well the only thing that I did was enable trim and I know I did because it said it was disable before I enable it and since then I have try two different ssd ,adapter and has reformat and redownload update to catalina and it still doesn't want to read the new ssd since than. I am lost.
Trim should not affect the installation of the OS.

Is the drive detected in Catalina's disk utility? If not, it probably isn't the result of enabling trim.

Ok, if trim have no impact what else could I do, I have been trying to get it to work since than and I been using two different ssds and adapters with no luck

Are you able to enter disk utility from your USB installer? Do you see any drives at all?

Is the drive seen by terminal?

Tried installing and booting the OS off an external drive?

Tried with an original Apple SSD?

Will try that tomorrow
Works with the original ssd (120gb) fine

Is there any recommendations of ssd that will 100% work because I been trying with WD blue(except that one time before trim) and black with no luck. The adapters I bought using both of the link posted here.

OSX 10.13.6, bootrom 162.0.0.0

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my computer to a 2TB drive and was wondering what the best NVMe drive is for my specific computer model (specified above)? Obviously, my goal is increased drive performance and storage space while also not affecting battery life to significantly. I plan to do a clean install.

Just wondering if there's updated recommendations. Thanks!

I did that why I bought those two, but I guess I may need to try another on the list.
When I installed my Adata SSD into my 2013 MBP it only showed up when I was in the MacOS installer as it had to be initialized. I tried in an external caddy via USB first and it didn't show up at all, just like you're saying. Only when booting from a MacOS installer via usb, with the SSD installed inside my mac, did the new SSD show up.

Hey someone mind helping me? I have a late 2013 13' Macbook Pro with the latest version of catalina installed. Now I have my original 256gb ssd that came with the laptop and my new 1tb adata sx8200 pro which both work. Only reason im upgrading is because of the space. When I try and install Windows 10 ver 2004 it installs then restarts and when it gets to the windows logo it spins for a second trying to load then I get a blue screen telling me its crashed. Now I even tried installing the version of windows thats working on my old factory ssd and it does the same exact thing. I am currently trying a second adapter (black sintech small) to see if that one will work any better.(first one was a small green one) So I guess my question is has anyone successfully installed windows on this macbook with catalina?

Well just tried it and this one let me get further. I got to the getting started and all that then when it restarted and came back up to the windows logo it circled like it was loading then flickered for like 2 secs then back to the blue screen. Such a weird issue for what should be a simple replacement

Just installed the Big Sur beta today... was kind of hoping it would have brought about a boot rom update (I'm on MBP 11,1 Boot ROM 162) that would address the hibernation issues. Optimistic I know, but we can dream!

Hello,

I need to upgrade from 128GB SSD A1502 to at least 512GB to 1TB. Please advise the best SSD drive to do it? And does it possible for me to do my own swap replacement SSD with no experience in electrical, only plug play memory replacement in Macbook 2008.

I recommend the Sabrent Rocket Pro/SiliconPower/Seagate Barracuda 510 (anything based on Phison E12). Physical installation is not much different than upgrading RAM.

Make sure your OS is updated and BootRom is most recent (196.0.0) before doing the upgrade and it should be fairly simple.

Make a bootable Catalina SD/USB stick, then you can use a cloning software or restore from a TimeMachine backup to restore your data to the new drive.

I've been using Power Silicon 1TB and 512MB in my MacBook Pro mid 2014 and MacBook Air early 2015 without any issues.

Hi,

I've been thinking about upgrading my mid 2015 15" macbook pro 2,2ghz (integrated graphics) with a new ssd. I think I'm going to get a 1tb ssd. I would like to hear from you if what would be suggested ssd model as of 2020. In the original post sx8200 is mentioned also Sabrant Rocket. As far as I read Samsung evo 970 plus is also very popular but that might draw too much power? Related to this, previosly I have updated my old macbook pro 2012 by getting an external ssd closure. Is it possible to do that same for the NVME m.2 ssd? Meaning that I would plug the new ssd insde the enclosure to my mac and clone the whole original ssd to the new one and then just swap them. Also I'm running 10.14.6 and I would not like to update to 10.15 thats why I would prefer cloning the original SSD.

I found for example this enclosure:https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07TSBR114/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1DO4Y0KEIINI5&th=1

For the SSDs I could get either sx8200 159e, Sabrant rocket would be a bit cheaper 139e but currently the 1tb is not delivered to where I live. However there is also a cheper version Sabran Rocket Q for 119e. What the difference between the Q model and the regural? 970 Evo Plus would be 176e but is there any benefit on upgrading to it except a bit faster theoretical speeds?

Rocket Q
Regular Rocket

Yes, you can use a USB 3.0 to NVMe enclosure or adapter. I use this one. Plug in your new SSD+adapter into the USB port of your MBP and then get Carbon Copy Cloner and clone your existing SSD to the new one. There are YT video on how to do it. Once the clone is complete, you can swap the SSD's.

I would stick with SSD's that are known to work. It just isn't worth the trouble of returning, etc., if there are issues. I tried an unsupported but high performance SSD and while it worked, it was much slower than it should have been. I wound up using a Sabrent Rocket 2TB in my 2015 MBP 15".

I'm not sure if the Rocket Q series works or not. The difference is that the Rocket Q uses QLC instead of TLC. QLC SSD's are cheaper and just fine for most people but are slower and do not have the endurance of the TLC versions.

I am going to purchase and test a new SSD, the Hynix P31 Gold NVMe . The reviews have been fantastic with super-fast performance (really some of the fastest of the PCIe 3.0 drives) and low power consumption. I'll report back if i have good results in my MBP. REVIEW

Update:forgot to mention that I also I try using the WD blue ssd and it work the first time but than i enable trim and since than it doesn't work. I try to disable trim but have no luck with that. Is there anything else that I can do?

TRIM always automatically enabled on NVME drive. Dont enable it manually from terminal.

I have a mid-2015 15" MBP, so I hoped for a quick and painless upgrade. Bought a 2TB ADATA SX8200 Pro, and a generic adapter (photos included). I'm on latest Catalina (10.15.6), with the OEM SSD everything wors fine. But I can't get the ADATA with adapter to be recognized. Not in Disk Utility, not in Terminal, and System Report says that "This computer doesn’t contain any NVMExpress devices.". Tried with a cloned boot disk from an external drive, from a Catalina USB install stick, and from Internet Recovery - no change. Also tried Kapton tape on the pins and on the bottom of the adapter, as well as a rubber pad - still nothing. I sincerely hope this is just a bad adapter, ordered the original Sintech from Amazon, but it'll take at least two more weeks to get here. Is it likely that the SSD itself is bad (ordered an external NVMe USB enclosure to check, as I have no access to a computer with a M.2 NVMe slot)? Could the bad adapter fry the SSD?

I still can't install windows 10 (bootcamp)
during the installation of windows 10
it told me: the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error ....

I also used cheap no-name adapters from eBay and they worked perfectly in an early 2015 13" Air and a 2014 13" Air.

The adapters I used look very similar.

The SSD could be bad but you won't know until you try another NVMe drive or adapter.
