Hi friends! Need a little help. I have MBP late 2013 (A1398). Bought nvme AData SX8200 Pro 2tb. Install Mojave, all works fine..but i need also Windows 7. I know that Windows 7 doesn`t have nvme drivers. How to fix this problem? I`ve installed windows 7 by winclone. So after this i can add drivers to Windows/inf ..but what drivers i need to add? Maybe someone have that experience. After all i have message "The firmware refused to boot from selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple`s firmware for legacy OS booting."
I hope its possible to install windows 7 to my mbp. Help please! ThX!
I would consider Parallels to run Windows 7.

Hello! New to the site so please point me to a Wiki if one exists.

Trying to upgrade a dead Samsung 128GB SSD on the cheap in a friends 2017 Macbook air 13. Model A1466 Emc3178. The laptop suffered liquid damage and even after cleaning with alcohol, the SSD does not show in disk utility. I am not sure what version of OS was installed before it got liquid damage.

I have a few questions.

1) Will this laptop need a flashed firmware in order to fully support sleep with a third party SSD? If so, what tools do I need to do this?

2) Which adapter type is recommended?

or

?

3) Which SSD models are verified to work best with this model?

Edit: Found the Wiki on page 1 of this thread... reading through and will update in a bit with any remaining questions...

Thanks!

hi guys!
I just upgrade my 13" 2015 rmp from 128gb to 512gb using a Sabrent Rocket and the sintech adaptor (the long one).
The problem is that performance are the same as the stock SSD, 550-600mb/s read and around 1300mb/s write.
I installed Mojave( I've never installed Catalina on this mb) and I did the PRAM/SMC reset, am I missing somehting?

I've try to install custom windows with usb 3.0 & nvme drivers inside...but after installing and rebooting - always black screen :( with windows 10 all is good. Strange things. With native ssd there are no problems with windows 7 at all
You are using Bootcamp to create the Win7 USB installation? I saw that other people had issues with Win7 but I'm not sure how they fixed it.

Is this a fresh installation of Mojave or from a backup?

The lane width is x4 in system report?

Could the OS be in the process of indexing?

Yes fresh install, x4(speed 5GT/s) and the indexing is disabled, I mean, I disabled spotlight through the terminal, I can clearly see from the activity monitor that the system is not doing anything in the background.
Filesystem is APFS, bootrom 186.0.0.0.0

try this, reboot your MBP, run blackmagic disk speed test again choose 1GB test file, sometimes cache filled up so quickly

No. I`ve made bootable usb by Rufus (on Windows). Bootcamp in Mojave denied Windows 7. Don`t understand why i have black screen after install and reboot. No problems with native ssd, but with new nvme black screen. If problem was in nvme driver, i think it doesn`t recognise my nvme during install

Bootcamp creates an efi install partition with the necessary drivers.

Bootcamp doesn't support Windows 7 on Mojave as far as I know.

Everything looks good. Have you tried reinstalling the drive and adapter? It's it possible that kapton tape is needed to further isolate the adapter's connectors from the logic board?

This is actually getting my write speed up to 1000mb/s but only on the first run, a second after is already down to 600.
The SSD is really cool at 28°

I know it is nice to see high numbers but if the speed is as good as it was before the upgrade or even a bit faster, is be happy.

I put low-end nvme drives into early 2015 13" Airs. The speeds were a bit better than the original drives with more storage space so people were happy to save a bundle, get more space, and sacrifice some battery life.

Well, what i have for now:
1)I`ve installed original iso Windows 7 SP1 by Winclone (extract install.wim). This method works like a charm on native apple ssd.
2)When i try to start boot by Clover in Legacy - "The firmware refused to boot from selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple`s firmware for legacy OS booting."
3)I`ve found NVME Intel drivers and just copy them to Windows/inf & Windows/System32/Drivers folders
4)For now when i try to start boot by Clover in Legacy - i have just black screen and nothing
5)Windows 10 works fine without problems

So one question..what drivers has Win10 thats it works with my nvme Adata without problems??

Windows 10 has native support for NVME drivers so no slipstreaming is required.

Not sure that copying the nvme drivers to the Drivers folder is enough to have Win7 load the drivers during the boot process so I've always used the slipstream method.

Win7 may not have the necessary UEFI support which results in the black screen? I don't know because I've never tried to run Win7 on a MacBook.

Hi there
I Have a Corsair MP510 240GB on my MBP 15 2014 working great nut now need to upgrade the disk size.

2015 11” macbook air with sabrent 1tb , starts random kernel panic, nvme related after 1 year.
it was working rock solid but nowadays it randomly freeze and restarts. It seems that the frequency is increasing.
Does anyone else had this kind of issue over time? Are there any solutions ?

Hello, I upgraded my MacBook Pro 2014 128gb SSD with Sabranet Rocket 1TB SSD. Everything is ok, except wifi. Wifi works with only a few devices. For example, it work with one TP Link Router and does not with other (same house, same network).
Also it can connect to my iPhone hotspot. Today I tried wit friends iPhone and it also does not work.

I already did factory reset and NVRAM reset. Maybe someone can help me? I really need stable wifi...
Sincere thanks!

I have a friend who has been using a 256 GB Intel 600p for almost 2 years with no issues in an early 2015 13" Air running Catalina.

Have you tried re-installing the drive?

The WiFi problem happened as soon as you installed the Sabrent?

WiFi problem goes away if you install the original Apple drive?

How is the battery health?

cycles of battery : 648
Condition: ok
(mA): 0
(mV): 12932
remain charge (mAh): 5921
The battery looks good.

Try this: disconnect the battery, connect the charger, don't touch the keyboard and see if the MacBook boot up on its own. If it boots, let it boot to the desktop, shutdown the MacBook. After it shuts down, try booting by pressing the power button.

I've just read that Catalina is causing Macbook's 16in (the new ones) to reboot. It was identified as a bug. Maybe something related to that bug is happening with your computer (I know it is a 2015 machine, but...).

Have you tried to downgrade to the version before the boot issues?
