Highlight all your songs in iTunes and then copy them to a new folder on your desktop called, for example, 'ndwgolf iTunes'. Make sure that they are all there, then uninstall your existing copy of iTunes before installing 7.4.2.

Once you have done that, go into the file menu on iTunes and click on 'add to library'. Find your 'ndwgolf iTunes' folder on your desktop and choose that. Voila, your songs will be added to iTunes 7.4.2.

Hope this helps. :)
Thanks man, i got that done, installed the new 7.4.2 iTunes and still independence wont work?
I am ready for the phone thru the window in a minute
Deep Breaths

I feel your pain! I hope that someone else can help you with this one because I have no knowledge of this side of things.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

UK o2 PAYG/Simplicity - does EDGE & Mail (Gmail POP/IMAP) work ?

Hi,

To those UK IPhone users who've managed to jailbreak to use the other O2 SIM alternatives, can you verify whether EDGE works ?

Also, whether it is possible to configure mail to check your Gmail or other web-based POP/IMAP e-mail accounts ?

From my understanding the only function you lose out is just Visual voice-mail?

Thanks to everyone it is now unlocked, i just need to wait for the full unlock to any sim so that i can use it when i get home to Thailand
Thanks again

Neil

Gmail works good.i have it set up to check my ntl through my gmail aswel.

Visual voicemail doesnt work although clicking the voicemail button just forwards you to to the ring up voicemail number.

Edge/GPRS works fine.although GPRS is slow and edge is pretty rare I've found.

Any other questions I've missed?

Thats all I was wondering, so basically, yes, everything works but visual voicemail. Seems good, I might do that then. Thanks a lot.

Nice...

thanks for the update guys.

Well, I've decided to return my o2 Iphone and managed to purchase an unlocked USA 1.1.1 Iphone.

Reason is that I require an Unlock since I tend to travel around Europe and would much prefer to use a PAYG Sim over there.

Would you suggest o2 Simplicity or PAYG? How do you guys work out the Data tariff ?

Simplicity is the way to go if you use that many mins/texts. Only a 30 day contract, and significantly cheaper than PAYG - like I said, for that amount of texts. For the data, you can bolt on £7.50 a month, 200mb limit.. I'm not sure if that's a little low though.

Out of interest, where did you get your USA 1.1.1 phone from, and for how much? If I could get hold of one of them, I'd probably use it on something other than O2 in this country.. there are better deals around I think for data.

Hey, I got the Iphone from a mate. Was fortunate to get one build on week 40. I've been told the new ones in the US all now come with the updated bootloader upgrade like the Euro Iphones, i.e. not hackable yet. If you're interested I think he's got a couple of spares (brand new) and jail-broken & SIM unlocked.

One of the many reasons for returning the UK Iphone was the poor customer experience with O2. The signal for EDGE & GSM is very poor indoors! Outdoors I have no qualms but inside buildings are ridiculous! And of course, I do travel to Europe for business and I have a collection of SIM cards to use.

I've been told ORANGE have the best EDGE network in the UK at the moment. Am looking at them as an alternative to O2.

Hay is it safe for me to now upgrade my itunes to 7.5 now that my iphone is unlocked to any O2 sim, or should i wait until i get the full unlock to any sim?????

From Hakintosh:

As many of you, im sure, have already read geohots blog, you may or may not be aware that as it currently stands, we WILL NOT be able to software unlock the 4.6 bootloader iPhone until a new firmware Update is released.

Now, alot of people are having a hard time understanding this and for most people Geo's blog wont make sense so im gonna explain why to you.

Most of you know, that to Unlock the phone, the baseband firware needs to be patched, but to patch a firmware means we need to delete the old one and flash the patched one, this was done with ieraser or anySIM or whatever way you unlock the phone. To erase the baseband firmware, you need to have the secpack, again i am sure most of you are aware of this.

With the old bootloader, the 3.9 one, you needed to have the secpack of your current baseband firmware OR the secpack of a newer baseband firmware to allow you to erase the Flash, the problem with the new bootloader is it no longer accepts the current secpack, only a newer one. Therefore, until a new firmeware upgrade comes along, we cannot erase the baseband firmware.

Now, its not ALL gloom and doom, It may be possible that someone will figure out how to bypass the secpack for deletion or another way might be found but as of now, this is where we stand.

Now that we have all that nasty stuff out of the way, i do have some good news!! Firstly, an exploit has been found in the new bootloader that should allow us to run anySIM, this is excellent news as many people where worried if there would be an exploit in this bootloader. So basically, When we get the next firmware update, once the secpack is retrieved, we should have no problem unlocking 1.1.2 with bootloader 4.6, however, after the next firmware comes out, we WILL NOT be able to update to it as we will then need the secpack from the one AFTER THAT to unlock it.

Sorry for the bad news :(

Apparently Apple will most definitely be launching a new firmware update sometime in Jan/Feb with the SDK.

Hence, developers will be getting support from Apple for 3rd party apps to be installed on the Iphone.

Those official UK Iphone users will have to hang on until then to install 3rd party apps like Summerboard, Customized, etc.

As for no-legit Iphone users, hopefully this firmware is hackable too so we can enjoy official 3rd party apps :)

Jailbreak is possible on OOTB 1.1.2 UK iPhones. This will allow 3rd party apps right now:

http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15849

It's just the unlocking that limited to O2, and that is what it's talking about in the posting above.

Oops, yea 1.1.2 firmware is jailbreaked to install 3rd party apps. What I meant was the anySIM app to unlock 1.1.2 firmware.

But it would seem the next firmware won't be released until next year (Jan/Feb 2008). Hopefully by then, we can expect hackers to figure out a way to make Euro Iphones unlocked for any SIM.

I had a UK O2 Iphone and successfully managed to jailbreak it and also restore O2 EDGE settings. But I returned it (restored it back) as I wasn't happy with O2's services plus, fortunate to know someone who went to the USA to get me a 1.1.1 Iphone which is now unlocked for any SIM :)

Just need to figure out whether to join Orange or stick with PAYG ****e o2.

Yeah, O2's network coverage isn't that great I agree. Particularly for EDGE.

I would try and prove this but i don't have a unlocked iPhone or any other phone to test it. Amazingly though i get better reception with a iPhone with 02 payandgo than with a n95 with vodafone on a buisness contract.

Sucks big time... have you noticed that when you are indoors the iphone reception drops to only 1 or 2 bars with 0 EDGE support ?

Whilst outside everything is fine.

Also the 'free' Cloud Wi-Fi service is so limited? You do get them in O2 stores, but like who would want to be surfing outside an O2 store ?!

I tried my mate's Orange SIM and the EDGE support is perfect & GSM has full bars on the exact spot, i.e. my work desk.

He doesn't have an Iphone but a Blackberry pearl.

Am waiting for my free PAYG Orange SIM to test it out first.. then maybe decide to get some 12 month contract on Orange with generous EDGE/Data 'add-on'.

I might loose out on the Cloud Wifi service and unlimited data access but at least I swap SIMs when I'm abroad (I travel to Europe 1/2 a month) and not bounded for 18 months to o2.

My risk would be that Apple could potentially clamp down on this by making future firmware 'hack-proof'.... hence loose out on new apps/updates. But for the moment I'm loving my Iphone being able to change any SIMs and making a good saving in the long-run.

To be fair I've not noticed this. I'd just like to see more EDGE.

It's in a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants. I'm part of Telegeneration (as a Uni affiliate - I'm a Uniersity of Manchester staff member), I have a BT account for wifi too so I'm fairly well covered. I'd like the iPhone to remember settings of these networks so it auto-logs in though. In a keychain maybe (Apple listen up....firmware 2.x!). My uni network needs username and pass on a page too so this would help then too.

I hate to say this but I think I'd be tempted by a 3G iPhone, even if battery was worse.
