Maybe...I hope it’s more than that.

They’ve had that ability since last year though...grabbing static Map images to place on websites.

I’ll dig into more when I have time this afternoon.

You might be right. Fingers crossed. I did watch that session though and nothing leapt out at me as confirmation. Let me know if I slept for it!

Meh...I’m wrong...for now....

It does look like they are introducing more user interface, but limited to 3rd party web pages.

Seems like a small step to just turn it on though as it’s own web page now that they have MapKitJS.

You can get a sense of how it looks and feel with some of the embedded demos on the developer site. Only makes me want them to launch it even more.

From Reddit...eta setting let’s one send automatic ETA to people when a specific favorite location is selected.

i.e. Heading to wife’s work to pick her up and it will send her the ETA as soon as I select directions from favorites.

I’ve been using this one over the past 2 days, to the annoyance of family members. works great!

Does indeed look pretty nice. I can't wait. Might be one of the things that drags my wife back to iOS.

Any idea if it sends updates for major holdups etc?

Yes it does. It appears that if your ETA changes by more than 10 minutes, additional texts are sent with the revised arrival time. Definitely not a one shot deal.

They probably saw how many “on my way” shortcuts were created and figured there was a large demand for this functionality.

Niiiiice.

No major updates in New York City area yet...BUT, unless I'm losing my mind, things look a bit...sharper. The colors of the various sizes of roads have been altered on the day map (while navigating). Larger roads are a much more noticeable darker shade of gray now. Buildings during the day also appear slightly more defined.

I am noticing the same things. Green areas have more precise definition. Different classes of roads have different color (limted access, multi-lane, local, etc...). Was not wild about the local (vs overview) maps at first: they looked like someone used a Crayola Crayon to draw some of the lines. But I think either thats changed or I'm getting used to it.

Did have an issue where the ETA thing keeps sending my ETA to a family member even though it was a new route and I did not click share ETA. The fun of early betas! Will report that one. Fortunately, it stopped, or that would have been a big problem...

I've started using Apple Maps again recently and I really like the layout over Google Maps. One thing that has me scratching my head is that the voice in Maps isn't all that great. I'm using one of the Enhanced Siri voices which sound great, but for some reason it doesn't transfer over to map directions. Does this update have any improvements on the voice itself? It would be nice to be able to use the enhanced Siri voices in Maps as well.

My understanding is that we will be getting the much improved Neural Text to Speech voice "later this year", which likely means when iOS 13 goes live for the general public (or later, with 13.1 or 13.2). So, for now, I think we still have to live with the existing voices.

Ah that's okay I guess. I can live with the robotic direction voices for now. I really think Apple is ahead in the maps game with google. Google just has a slightly better search feature and voice.

Haven't played with this yet. Does it give temporary access to your location on Find My Friends as well so that they can track you, or just ETA updates?

It is just an ETA text...can someone post a pic of what the text looks like?

Pretty plain vanilla but effective

The second set of texts are automatically generated when you’re running late (I think if it’s 10 minutes beyond original ETA)

How do you get the multi-panel screens in CarPlay? Mine always shows just the one app I'm using (Maps, Podcasts, Music, etc...).

Hit the new "home" button...looks like a big screen for that view and multiple boxes for split screen view (bottom left in the pic below)

LOL. That was when it kept sending the notifications AFTER I had arrived (and left!) the unnamed [pub] location.

Just tried the multi-panel feature. Didn’t realize that you had to hit the hone button twice to bring that up. It worked! Thanks!
