I knew that was coming! We've got to get it moved over to 13 though (which is already up and running)

@Weaselboy Can we get this thread moved to the iOS13 Forum and stickied with an updated title "Updated Apple Maps"?

Or do I need to start a new thread there so they can be merged?

UPDATE: Well that was quick...welcome to iOS13 everyone! Please remember to update the first post with any significant changes/issues. Thanks!

Yes. Showed a lot of the stuff we've been talking about. There's a street level feature. Roll out to rest of US by end of 19 and more countries next year.

...and as noted in the first post...;)

EDIT...what the? Is first post still a Wiki? Edit button missing now for me.

First post is a Wiki again! Updated with iOS13 features.
[doublepost=1559592849][/doublepost]Per Apple site...WWDC announced changes as well as few others not mentioned.

New map
Rebuilt from the ground up, the brand-new map features significantly improved and more realistic details for roads, beaches, parks, buildings, and more.

Look Around
Explore where you’re going before you get there with an immersive 3D experience that gives you a 360-degree view of a place. And enjoy smooth and seamless transitions as you navigate your way around.

Collections
Build collections of your favorite and soon-to-be-favorite locations and share them with friends and family.

Favorites
Whether it’s home, work, the gym, or your kid’s school, create a list of places you visit often for quick, one-tap navigation.

Junction View
Junction View helps drivers eliminate wrong turns and directional misses by lining them up in the correct lane before they need to turn or enter an elevated road.

Share ETA
Share your estimated time of arrival with family, friends, and coworkers. Your ETA even updates should a significant delay occur.

Customer feedback
A redesigned customer feedback experience makes submitting incorrect addresses, business locations, or operating hours that much easier.

Improved Siri guidance
More natural language enhances the navigation experience. So instead of saying “in 1,000 feet turn left,” Siri says “turn left at the next traffic light.” Improved navigation also guides you closer to your end-point destination, which is especially important for large venues.

Real-time transit
Maps offers transit schedules, arrival times, network stops, and system connections for better route planning. It even includes important real-time information like outages and cancellations.

Flight status
Up-to-the-moment information about your flight terminals, gate locations, departure times, and more is now available.

Place cards
Place cards are more helpful and easier to use, with dynamically updated information for things like Today@Apple sessions at Apple Store locations, movie theater time listings, and more.

MapKit
Updates include vector overlays that allow developers to add heat maps, weather, or buildings on top of the map, as well as point-of-interest filtering. MapKit also supports Dark Mode.

Improved CarPlay experience
CarPlay provides easier route planning, search, and navigation, as well as Junction View. Favorites and Collections features are also available in CarPlay.

A big "YES" to the Siri guidance point. This is why LIDAR, smart cameras and their new software is so key!! And I'm dying to see Look Around. I wonder if it has a different rollout schedule based on all the editing that needs to be done (face removal, license plate removal, etc.)

Second video stream support
Automakers can develop CarPlay systems that show information in a second screen, such as in a cluster or HUD.

Oh hell yes!!! Potential for Apple Maps directions and info on my HUD!! That junction view sounds interesting. Many vehicle in-dash navigation systems have something like this. Can't wait to learn more about it.

So now I wonder if we'll even be getting any more detail updates to Apple Maps prior to the iOS 13 rollout. Sounds like a lot of this is iOS 13 dependent.

That being said, I just opened Apple Maps, and it appears the default ground texture is slightly darker than it was yesterday.

Album art!! It's the little things.

Junction view confuses me a little since maybe I just don't have a bunch where I drive. I always felt the included lane guidance did a good job when I hit junctions. But I guess in places where there are multiple interchanges and ramps like I've experienced in Texas cities, it will really be helpful.

Wasn't that technically an iOS 12 feature? Are they saying it's new again because the new map only rolled out to such a small area, or did they like remake last year's new map so it's a new new map?

Hah! Well, I think the fact that it continues to be upgraded since while it was first updated with ios12, it wasn’t technically an iOS12 related update.

The other new features above do seem to be related to iOS13 though. And Maps will continue to be rebuilt from the ground up... ;)

Agreed regarding CarPlay, especially given how important Apple Maps is to CarPlay. It seemed like kind of a large oversight to have AM directions completely disappear whenever anyone wanted to queue up a song on the Music app. I'm just hoping the split screen isn't reserved only for widescreen displays and that it doesn't still pull away from the apps when you switch among them. Guess we'll have to wait and see, but it's promising that they're heading in that direction!

I'm also curious to see how ETA updates work -- even though I stopped using Waze since the new maps came out, this would fill that void a little bit more.

Apple Maps in CarPlay is SO much more usable and promising in the beta! Phone and CarPlay acts independently, so passengers can queue music up without interfering with the CarPlay display. Split screen is looking good, too! Here are some photos from the car that I just took.
First two pictures show that the phone can have Music app open while CarPlay is showing AM without pulling you away. Second two pictures show new UI for ending route while browsing Music app on phone.
Last one shows the multi-info screen on CarPlay. I didn’t grab a screenshot of the icon, but it shows you are able to enter that screen when the “home” icon in the bottom-left changes.

*EDIT: The photos may have gotten out of order when I posted. Either way, the idea still stands.

Here is the updated Favorites and Collections portion of the AM search card. Adding a mid-route destination behaves the exact same, unfortunately. Swipe up, choose a prescribed category and interrupt current route. Resume original route by tapping blue bar at the top. Going to try ETA sharing this week.

The map image shown on Apple’s iOS13 updates page is from an area yet to be updated. Guess it’s coming soon??

Abilene, Texas...first image is web page...second is current from my phone.

I'm glad we'll be able to have a set list of commonly used locations. The current method of "Apple Maps doesn't think this is the time of day you normally travel here, so we're not gonna show it!" is getting old.
