All iphones bought from Apple are unlocked except for the ATT one paid for on monthly payment. All iphones sold from carriers are locked by default.

YESSSSSS - Preorder can't come soon enough. I'll try to click and collect as soon as the store opens at 8am.
The phones will still be unlocked (able to freely transfer between carriers as you please), but they still have to be activated with the phone number/account they were originally set up with
If you do a Apple store pick up. Can you still track it with UPS tracking number? Is the UPS tracking number provided when it’s shipped from China?
From my understanding, the only carrier that doesn’t lock any of the phones (Android, Apple, etc) they sell is Verizon. But yeah all phones on the iUP are unlocked by default
I don’t think so. I think it’s just a batch shipment that gets delivered to the Apple Store with no individual tracking numbers
They're locked out of the box for 60 days( of service) now is what I last heard.

Wish I knew. I remember that at one time the phones were unlocked automatically if you bought from Apple, but that was also before the internals became basically the same across the carriers. Then it was Verizon only who was unlocked because everyone was buying Verizon versions when the unlocked Apple phones were delayed. Last year or year before, even Verizon stated the phone was locked for the first 60 days then they would unlock it. Only buying Unlocked from Apple now is supposed to be unlocked from Day 1.
Maybe someone else has a better idea. I haven’t kept up this past year on that.
I swear sometimes I think we’re moving backwards in time lol. It’s 2021 give people freedom to do what they want with their devices 😔
No. The store pickups will be a part of whatever the store’s inventory will be. All you’ll know is when you’re charged and when the device is ready for pickup.
I concur 💯. %. I know not iPhone related, but the phone I'm currently using is a paid in full T-Mobile Samsung S21 Ultra bought from Best Buy. TMobile said they can't unlock it. As it's not in their system. Lol. Even though it's got a TMobile model number and came with a TMobile sim card. I've already contact the FCC.
I guess tonight we'll find out who stays up and who doesn't . 🤣

You’ll get updated via the apple store app saying we’ll notify you when your item is ready for pickup, it’ll change from processing to preparing then ready for pickup.

a question i have is, if i add money to my apple balance through itunes, can i use that balance towards iphone purchase tomorrow ?
Do we choose pickup/shipping when the preorders go live? I don’t recall seeing an option when doing the preapproval but I could have missed it ??
In the past you can’t track it but also, in the past, “your” phone comes with a serial number assigned only to you. The stores get some for walk in but yours did not coming from that stock. I tried one year when I had store pickup. I had to wait for mine by serial number. Past experience only.. things change. But I’m pretty sure phones are assigned specifically
