Yep...old maps.

That's what I get for being cocky. I made screenshots without paying enough attention.

The other day, the Maps 3D data of CenturyLink Field looked the same as G1Ravage, so mine has apparently been downgraded as well.

I did, as late as last night have both the West and Midwest updates on my Maps app on the Mac, and I compared some of the places this weekend.

Yeah...old maps actually look real good in the cities. You have to look for baseball fields in parks and golf courses to really see easily if it has changed.

On that topic, it's weird to me, that a 3D city like Detroit doesn't have 3D buildings in the old maps.

On my Mac, it's obviously easy to tell, as the West and Midwest are much greener than my iOS device, even before you zoom in.

Before the Northeast update went live, I was able to go into a few smaller towns and get 3D data that wasn't there on all my devices. This is the first time I experienced this in a big city.

Seems weird. Why does it roll out like that? Just curious. (Maybe the answer is in one of the 74 pages of this forum.)
If I remember correctly, it seems to be completely random. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to who gets it and who doesn't...or what devices get it and which ones don't. I'm just glad I still have the new Midwest maps on my phone, since I live here 😂. I mentioned earlier that I didn't think they would make the end of 2019 deadline that they claimed, but after seeing the Western region added, I definitely see them finishing! Now that we know the Midwest will be officially released soon (sometime within the next few weeks, if the pattern holds out), I am now anxiously waiting for Alaska and hope that one is up and running for my trip!

Also worth noting, since the Midwest maps went into testing, I sent in a lot of feedback and they have managed to address them ALL. So they are definitely working quick!

Now it gets even goofier.
XS Max (PB3) - I get local (Ventura Ca) updated maps but Detroit Mi? No buildings at all.
So I pulled Detroit up on my IPP 13.1.3. No buildings at all. not sure what Apple is doing but it is a bit ”wth?!?”

Random driving. Also, I’ve discovered that they’ve apparently based their new maps street positions at least partly off of their outdated satellite imagery. Most streets in the Manhattan grid are perfectly straight. But a number of streets in Midtown have odd curves or bumps to them. Looking at the satellite imagery with the labels turned on, you can see that they drew the road lines around road construction that was taking place years ago.

This is interesting and new. When the final direction is to turn into a parking lot, Apple Maps now announces “Turn right into the parking lot!”, where it used to just say the vague “Turn right.”

Well, I had to factory reset my XS Max and do a fresh install (instead of from backup) due to a battery drain bug I was having. My battery seems to be fixed, but I lost the Midwest Apple Maps update :(

Lost the Midwest and West updates on my phone this morning. Here's hoping official is coming soon!

Lost the Midwest and West updates on my phone this morning. Here's hoping official is coming soon!

I haven't checked my Mac, but even though we previously discussed how my phone no longer has the West update, it seems less green in the West than before.

I noticed that Justin O'Beirne has updated his site to show some before and after examples of the Midwest and West updates.

He brings up the fact that the Southeast covers up more population than the rest of the portions of the country, but the Central U.S. and Alaska takes up more of the land.

I'm hoping since Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina are the only three states in the Top 10 Most Populated States in the Country that won't be covered yet, that the Southeast will be next, possibly along with Alaska, if the upcoming EOY deadline and Apple's current testing of two sections is continued.

Hopefully, if the Southeast update is next, even if my phone doesn't get it, maybe my Mac will have it like it did the Midwest and Western states.

My map detail has not changed, but the satellite images have updated. They are maybe a year old now, where they were 4 to 5 years old. Google satellite images are still 4 to 5 years out of date. Apple leads on this front.

So I updated to iOS 13.2 yesterday. No major changes to Apple Maps that I can see so far. But when my phone is in night mode, if I switch to the satellite view (which doesn't have a night mode), switch to 3D mode, and then switch back to map view, the map briefly shows in day mode, before what looks like a nuclear explosion goes off. Everything turns into a bright white for a split second before fading off into darkness. Weird.

In CarPlay, the map seems to have iOS 12 jiggle again. But I'm noticing that in night mode, the buildings look a bit more defined than they were previously. Perhaps they've begun messing with the contrast to improve visibility.

I think that depends on location. For my neighborhood, GM is 6-12 months old while AM is 12-24 months.
I am dating this by road construction / improvements that have occurred over the last year.

Satellite for my immediate area is less than 24 months old but 3D satellite is at least 3 years old.

I think we need to remember that they are different when discussing.

Google Maps' satellite image for my location is from last October, not long after Hurricane Michael hit, as you can see the damage.

Apple's is older, but I can't pinpoint a timeframe for how old. It's probably been updated 2-3 times here over the years.

This is my go to spot to check satellite imagery near me. You can see from the Goggle image below that the new intersection is under construction. This was more than 18 months ago I think.

Apple Maps 2D satellite view is about a year old and shows the new road pattern.

But, their 3D satellite view is at least 24 months old and shows the old intersection layout.

Okay, there IS a significant change with iOS 13.2. The updated "natural Siri language" when speaking directions is finally unveiled. Sure, she had been saying stuff like "Turn left at the next stop sign" since iOS 13 came out (assuming you had the new maps), but it didn't sound natural at all. It sounded like a new recording spliced into an old recording. It sound jilted and weird.

Now, it sounds like all Siri directions are newly recorded, and it all sounds much, much better.

I’m assuming this is across the board and has nothing to do with new or old Maps areas.

Will check it out in a bit when I head out to confirm.

Well, I guess I mean that any talking about stop signs and such would be limited to a new maps region. The other speech may have changed across the board.

Oh, and the buildings in 2D map view are 3D for me.

You know, I was wondering about that. I recall asking Siri about something non-nav related the other day and it gave me a much more conversational style response.
