It was mentioned that the new Apple Maps will eventually have a more colloquial way of speaking directions, such as "turn left at the traffic light onto ___", similar to how Google Maps uses landmarks in their directions. Perhaps that's related somehow. Reminds me a bit of maps in Japan, which show a traffic signal icon at signalised intersections. OpenStreetMap does something similar here.

There is a traffic light there and would be the next one coming up per the directions on the map.

It’s need for the cross walk and the entrance to the right to let cars out as well.

And I agree, it probably has something to do with the new Siri option as that is tied to the detail provided by the LIDAR. Traffic light placement, speed limit signs, Look Around.

I can’t believe I’ve been preaching for years about how their use of LIDAR would be this revolutionary and no one seemed to believe it...hah. I guess I can understand the skepticism based on the initial launch of Maps.

I'm quite surprised that we haven't had any "new Maps" rollouts since then. Sure, we've had some under the hood improvements, and expanded parking lot and indoor maps coverage. I was under the assumption that, since the conference last week would likely draw a lot of eyes to Apple Maps at the moment, that they would've pushed out a lot more updates to impress people.

They waited last year though too (not that it was announced in the first place)...my guess is mid-July after the public beta.

I've been noticing that Apple Maps, while navigating, has been providing more construction and lane closure alerts, as well as suggesting faster routes while driving over the past few days. While simply playing with the map on my phone, some road alerts are also providing more detailed information, such as this one.

Loading up other data layers before releasing the graphic layer?? ;)

I really want to try Apple Maps, but my area doesn’t have the new and improved map like California, Las Vegas, and Arizona. Until then, I have to continue using Google Maps because it is currently vastly superior.

Have noticed more instances of POIs appearing on screen in navigation and “regular map” mode. Still limited to “big names” Starbucks, etc... but still they are showing up more.

Another change...while navigating (at least on Apple CarPlay), the blue route line is much more pronounced now. It's thicker, and also a slightly lighter shade of blue in the night mode.

Okay, it seems a bit less noticeable now that I've uploaded it, but I swear it's different. LOL

Also, you can observe the two view differences in these photos. The top photo is on a State Route, and the view is a bit more "top down", similar to the highway view, but a lot more zoomed in.

The bottom photo is on a normal road, and the view is behind you in a way that lets you see the horizon.

I’ve noticed what you’re seeing too. I didn’t like it at first as it made it seem more child-like but it has grown on me as I’ve used it.

It looks like the Look Around feature is in some other places than California. Here is Honolulu.

I was really hoping that "Look Around" would be nationwide by the end of the year, but the above makes me think my small town might be lucky to get it in 2025.

I’m pretty sure it’s saying that simply because of the areas available in the current beta.

And 2025? Those map areas were only officially released less than a year ago and already have Look Around.

I believe we'll see more locations added prior to public release of course, so I do think it'll change. I am getting suspicious on whether or not Look Around will be available nationwide like the improved map data is supposed to be.

Here's hoping I'm wrong. :)

I don’t necessarily think you’re wrong. It may come slightly delayed from other updates or focus on major cities to start, but it will be there eventually.

2025 was an exaggeration for humor's sake.

The Apple Maps Car was in my county and neighboring counties a couple months ago, and I'll be very happy once the new Maps data comes in more so than Look Around, as there's very little details here aside from business location markers.

My thinking is actually similar to what you described above.
[doublepost=1560804951][/doublepost]Has anyone with iOS 13 installed and submitted a correction/error report on Maps for a business/location gotten it corrected?

I've reported several of them (wrong locations, wrong names, etc). I used to get things corrected within a few days usually, but I have some reported weeks ago, and still not corrected.

Some things I noticed on my commute home today with beta 2. Daytime UI has it so that the ETA/travel time/distance area is back to black instead of the light background from beta 1. Also, the split view now shows ETA, which is nice. Lastly, I feel like traffic isn’t showing properly. There were some slowdowns on my commute home that should have at least been yellow. I’ll keep an eye on that tomorrow.
