I gave up guys, used $20 from the leftover $71 that I got from the Back to School GC.

Here's hoping for a refund later. :( Very disappointed with how Apple's handled this.

Every time my email badge comes up, I get a little excited. Then I open it just to find a different email and all my hopes and dreams are crushed. :(

Why its taking so long for everyone

Its taking a long time to get your codes becaues everyone requested to update to ML at the same time yesterday so the servers are backed up, I spoke with apple support with why it was taking so long and that is the reason. I requested my upgrade at 2 pm yesterday and they said it could take up to 72 hours for my request to be processed compleatly. It all depends on how early you requested the update. And plus she said there is no way to speed up the process on this so just have patience. :)

Bit annoying by Apple. They might as well of said

Mountain Lion available to those who bought a Mac before June 11 on July 25th and for those who bought a Mac on June 11 or after will be 26-28th.

I'm still waiting on my free ML code..So can I?

I was wondering if I could purchase ML and have Apple reimburse me for the charge? I was wondering if anyone else has done this?

26-28th is somewhat optimistic in my opinion. Just spoke to Apple and they told me you're at the back of the queue

Just purchase it and then file a claim and submit your Code to them once you get it... they will refund your purchase.

I wouldn't recommend this as this was the email I got back after I had asked to do the same thing:

Dear Euan,

I understand that resolving this issue at the earliest will make you feel more at ease. Apple is currently conducting an investigation about this case for our valued customers like you. Although we don't have an estimated time yet on when it will be resolved, we will make sure that a new, valid redemption code will be sent to you as soon as this matter has been taken care of.

Regarding your question about purchasing the application in the Mac App Store then request for a refund is something that we do not advise. We do not advise customers to be purchasing Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store because refunding the purchase will remove your Mountain Lion purchase from your Purchased page.

I apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused you, but thank you for your utmost understanding.

Sincerely,

Apple has been pissing me off lately with this statement.

'F' the Up-To-Date program.

I didn't receive a download link or code by the time I got home from work (and ready to install), so I just bought it. I mean it's only $20 - I spend about that much on Starbucks on any given day.

For me, I didn't see the point in sitting around and waiting for days when the price is so low. Not saying others should do the same, just chiming in...

damn you guys are all worried about an OS. is waiting a few days going to download it really going to kill you? if you want it for free that bad just torrent the GM and use it. might as well, as long as your eligible for the free upgrade. :D

Glad I didn't go this route then. Thanks for posting this.

Yes but you buy it, install it, file for a claim and then when you finally get the code you enter it and then you do have the ability to download it again. Not sure why that email from Apple would put you off!

As for me, I applied on Monday, got a code that at launch told me it isn't valid. So i have been waiting 26hrs since launch and 4 days since i got the actual code. This whole thing is a total farce. I think I am just going to buy it then claim it back as I can't be bothered waiting for something I don't even know if it will ever arrive. There has been no response to any of my support emails.

I wouldn't recommend this as this was the email I got back after I had asked to do the same thing:

Thats easy to resolve... if it removes it from the purchase page then simply enter the code they provide and its back. No big deal really. They will give you a refund for anything -- I spent about $400 on in-app purchases through Order and Chaos Online and once they had security issues Apple refunded every penny I ever spent.

I ordered my retina a month ago and it's coming today, since I really have no patience to wait "up to 72 hours" to rid myself of lion, cause lion is awful, I'm gonna download the GM, since I do own the software technically...

Just called Apple care uk and they said it can take up to 72 hours but he doesn't think it will take that long, if after the 72 hours and still no code then call them back and they can sort it then, says do not buy mountain lion from app store as this will cause further issues and most likely won't get refund as "you" are entitled to the free download.

Can't check my status as he doesn't have tools to do this but if it gave you a claim number then you are in the system.

he sounded russian.

and thats that.

pretty crazy.

No. I bought my rMBP on the Apple Online Store and it is associated with my Apple ID. I am still waiting for my code. Conclusion -> it's all checked manually.

This does not mean that everything is manual. Yes, I agree there has to be some manual work being done, They had issues and they want to make sure it does not happen again. but there system knows all the purchase information on at least the online purchases, so they have to be validated automatically, from that point is must be manual. and those who purchased in-store will have to submit a receipt and someone has to look at the receipt and approve it.

Yea getting a little old at this point. 25+ hours. You'd figure buying a new retina would get you priority for an OS upgrade.

How many uptodate applications could they possibly need to process that could cause this kind of delay? I can't imagine its anywhere near the scale of an iphone or ipad launch and they manage to get that done. Yes they do have issues on iphone launch days but the volume isn't anywhere near that high.

Still waiting and I already used $20 of my $100 app store gift card.

How do you file for claim?
