"Sleep Wake Issue" clearly written. Your mac is 2013 model which have broken sleep. So you should disable any kind of sleep from terminal.

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 standby 0 autopoweroff 0 darkwakes 0 tcpkeepalive 0
This is the only fix right. and i wont be able to use sleep/wake up right?
and Why is this issue occurring now? im using latest sintech long adapter, isnt this issue fixed with the sintech long adapter?

thank you.

Late 2013 MacBook Pro 15: Bottom version bumped in the latest Big Sur Developer Beta 11.0.1 from 162.0.0.0 to 424.0.0.0.0. Wondering if this one has the NVMe drivers updated.
There is a bunch of software I use in Catalina that still do not have a working version in Big Sur, therefore, unfortunately, I cannot test it.
If I update and then need to roll back, maybe, the new BootRom can bring unforeseen bugs to Catalina.

yes it is. And no, unfortunately this issue will never be fixed by anyone. You can read my old posts not so far from this one. I have the same MBP then you. If you do the trick with terminal you will be forever fine :)

Thank you for your reply.

1) After disabling all the sleep/hibernation etc in terminal do i have to do the nvmefix aswell?
2) what is a nvmefix and what does it do to the mac? whats the function of it?

Has anyone problems on Late 2013 MacBook Pro 15 and Samsung 970 Evo during boot time? From the start sound to the Apple Logo i have to wait almost 20-30 seconds. I've already reset PRAM but with no success

Looks like my mid 2014 doesn't have any hibernate issues with new boot rom
Interestingly it is first time my MBP has its ROM upgraded without having the original Apple SSD installed. There are certainly changes, when it is in sleep and I connect the MagSafe charger, a big battery is shown on the display. Start-up still see my NVME as external drive, so I am not sure if the NVME driver is a better one. But I will test hibernation.

Same! I just installed Big Sur 11.0.1 to an external drive, Bootrom updated to 422 (2015 MBP 13")

You havent set your startup disk. Go to system preferences - startup disk, unlock the padlock, choose the disk, and hit "Restart"

I can confirm that 424.0.0.0 FIXED the hibernation issue for my MacBook Pro Mid 2014.

I'm back in Catalina and there are no issues with the new bootrom+Catalina so far.

This is what I used to confirm:

$ sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25
$ sudo pmset -a standby 1
$ sudo pmset -a standbydelayhigh 300
$ sudo pmset -a standbydelaylow 300
$ sudo pmset -a autopoweroffdelay 300

Turned off Bluetooth + Network (wifi) + unplugged from the power source and closed the lid. More than 12 hours later (this morning) I turned it on and the battery was at 100%. I was able to login back in without the nasty hibernation issue.

That's splendid news. Now we only need to wait more confirmation from other users.

I kinda hope someone like dosdude can update their firmware upgrade installer, so that people doesnt have to upgrade to big sur just to bump up their firmware.

This is what I did to get the BootRom updated:
I cloned my internal NVMe to an external (USB) drive using CCC, boot in the external drive, joined apple's public beta, installed Big Sur in the external drive, booted back to Catalina (internal NVMe) to test hibernation.

You havent set your startup disk. Go to system preferences - startup disk, unlock the padlock, choose the disk, and hit "Restart"
So here are the booting times with fresh install of Catalina:
  • Stock Apple SSD 256GB (after PRAM reset) -> Swicth on to Apple logo almost the same time as the booting sound, 5-10 seconds to fully boot to login menu.
  • Samsung 970 EVO 1TB (after PRAM reset) -> Swicth on to Apple logo at least 20-30 seconds after the booting sound (the screen stays black), then another 5 seconds to fully boot to login menu.
I've already selected the startup disk as the 970 EVO but loading times are still the same, maybe a placebo effect of few seconds faster.

Maybe could be a problem with ssd the adapter? I'm using one bought on Aliexpress (now I'm waiting for the Sintech one) and I covered the connector with Kapton Tape.
Also I'm thinking about that because in System Info under the NVME Express device tree, instead of "Apple SSD Controller" I got "Generic SSD Controller"
Speed test disk are fine compared to other online (around 1300MB/s in write mode and 1500MB/s in read mode). No other issues related to hybernation and sleep.

I let my MBP 13 mid 2014 drain its batteries until it went into hibernation and closed the lid, and let it stay overnight. And after opening the lid, it was straight into where I left off, no errors or reboots. It seem like it is working properly now! (My PM settings are the stock one from Big Sur install).

Generic SSD is normal. On Mojave and Catalina it will say that doesnt natter what SSD or adapter you use (except the original apple ssd of course) and that's not a problem.

as for boot delay, 20-30 seconds is indeed way too long, consider that you already set your startup disk. And since you are saying that apple appear after black screen, i assume you are not turning file vault either (which is good)

apart from adapter faulty, and probably your samsung firmware not playing nice, i cant think any other cause,

2013-2014 will always have that slight delay on boot, but not 30 seconds long, 5 to 10 is the longest i ever found on that model.

did you tried repair disk from recovery ?

How is your booting time ? Do you still face those well known slight black screen delay upon boot on your 2014 model ?

File Vault was disabled for me, samsung NVME drivers are updated to latest Firmware just checked.

Repair Disk returned me no error.

I just saw few comments up here talking about the BootROM of Big Sur so i decided to update Catalina to Big Sure just to have the latest BootROM (424.0.0.0.0) and then reinstall Catalina on 970 EVO and well... it fixed all my boot issues and now it boots with the same speed as the original SSD.

Now I have to investigate if i have to change hibernation or sleep settings via Terminal because I've never really tested if anything works good. Anyway the problem seems to be solved.

Thank you

For anyone who are planning to make an updgrade

SX8200 pro is no longer as appealing as before, https://www.tomshardware.com/news/adata-xpg-sx8200-pro-controller-change

Adata do their sh*t again. Just like how they change between realtek and SMI on SX6000 series
Hey otosan! So how can I tell what I actually got? I got mine back in September. Under System Report-NVMExpress it shows Generic SSD Controller, then the ADATA SX8200PNP under that... I applied the heat sink that comes with it so I can't really take that off to see the top side of chips.. I'm not having any issues with this 2tb. Seems to work fine. Is there any way to know? I've got twice the speed of the original Apple 512gb I put in here after I bought this used.

Well there is a command line tools on windows to check exact controller. But i dont know whether something similar on macOS exist. The easiest way is indeed looking at the actual chip directly.

2TB is not really a fast moving model, so it mught still using component from old batch (which a good case here) , but cant really sure as well,

as far as i can tell, adata been using different nand on SX8200 pro (UNIC² instead of IMFT one) even back in 2019. But i never actually get a hold of one with SM2262G.

Thats great to hear. This really bring hope for all NVME users who planned to upgrade to Big Sur in the future. Seems like it's firmware is doing great job for NVME drives

I use FileVault so it takes some time, but it is faster than my MacMini 2018; after the chime the screen is black for a few seconds, and then the Apple logo for a few seconds, then the login window.

I'm testing my 2015 model with the new firmware to see if it helps improve the overnight battery drain of 20-30% on these models...will know in a couple days.
