So if there were no exposed pins what did you have to tape exactly?

Tape that same area where static is.

Anyone know if Catalina updated the bootROM for early 2014 MBAs? Was hoping there would be an easy fix for the hibernation issue.

I successfully replaced my original 1TB SSUAX Samsung SSD with Intel 760p on rMBP 15" Late 2013 (MacBookPro11,3). Pretty happy with this Intel drive.
Now I'm on Mojave and not ready to upgrade my main system to Catalina.
Tried to install Catalina on external HDD to check if my Boot ROM will be updated, and after installing Catalina and Catalina update, Boot ROM is still the same 156.0.0.0.0. (on installing Catalina update my computer hang up a couple of times, I assume it was because of unsuccessful Boot ROM installation)
I read here what for MacBookPro11,3 it should change to 157.0.0.0.0.
Soon I'll try to make the same installation with original SSD inside.

But I don't want to keep original 1TB SSD only for updating Boot ROM with it, I prefer to sell it now, whilst it has some $ value.
Will it be ok, if I buy some 128GB Apple original SSD from 2013-2015 Macbook Air (Sandisk, Samsung and Toshiba available on ebay) to use it only for updating Boot ROM? Should I go with Samsung or any brand will be compatible for this purpose?

Finally upgraded my SSD and put a Sabrent Rocket 512gb in my MBP 13" Mid 2014. I don't have any problems with sleep at all. Closed the lid yesterday at 6pm and opened it this morning at 9am. Still had 100% battery left. Couldn't be happier about it. The only thing that bothers me is the rather fast battery drain while using the MB, it's using like 10%/30 mins whereas I was easily able to use my MB for 8-10hrs before the upgrade.

Are there any energy saving options I could make use of that would lower the battery drain while using it?

Hello everyone. I own a MacBook Pro mid 2014 and I would like to have more hard disk performances. That’s why I thought to replace the HD with the fastest option available for my computer’s model. Money and shorter battery life are not a problem. I would like to ask if someone, that has a overall overview of all the posts, could suggest me which brand and model should I buy?

15" mid 2014 here. Just did the upgrade this weekend using a Sabrent 512GB and short Santech adapter off of Amazon. Working perfectly. Doubled my read and write speeds from about 600 read/write to 1300 read/write. Battery drain seems to have increased. Right now at about 20% drain per hour but I'm almost always plugged in so Im not worrying about that right now.

One more question, which version of the rocket is supported? I see there is also a nvme 4. Is that one or the standard rocket?

if money is not a problem Intel 760P will be a better option
there are some reports in this thread about quality problem with Sabrent Rocket lately

I need help confirming what I think I know. I want you to correct me if I am wrong. Upgrading 2015 mbp 15 inch. Current speeds 1200ish.

I plan on getting a 500-1000 gb rocket vs inland. Leaning hard on rocket.

1) can the 1tb take the long adapter? or am I going to have to use short adaptor? I am under impression I can Use long adaptor

2)with both ssd should I expect speeds of 2500 r/w? As it is PCIe 3 controller. (My sisters 2013 mba maxes at 1200ish)

Hello everyone,

Juste installed a Sabrent Rocket 2 TB in my Late 2013 Pro 15’. I did the BootROM patch using EFI Cable & CH341a.

I used the Sintech long black adapter and I’m a bit confused. As you can see, the Sabrent seems to be really high and I’m worried about it being stucked to the MacBook lid. Also, the more I screw (using the Philips screw given by Sintech as is it too thick to use the Apple one) the more the Sintech adapter bends. So I didn’t screw it very well but at least it doesn’t bend too much.

Do you think I should cut out the Sintech Adapter to have a less thicker part to screw ?

Thanks a lot for helping me

try to reseat everything. I had my sisters buckle like that on the mba. It didn’t turn on. so took it out and reconnected it, it sat better, and it works fine after doing so. If that doesn’t work hopefully someone smarter can give advise

Everything working fine, recognized as a 4x lines PCIe 2.0 -> I'm writing this from my Macbook right now. But I'm a bit worried about overheating because heat won't dissipate or juste gonna heat the aluminium lid.

I hope the photos are exaggerating that bend but I would be concerned. I saw a post here somewhere where someone made a small plastic washer out of a pen casing and cut it just tall enough to level out the board. Personally I would just get the short adapter and redo it. Mine with the short adapter sits perfectly level.

Nope, actually I had trouble to take pictures showing it : it's more visible in real life. I think before buying the short one (anyone got the link from sintech website ?) I'll try to make my own from the long but cutting it and filing it after.

I’m using the one from the link on page 1 via Amazon. No issues whatsoever, no tape or anything.

I just cut it using a small hacksaw, and it's really fine now. I've used a small foam that was at the end of the long adapter and put it on the screw support to put it real straight :) I should have bought the short one from the beginning ;) So do not buy long one if you're planning to put the Sabrent Rocket 2 TB.

I'm getting pretty good performances, with good speeds and even a faster boot. But power consumption seems to be higher, will take a few days to make a final opinion about it, as first thing I've done was speed test. I hope no problem with deep sleep.

Yeah I dunno dude that Sabrent 2 TB looks like it is bent in the picture. Can you return it?

If it is just cosmetic maybe it is ok but ( well I have not looked at a ton of NVME ssd ) that looks funky to me.

Yeah it was bend because of the screwing with the long Sintech adapter, now that I've repaired it it's alright, not bend at all. I couldn't have returned it anyways because I was having it for two months (it took me a while to find time to do backup and to do the BootROM patch).

Moreover it's normal that the Sabrent sticker looks weird as it is glue to the chips and not a hard cover. But the card itself looks fine, and after my repair it's even better with no bending at all ^^ (Apple OEM & Samsung SSDs looks way better in hand imo)

Hi thank you for the tip. Could someone confirm that also the 760P can reach something around 1200/1300 in r/w?

I can
This is results from MBP 15" Late 2013, 2TB Intel 760P installed with short Sintech adaptor (revision B)

Hi, How's your battery life with the 760p?
Power consumption of Intel 760, according to iStats Menu, is around 0.2A (when it does not perform writing tasks)
Original Apple 1TB SSD took around 0.12A in same conditions
If I close the lid with 100% of battery, after 6-7 hours of sleep it's still 100%
(Power spikes on the screenshot are the times when I used Blackmagic Speed Test app)
BTW, I bought my 2TB Intel 760P at Amazon for $289 and with this price, it looks like a better option than Sabrent
