I can't think of anything you can do about the drivers. However, 10.9.2 was just released as beta, so hopefully there will be an update in that.

Personally I've been avoiding Mavericks because of all the reported problems with USB, sleep, and Nvidia drivers. I am not one to jump into a new OS immediately anyway; I usually wait at least 6 months.

6 months !
On my main system I am still on 10.6.8 !!! :D

Have 10.8.5 on my Macbook and that seems "mostly ok" but 10.6.x was
Solid as a rock.

M - mr trailing edge !!

My Inateck KT4004 Mac Pro card has landed this morning, will post my thoughts when I get a chance to swap it with the powered Inateck.

Do let me know! I declined one for review, as I'm selling my current MP, but I'll be interested to see how it performs compared to the previous model.

SL is great - but for extra goodies like USB 3.0 and Nvidia GPU's even some of Snow Leopard die hard FCP7 users on the towers have upgraded to ML. A lot with MBP's and iMac's are happy not moving cos they don't need to :D

Yup, I have reached the point where I HAVE to go ML, I even have software
purchased that I can't install .... bummer but I'm sure it will all be fine :)

I'm expecting it to be identical apart from it not going Pete Tong when you plug more than two usb powered devices in. Four external 2.5 self powered spinning disk enclosures should be a good enough stress test!

I've got 3 plugged in right now and it's solid. I'll add another after while and see what it does. Note the model number (in my sig) of my Inateck card differs from yours, but it's a Mac card.

I'm sure that's the old powered model number - in fact I have a spare powered card here for stock and it is that part number. Green and white box, but the new Mac Pro card is all black box and model kt4004.

Mine is in the black box ...
Mine says KT4004 on box label, but says nothing about OS X on the label ...

The board has "KTU3FR-4PA REV:B2" silkscreened on the front under the inatech name.
There is no power socket, nor pads/traces for one.

It looks like the photo on the Amazon web site for the MAC version.

I have not yet had time to swap it out for the CalDigit card ... I am verifying that my RAID-5 box and disk dock have no issues connected to USB 3.0 rather than eSATA as I had them on the CalDigit. I do note the "disconnect" error message after sleep with USB 3.0 and the RAID-5 box. I am also noticing some Bluetooth mouse issues with the long USB 3.0 cable ... need to get a better shielded long cable for this I guess.

Snap - just checked the PCB has identical markings to yours and no power connection.

Actually, this is a new MP card too that came in the all black box. All the documentation correctly refers to this card. Revision B is a new model. This card has been available for less than a month. It seems there are 2 different model numbers for the same card.

I realised the PCB part number doesn't match the box and advertising after reading hfg's post and checking my card. The slightly different number on the card unlike changing it totally on the PCB is probably for type approval CE related reasons, they don't have to submit a totally fresh application for a modified revision of card.

based on the drives waking up not being a problem is gonna make me buy the new card

If you are buying the Inateck card, the plate is flush and needs no modifications. If you are talking about the Orico card, you can flatten out the detented flange easily with a pair of pliers and 5-10 Sec. of your time. If you revisit post #1, it's all explained there. In fact, post #1 is about the best buyer's guide you'll find for USB 3.0 on a Mac Pro.

The wake issue is more of an OSX problem, rather than the card. Since you mentioned it, I'll let you know that my system doesn't have that problem.

It doesn't throw up the "your drives were ejected" message when you wake from sleep with attached storage devices? Which OS version?

Correct, Mavericks 10.9.1

The reason is because the driver for the RocketU's RAID function overrides this. I'm 99% sure if I remove the RocketU and it's driver that it would eject just like everyone else's cards does. It does spin the drives down, but apparently there is a deeper mode of sleep. HighPoint Tech Support told me their driver specifically affects the eject feature to prevent problems with RAID drives.

There is a footnote about that in the Inateck review.

I got the older powered Inateck card (KTU3FR-4P REV:3C, green box) last month from Amazon.de - the unpowered version was not listed back then. I got the "Mac Pro" version which I understand is just a regular 4 port powered card with a cable to power it from a HDD connector.

Trouble is, my MP is full of disks, with nor spare connector. An attempt to power the card from the ODD cage, with an assortment of Y cables and extensions did not work: the Mac Pro would not even boot

I unfortunately let the deadline pass and I can't return it, but I'm still inclined to get the new unpowered model and not bother messing with SATA power cables: I don't enjoy the stress of non-booting machines that much ;)

What OS X are you running?

Mavericks 10.9.1

Just checking to make sure you'd got the drivers installed (they're in 10.9.1 as std).

I'm running two of those cards powered from the Optical drive molex, via a molex splitter into a 2ft (60cm) molex extension into a molex > twin SATA power splitter into the card (the molex > twin SATA splitter came with the card)

Being as the card installation is nearly foolproof, I suspect a physical fault with either your card, or the cabling - I don't suppose that you can check the same colour of wire is connected all the way through your molex extension? The yellow cable at the splitter is connected to the yellow cable in the extension, and so on for the other three cables.
