Have the same problem on my 12.9 2nd gen iPad Pro. Was hoping for a fix but looks like that won't happen, 12.2 has made no change. I have noticed it happens if I put the iPad at certain angles, and more often if I'm on a surface that would generate more static electricity (like laying in bed) than if I was say sitting at a desk. I assume this is some type of electrical interference issue between magnets orientation and static electricity, only guess I've come up with. Super frustrating no matter what it is, for something I spent $1300 on it is inexcusable. And of course it starts happening after 1 year warranty runs out.

Where do you live Beaverman3001? I wonder if it has anything to be with being out in the cold or if you ate something with your hands and the residue stays on the screen.

I use a matte screen protector and I thought that is what caused my issue as when I cleaned it it would work again for a little while then stop.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it has to do with humidity. I live in Florida, it has mainly been a problem over the last few months now that it has been cooler and dry, though it doesn’t stay very cold here for long. Maybe the dryer conditions are more conducive to static discharge. Could be why it has recently cropped up for me, or total coincidence, who knows.

I left a comment a few days ago saying that 12.3 beta fixed the issue for me. That is still the case today after I heavily used my iPad everyday. What I noticed however is that wrist detection when using Apple Pencil doesn‘t work at all, which leads me to believe that the whole unresponsiveness issue has something to do with Apple Pencil/wrist detection.

At least it's not just me who's started noticing it. I've a 2nd gen 12.9 iPad Pro bought last April. Been working fine up til a couple of months ago when it wouldn't response to touches and swipes, sometimes across the whole screen, sometimes just in one spot.

Thanks for the heads up, might give this a try. Usually don't install beta 1 but I can live without palm rejection.

Aah this is just great, I got it on my 12,9 2018 but because it’s hard to reproduce I did nothing about it.
Hopefully Apple will acknowledge this problem now.

Hello all, after the last two updates my ipad pro 12.9’ 2nd gen has issues with not responsive screen often. I need to exit the application or click the home button multiple times or lock the screen and all goes well after. Did a factory reset but nothing helped. Anyone else with the same issue? I hope it is software
Me too.

My iPad Pro 11 is hella Unresponsive. When typing or responding to an email. Glad I didn’t put a glass screen protector on.
It’s almost as if Apple’s Update slowed down the Responsive rate of the display in order to save battery.Like sometime it feels while the display Is at full viewing brightness that it’s just asleep and takes a few taps to wake it up.

Going back to Apple stores for a replacement since I can recreate the issue. Also a hard reset made it all worse.

Probably, not buying another one of those though. Too little memory for what I do.

That's too bad. At this time, I haven't heard about the new air having problems, but who knows? Maybe, since it is affecting so many different iPads, Apple will do something? Wishful thinking...

Wait, on the iPad Mini? Were the symptoms similar to what other people have commented? I was hoping to snag one of those since the iPad Mini 4 seemed to have not many issues. Perhaps this is deeper than what we expected, maybe software?

For what it’s worth, my iPad Pro 12.9” 3rd gen stopped having these issues after the 12.2 update. I made sure never to connect back my lightly used pencil after the update as I have a feeling the problem stems from the pencil connection and I’m not going to risk it.

FYI conspiracy theory here. Part 0f me thinks that Apple deliberately creates these minor issues. So that AppleCare+ people blow one of their 2 replacements on insignificant problems like this. Limiting their repairs down to one and providing Apple with Ample stock of otherwise perfect iPad Pros which they refurbish and put back into service at minimal cost.

I am very skeptical of Apple's intentions quite often, but somehow I don't think this is it chief.

I'd more chalk it up to an even worse scenario unrelated to AC+ and using up your incidents- an engineering flaw they are well aware of by now, and may have been for some time, like flex gate and others, but refuse to do anything about it because it hasnt gotten unavoidably confrontational by the public yet.

Hi,
I used to have this problem (often but not easy to replicate/provide specific scenarios) in my iPad pro 10.5;
Even in iOS 12.2 the problem didn't go away;
But after some googling on seeing this thread(I had resigned to live with it before that), I switched on the "touch accommodations" option in settings - without changing any of the default sub-options. This seems to have fixed the problem - at least for now. It's been a few days and the problem hasn't recurred. Will report back if this recurs.

Has this already been tried on 12.9 and found not to work?

I have an 11 Pro and was experiencing this exact issue since I bought it. My Y/6, G/* keys in particular, and often the center auto fill suggestion when tapped would be unresponsive.

Over the past week or so, I’ve noticed it seems to have gone away. Other than updating the os, I have done nothing to it physically, nor changed any settings.

What I noticed on the 12.9” 2018 model is that (all?) touch problems seem related to touching the black bar beside the screen. It is not just a bezel, it is part of the (touch-) screen!

Started experiencing this after installing iOS 12.2 on an 2018 ipad Pro 12.9.
Also yesterday on an iPhone XS Max, some apps (namely Safari) wouldn't let me tap to open the address bar.

Both started occuring after installing iOS 12.2, so I'm guessing this is the cause as the iPhone has been flawless for months until now.
