Sent a claim twice, and nothing yet. Safari 6 seems pretty slow on Lion. Really thinking of just buying it, but then what will I do with the code if it does come?

EDIT: Went and bought it. Screw it. Now the download is taking forever =_=

Has anyone received their emails/code that waited 5+ hours? Just wondering if they're getting through the back log or if I messed up the request process. This whole thing should have been easier. I bought a 2012 MBP in June. What kind of validation do they need to do other than the serial number?

Doubt it. I'm sure as soon as any one of the ~100 people that posted in here gets their code, they'll post an update. Trying to forget that I'm waiting for this but not able to heh.

So here is a story about my day and how I still didn't get the activation code.

I bought a rMBP 2 weeks ago, as my previous MBP had a mother board failure due to some spilled whiskey(waste of good scotch and computer, very very sad). And just yesterday I got a replacement for my rMBP because of that image retention issue. This one seems fine right now and I hope it will not give that issue but anyways..

First, I submitted my claim for the update, around 11 AM ET. Nothing happened for a long time. So I decided to submit another claim using the previous serial number I had from the problematic rMBP. I did this around 2-3 PM but nothing is here yet.

So I decided to trick AppleCare to see whether would they be able to send me a redeem code. I called the Applecare and told them I got an email with the code but I accidentally deleted it and I don't use a trash box.

After 30 minutes of phone calls through different departments, they agree to resend me the code, which again I didn't get it in the first place. They sent the email and then asked me If I had received it, even after 5 minutes of waiting in the phone with the specialist, I didn't received anything. Even those guys were surprised. They looked for another solution and after connecting to a "senior specialist" I was informed that an email with the code may take 24 hours to be actually delivered.

It's been around 10 hours since I first put the claim, and 4 hours since I tricked the AppleCare but nothing here yet.

This whole thing seems very vague, and I feel like there could be big issue going on behind the closed doors. The whole situation just doesn't make any sense at all.

Well, at the end of the day, its just an OS update but it pisses me off to wait for a redeem code for something just worth 20 bucks. I feel like I'm at a ****** network marketing company's presentation and I'm there just because of the free pizza.

I am guessing you get your code instantly when you bought the MacBook from apple directly? I bought mine from best buy and do not have luck yet

When you called in, what serial number did you reference? I'm in the same boat as you, had a hardware replacement, so I filed two requests with two serial numbers since I wasn't sure which one to use...

I'd buy it but $21 has bought me a week's worth of groceries this year. It's $21 that I can save and I only have it in 5c pieces and to use that $21 to upgrade would involve taking my coins to the bank, depositing and then buying. I want ML but that is a great deal of effort.

Considering the fact that someone actually tried calling in, tricking Apple, and still not getting a code...they're stalling on purpose.

I bet you are right! They're probably waiting until the traffic from the paying consumers slows... That way they aren't getting complaints that the downloads aren't working or to ensure their servers don't crash as what always seems to happen when they release updates to ANY of their devices.

Of course they are. If they sent out the emails en masse right now, the stampede to the Mac App Store would crash their servers.

I think it is highly unlikely that the emails go out during waking hours.

It makes perfect sense that they would try and do something to stop the servers crashing, but thursday is half over and I won't have internet access until monday.

Understanding what is happening and the reality is a long way from dealing with it.

That said, I'm not going to be really angry if I can't upgrade today, but it would be nice. I mean, until I got my new mba I was running snow leopard, so there are still lots of 'new' things in lion that I'm getting used to.

If I was Apple I would've included a $20 gift card to each Mac purchaser starting with the date listed in the program.

You redeem in App store and have the proper funds to purchase the OSX anyway...

My 2 cents.

But yes, like everyone else I submitted my SN hours and hours ago and am still waiting. I called Apple and told them of the situation and I asked about purchasing now and getting the credit later. They said no problem, made notes in my account, and said to call when my redemption codes hits my mailbox.

I just called, and my agent said that they can't do that, and then I got the usual 72 hours spiel. I guess I'll just wait it out.

...

Just got back from Apple on this...

They replied, it may take up to 72 hours from when claim was put in as they have allot to get through... They also said they need to manual check eligibility .

Makes sense,:apple:

Of course, It may be quicker to just pay and download .....

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have allowed people to apply for the update BEFORE the release date, so they aren't trying to juggle new purchases and validations of update coupons?

Furthermore, wouldn't it have made sense to explain how the system would work before hand instead of a vague "come back to this page when its released?"

And finally, does it make sense to delay people who already bought their Macs after June 12 knowing they were going to be updates, basically, putting the people who pre-paid to the back of the line and letting all the other people jump to the head of the line ahead of them? Or is it, hey, we got your money already, screw you guys while we make a money grab with these people.

Apple OSX...insanely great, or just insane?
