

Likewise if you bought from O2 or Carphone warehouse you sign a contract to say you'll activate in 14 days! Makes me wonder what happens on the 15th day when you havent activated!!

Whats everyone elses thoughts on this, reckon O2 really will start blocking our phones?

I didn't sign anything when I bought mine from the O2 shop. I went in, they got me one from out back, I paid with credit card (pin number) - and left. Signed nothing.

I cannot see them blocking them. If they do then I would expect some large lawsuit coming Apple and O2's way.

yeah well I hope you're right! If mine gets barred I'm going to be very upset!

At the end of the day.

Its not like we have got a free phone - we still paid nearly 300 quid for the handset. If Apple and O2 were that bothered about us taking the contracts out - then they would make us sign up for them there and then at the store - like you do for any other mobile phone.

Stuppy - yeah man i know what you mean, legally we should be able to keep what we paid for. However im worried they're going to take a stronger stance. Im going to see if i can have a look at my friends paperwork he signed, see if it mentions them blocking fi you dont sign up.

A friend who got it from CW was actually told by the salesman that he could unlock it and apparently he was telling other customers the same, stating "dont worry about the paperwork it not important". However he's clearly on commission so couldn't care less if your phone gets barred by O2.

Nobody in the states has had their AT&T phones blocked and they've had theirs for nearly 6 months.

If Apple start blocking phones, they are going to come under HEAVY critisism. If they wanted to play the contract game, then they should have sold the phones cheaper and made it a requirement to sign up for the contract there and then in the shop to take your iPhone away.

When you sign up for a contract ona network - they usually give you a free phone - the price of the handset is subsidisied in the monthly line rental. This hasn't happened with iPhone. We are being charge full price for the handset then they want us to pay incredibly stupid prices for the contract.

I outright refuse. Give me a free iPhone and I might pay the contract, or offer better deals on contracts - but don't hit me with crappy deals on both sides.

Oh yeah i totally agree, hence im not paying for their stupid contract either.

However surely it wouldn't be apple locking the phone it would actually be O2? since its the operator who barre the phone is it not?

Hi guys, I have searched everywhere but im still confused.

I have a UK iphone 1.1.2 u have taken out the o2 contract I dont want to unlock the phone to use on other networks etc not fussed about that.

I would like to be able to install 3rd party apps though. I am a windows user but everwhere I look the instructions say only work on 1.1.2 that have been upgraded or half the instructions are mac specific. Can any1 help?

Thanks

Mike

This is the tutorial I followed, and it allows my UK iPhone to use O2 Pay&Go Sim, on 1.1.2 firmware, with no lacking features, apart from no visual voicemail.

I recommend this tuturial, it takes a while but isn't tricky.

One thing, when it tells you to click on the osx file for 1.1.2 Jailbreak, this won't work on a mac, instead type "cd path/to/jailbreak/files" then "./osx", that will fix it!

Good luck!

So I have an iPhone on contract, but I'm so disappointed with the none existing EDGE strength that I will definitely cancel my contract. But I would love to keep the iPhone as it is such a nice device.

Can I use this method to get whatever SIM I want to use?

Cheers

I'm in the same situation, have transferred from an O2 contract to the iPhone contract. This has meant less minutes and messages and a £219 transfer charge.

I really should cancel the contract and revert back to my old O2 contract. This would give me 400 minutes and 300 sms extra and a saving of £219. Will have to signup Data bol-on for £7.50 per month

I will be in the UK tomorrow for two days and plan on buying a new UK iPhone and taking it back to Thailand and using it on a Thai GSM SIM card, am i wasting my money or will I now or in the next few weeks be able to unlock it?

You can buy the Iphone from UK with no problems, but to jail-break and unlock it to use with other SIMs is not possible at this moment in time.

There is no unlock for the European Bootloaders by hackers at this moment of time.

It is possible to jail-break the UK Iphones to install 3rd party apps and use other O2 sim card. But that is all at the moment.

There are 3 other possibilities in your situation:

1) Purchase a USA Iphone via Ebay to be delivered to a UK addresss (averages around GBP300-350).
2) Buy a legit European Iphone from Tmobile, DE unlocked but will be pricer at EUR999.
3) Buy a UK Iphone O2 at a risk and hang on to it until hackers have managed to unlock the UK Iphone's boot loader .

Selamat Jalan!

I just wonder if the unlock works for a O2 sim card from other country like Hong Kong?

Is the only reason that Apple locks the phone to a carrier is in order to have visual voicemail? I mean, besides that, what other reason could there be?

Visual Voicemail is a carrier feature. The network has to add the specific equipment to make it work.

No other networks have the feature, thus it won't work with non Apple carriers.

----
available: iPhone v1.1.1 with bootloader 3.9, usable with any sim from any carrier
PM me if you might be interested.

Right, I understand that. But that's the reason they lock it to the carrier, right? Because without that, it will just be regular voicemail. So in order to get the carrier to add that feature, they lock it to them, yes?

.......... goddamnit, Rogers. Why can't you make good plans and allow the iPhone to come to Canada? lol

On a side note, I just finished Heroes season 1. Were those iPhones they were using in the future? I thought I saw Parkman using an iPhone :p

Thanks

you can get unlocked iphones with 1.1.1 for 23,000 baht. i know that's £90 more than getting one in the uk, but it'll work right away.

anyway, yes you just pay for the phone and walk out of the apple store.

Yes I believe you can get them now at MBK for B22k but I was wanting to try it with the newer 1.1.2 firmware, but I think you are right, if I get the UK phone for 269 pounds will I still need to buy the unlocking software for 30 something pounds and them it might/might not work?
I will be back in Bangkok on Tuesday but I want it now, why cant apple just have it like any other phone ???

anySIM unlocking software is free. you'll just have to wait for it to work with 1.1.2. which of course might not happen at all.

Sorry to make a meal of this, but is it possible for me to buy a iPhone today (I need it now) put a pay as you go O2 sim card in and use it here in the UK then take it back to Thailand on Monday and wait for the unlock software to become available and use my Blackberry until it is possible to unlock the phone?

no, it won't work with an 02 pay as you go SIM.
